He is an appellate lawyer so probably not there to replace anyone. Appellate lawyers are all brains. They are usually not involved in trial court as it's a different set of skills. That's why I was surprised to see him even though he is accomplished as an appellate lawyer. We will see what they do.

The judge said he can find probable cause if there is not a body found like this case. There is a reasonable belief if the defendant MAY have committed the crime. Judge Patrick Murphy said he does see probable cause for First-degree murder & tampering with a deceased human body.

Can either side appeal the decision(s) made by the judge today?

No, there's no appealing the Judge's decision to be bound over for trial.

The next decision will be after the state presents its case and the defense argues that the state did not prove their case beyond reasonable doubt and requests the case dismissed.

If the Judge agrees that the state did not meet its burden then the case is dismissed and BM can never be re-tried for this crime. If Judge believes the state met its burden then the case goes to the jurors to deliberate and come back with a verdict.
