Found Deceased CO - Suzanne Morphew, 49, did not return from bike ride, Chaffee County, 10 May 2020

But let's say her bike was discovered fairly close to her home. Maybe thrown into a ravine to hide it. You can see on the map I linked the amount of dirt road she could have traveled that isn't on the beaten path. If this was a crime of opportunity, meaning someone came across her and did a bump and grab. Chances are high no one was around to witness it. I find that prospect absolutely terrifying.

Not intentionally sleuthing hubby but, hypothetically, in some situations where a single source of income doesn't explain million dollar home(s) and access to large amounts of cash for rewards, it's entirely possible someone's name is on multiple different businesses, and therefore there are multiple revenue streams. Hypothetically, of course.

As for the lonely Mothers Day. I too was alone. I have a daughter who is a nurse working out of state and couldn't come home, my college student son was called back to work ( golf course club) as they just reopened and my husband, a pharmacist had to work as well. I received flowers the day before due to scheduling and that evening 3 of us worked on a puzzle etc. I spent my day doing my usual cleaning/laundry/websleuthing lol. I did however talk to my mother, sent/received texts to my siblings etc. I'm just saying there could be a well explained reason why she was alone. Don't worry my friends, we are celebrating my birthday (4/28) and Mothers Day this Saturday. lol. With all of that said, I am wondering if they found anything to tighten the timeline on her cell/social media/computer etc. I'm sure she had to have chatted with someone. IMO

Is anyone else a little uncomfortable with posting about a family's financial situation and tax status? I can understand wanting to sleuth and investigate that angle, and I'm sure LE is doing the same, but if this incident has nothing to do with how they spend their money, it might be seen as just "gossip" and all of that info will still be here on this thread.

I get that it's all "public" information, and "the info is out there," but still. . .

Just spoke with the Chaffee County Sheriff, and he said they are out searching again today, including additional area nearby. I asked if they were using drones and dogs again, to which he said they are using "everything we can use." No further updates.

All caught up. So the bike was found. I remember a local poster (sorry, don't remember the name) who had said that, but then had to edit since it wasn't on MSM yet.
If massive searches were carried out, I expect she would have been found if injured.
The initial $100K reward makes sense now.
Like others, I fear this was an abduction...either opportunistic or targeted.

I also have that Suzanne Eaton vibe I mentioned before.
But at the same time I'm very concerned about the money aspect.

The Sierra Joughin case out of Indiana is another one where the killer bumped her bike and then grabbed/murdered her. She was extremely close to home when it happened, too. Tragic case. SJ has a case thread here on WS:

So these types of abductions do happen.

They just don't happen as frequently as some other scenarios that are also possible in this case.

If Suzanne's bike had damage that indicated it was hit by a car, wouldn't LE release that info? I just don't see the action of LE matching a hit-and-run investigation. My opinion.

Very true. My Hinky Meter is acting more like a metronome - it's going back and forth, between Stranger Foul Play and Closer to Home. JMO and not saying anyone should be considered a suspect, of course.

Man, reading some of these comments makes me wonder if I'm a terrible person for not spending every moment of every Mother's Day at home with my mom...

Do we even know that she was alone all day? Maybe they had spent the morning with her. Maybe they all celebrated on Saturday instead of Sunday. Maybe they don't like all the commercialism around Mother's Day so the day just isn't a big deal to them even though they love their mom.

I also don't think it's weird at all that Sheriff's Office isn't getting into details about how much contact she had with family that day, and I don't assume that their silence on it means that they didn't visit or even call her. I'd actually be surprised if they did talk about that stuff at this point.

I feel like some are being a little prejudgmental towards the family here and flirting with blaming them.

Edit: also the fact that he's a firefighter makes the Mother's Day thing seem even less weird to me. One of the first things fire families get used to is missing holidays or celebrating them on other days. I can't even remember the last actual Thanksgiving I spent with my husband. Everything about holidays changes.

IIRC, the piece of garbage that took Sierra away actually did the same thing to another woman years prior, and she lived to tell about it.

I don't think this particular MO is all that uncommon since most of us can think of at least 1 case where someone did this.
(I think the accidental vehicle/bicycle crash/cover up theory is far more uncommon).

LE's actions here don't line up with a hit-and-run.

The FBI ain't interested in investigating hit-and-run accidents.

Abduction, though? Yep.

I still don't see abduction as the likeliest scenario here, either.

Campgrounds were closed but there's ample opportunities for dispersed/undeveloped camping in the area. It still would be easy to go camping.

I saw a ton of people camping this weekend. Even more than I'm used to seeing on a typical Spring holiday weekend.
