I was thinking about his prior trouble concerning hatchet threats. Even though various witnesses have said he threatened them, for whatever reason he wasn't arrested so there's no prior offense on record. So not being on record, perhaps the judge was unable to take it into consideration? Or would the judge be able to take prior threats into consideration as part of his overall character?
His former employer/landlord said they had to call the police on him frequently. But they were not interested in bringing criminal charges, just eviction. I bet some of the damages are in court photos.

Well those were reported to LE IIRC but LE didn't arrest him so they weren't on record. If TW murder had not happened, I doubt LE would have arrested him this time either without that searcher's photo. So he would have got away with it yet again. Everything is slowly catching up with him. But a lot of his charges haven't been resolved. What happened to the FTR as a SO? Did that get dropped along with the assault and trespassing charge too?

Re the "no public connection" to the TW murder, perhaps there is only a "private" connection ATM - I.e. nothing they can announce publicly for now.

I might've misinterpreted that tweet, I took it as the victim wanted to tell the judge in person but for some reason couldn't (because it wasn't a trial?). So the prosecutor relayed the victim's wish to the judge, as a way to make the judge aware. Is that incorrect, was the victim actually there speaking to the judge? I find it very frightening what the victim relayed about DN, and it must be very scary knowing he could be out and around. These developments today aren't sitting well with me.

Detectives with the El Paso County Sheriffs Office said they have made no public connection between Nations and the Tim Watkins homicide investigation.

What does that mean, no "public" connection?
I wish we knew if that is what LE really said, or the way the reporter phrased it. If those are LE actual words then I think it means he is still part of their investigation. Which could mean the ballistics from their rifle were not conclusive and they are waiting for DNA or other evidence. If this is from LE it seems like a "wink-wink" statement.

I wonder how close he actually came to striking someone with the hatchet? Wish we had more of the story on trespassing, I believe he was coming after someone in their vehicle.
Good call on the "missing" charges!
It does sound like he is still part of the RE investigation.

I'm also confused by the "no public connection" comment, but it isn't new. Same comment is in KOAA stories at least as far back as October 16th.

Okay, we'll have to agree to disagree. My definition of cunning and manipulative is committing crimes for personal gain or benefit and then avoiding charges. Most of his recent charges he's been convicted of fall into what I would define as self-serving stupidity, often common to people with drug and alcohol dependency which may or may not be responsible for his lack of stability. Being homeless with a criminal record imo is hitting rock bottom. Very hard to work ones way up, even if there's a genuine desire.

2016

April: Nations was arrested in Greenwood for driving on a suspended license. Court documents show police also found what appeared to be marijuana inside his vehicle. Again, he skipped town.
August: Nations was arrested again for driving on a suspended license in Hendricks County.
November: Nations was charged with possession of marijuana.
I don't know about cunning but maybe manipulation. I knew a guy once who was abusive and always brought trouble on himself. He really couldn't control it. He was an alcoholic and added in any pain meds he could get. But when he sobered up, you have never known a sorrier person. He spent his life so filled with self-loathing it made him depressed and hyper sensitive as KN says that people looked down on him. He could sincerely make people believe he regretted his actions to the deepest level. And I think he did regret, but he couldnt control it so it ALWAYS happened again.
I think DN continues to appeal to people's compassion. That is manipulative, it is his base instinct. And it is judges, prosecutors, employers and landlords who should see the path he is on and realize true compassion often requires you to do the tough thing.

Wonder if the leniency may be secondary to his military time served (ptsd noted). MOO.

PTSD... LOL yeah sure.

I ignored rumors and had a lot of respect for Dan Mays until this case. But I guess Dan Mays, the highest paid $215,000/yr DA in Colorado, does not even care that DN committed perjury in court today right in front of his eyes.

"Shortly after the family arrived, thieves broke into their car and stole his wallet and cash, stranding his family in the Pikes Peak region, Nations told the judge." http://gazette.com/plea-deal-nets-p...nt-herman-hatchet-threat-case/article/1618455

DN checked out of the hotel in Greenwood, IN on May 12th,
On May 16th IN DENVER, KN posts on FB, "the money we had saved was stolen during the trip."
"we are IN DENVER and have been trying to find work".

On June 4th, KN makes another posts as a review on a tattoo shop IN DENVER.

They never had any money saved much less had it stolen in the "Pikes Peak region". They were running from the law! Hey Dan! DENVER is 75 miles north of Colorado Springs. They were "hiding" in the forest because he was not a registered sex offender. Did you even investigate this case? A 17.5% pay raise in 2016. 27% pay raise in 2013. This is what we get?

No guys. It became clear after the first court delay and not "filing additional charges" even though they had "evidence", what was really going on.

The DA is not waiting on DNA tests, nor do they have ballistics, nor do they have cell phone logs, nor do they even care what the public thinks unless an election is near.

Unfortunately it looks like Dan Mays is more crony politician than criminal prosecuting attorney and the el paso county sheriff's office has become a clown show under the new leadership of Bill Elder. https://dirtyelder.com/articles/
(Conspiracy for all you who love such things; Could it be that DN has ties to the 211 Crew in Colorado prisons via his ties to the Saxon Knights in Indiana and they have threatened Dan May with assassination if he prosecutes DN? Or, did DN's plea bargain involve information regarding the assassination of a Denver DA with a similar name to Dan Mays? or to the Tom Clemins assassination? Is DN a mole, a snitch? read this and think about it. https://dirtyelder.com/articles/clements1/ )

There were eye witnesses testifying against DN. Why would you plea bargain a case with witnesses and evidence? and let him walk out of jail. It makes zero sense.

Anyway, just goes to show no matter how much money you throw at a government agency, unless the crony culture changes, you're just throwing money down the toilet. I really hate to say it but I believe the only reason the court records have been sealed is to cover up the incompetence, or corruption, at the top of the sheriffs office in this investigation. I feel sorry for the grunts on bottom. I really do.

Don't believe me? read on.
Another person who was a friend of a friend, killed shortly after TW was killed due to the incompetence within the el paso county sheriffs office.
http://gazette.com/killer-on-the-ro...-ellicott-teacher-and-himself/article/1617662

You have to wonder if TW would still be alive today had the el paso county sheriff notified trail users in the Mt Herman area that someone was running around with a hatchet. Nothing. No PSA. No reaching out to trail groups. No blotter reports to the Gazette. They knew someone was out there and they said nothing. They hid it just like they are hiding the court documents.

And I bet if someone put those cell phone logs on my desk Monday morning I could tell you who was near TW on Sept 13th at 11 am by the end of the week. It's not that difficult.

So be careful out there guys! Lesson learned here. Always remember that there's nobody backing you up, especially in el paso county. Nice ranting with you and thanks for putting up with me. The show is over until he kills again. And I'm afraid he will....

Time to go lock and load. Heard there's a killer walking around town. Signing off.

Really? Why? Looks like he's in the pokey until the 10th, he got 3 years supervised probation, will serve 2 if he violates it, has to be mentally evaluated and drug tested, his kids are still with DHS and he's still a poi in the Delphi murders.
My only question is will he be extradited to Indiana once they plea or drop the charges left to be heard in CO?

I like my scenario so much better. I guess I want to be hopeful. I don't want to believe that DN is going to be walking around anytime soon. Having read what you have written, I see your sad explanation as a possibility as well.

You are right. There were no warnings. And a child was threatened. That really scares me.

I'm hoping you're wrong.

When shire had posted, earlier in the day, the article was vastly less informative and contained a lot of errors. The writer corrected it at around 5pm.

The article was updated. It didnt make sense originally when I read it. I don't know on the extraditing issue. I'm waiting to see what happens re. In warrants.

I agree with both you and empty bottles. I am so disappointed for TW's family and friends and can't wait to see what MSM make of it. A lot of questions need to be asked now. No more hiding behind sealed arrest warrants and autopsies .

His janky legs in that perp walk sure do look like BG's janky legs to me MOO

Watching it again I keep thinking his shape does not match BG. I know he loses and gains weight but he's just too small in the shoulders. moo, of course

Really curious to see what happens after Clear Creek.
