I guess we shouldn't really be surprised. But it always shocks me to hear of these lunatics committing such horrible acts. So when another one tries, I don't know why I didn't expect it.

Anytime there's a mass shooting in a public place I freak out because there are always more elsewhere after that. There was recently the mall in Oregon and I think something before that one.

Which brother's girlfriend is missing ?

ABC2 reports that childhood home of L's is 2 1/2 mi from school.

One adult body inside this home.

Lanza mother is reported dead at the school.

AP reporting that Lanza's GF and another friend are missing in New Jersey.

ABC2 reports that shooter did not utter a word.

I heard of this earlier, was away from computer. My eyes filled with tears. I was out Christmas shopping and could not finish. WTH is wrong with people. These were the most innocent amount us. Please people quit killing our children!

I pray for the families of all deceased and the ones that endured this today!

Many childhood's were not free from fear. I was a child during the cold war and we had air raid drills, had to crawl under our desks, or trot down to the shelters. Every time I heard a whistling sort of sound, I tensed up, waiting for the bomb to fall.
The Cuban missile crisis! Also we came close to witnessing on TV the assassinations of a president, a civil rights leader, and a presidential candidate. Kent State.

So many of us were convinced we'd not survive to adults - and many of our classmates who were drafted did not.:anguish:

Here's the text of an email we got from my kid's school a few minutes ago:

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Our hearts go out to Connecticut today. With the tragedy that occurred, I want to assure you that the safety of your children continues to be our top priority in the *advertiser censored* School District.

Our administrators are aware of the situation, and are following the security measures outlined in their comprehensive building plans. As always, exterior doors remain locked with the exception of the main entrances. All adults wear identification badges. Cell phones and two-way radio and networking capabilities are in place in each building throughout the district. We also want you to know *advertiser censored* Police conduct annual security assessments of the schools and provide recommendations. Additionally, please remember that the District Safety Schools Hotline (1-*advertiser censored*) allows people to call 24-hours-a-day to report any concerns.

Hearing about a tragic event may affect a child in many ways. We suggest you listen to your children. If they seem to need to talk, answer their questions simply, honestly and possibly over and over again. Below are some suggestions that parents may find useful in helping children deal with the present events:
• Assure fearful children that you will be there to take care of them. Reassure them many times.
• Provide physical closeness. Spend extra time putting your child to bed. Talk and offer reassurance.
• Encourage children to ask questions and to discuss, write or draw their feelings.
• Be a good listener. Listen carefully for any misconceptions or distortions the student may have regarding what happened.
• Talk with your child and provide simple, accurate information to questions.
• Provide play and fun experiences to relieve tension.
• Help the child develop safety plans and procedures ("What should you do if…..?")
• Remind them of concrete examples of where they are being protected and cared for by parents, adults, teachers, police, etc.
• Make sure the child gets rest and exercise.

It is very important to keep a sense of normalcy with our young people. We continue with our lessons today. Please do not hesitate to contact your school if you have any questions or concerns.

Good advice for all of us with kids today..

The "AL" on twitter (followed by RL) cleared up who he is and he is not related or involved whatsoever in this mess.... he can be left alone, poor guy.

Did he post about any fears for his mother's/other family member's safety or reactions to the news about his mother's death?

He didn't post publicly at all. Only his friends could see his posts.
Which didn't make a lot of sense to me if you were trying to clear your name.
Another Ryan Lanza made public posts stating it wasn't him. Which makes far more sense to me.

MY question would be how does a developmentally disabled kid get multiple guns and bulletproof vest?

Newtown, Conn. School District Had Recently Installed New Safety Protocols

... had just installed a new safety policy designed to prevent situations such as what happened on Friday. ...

As usual, exterior doors will be locked during the day. Every visitor will be required to ring the doorbell at the front entrance and the office staff will use a visual monitoring system to allow entry. Visitors will still be required to report directly to the office and sign in. If our office staff does not recognize you, you will be required to show identification with a picture id. ...

Doors will be locked at approximately 9:30 a.m. ...

It is unclear how the shooter, reportedly armed with two semi-automatic handguns, gained access to the school or if he showed identification, or if he had entered prior to the 9:30 a.m. doors-locked mandate. It is also unclear how the shooter gained access to the school halls and classrooms. ...

I wonder if the switched IDs had to do with this. Might there have been problems with Adam that would have caused him not to be let in if he revealed his true identity?

Just heard on radio there's no body in NJ but older brother Ryan is being questioned in NJ. WTH? I wish the news people would shut up and wait until the real facts come out. This is crazy with all this wild details! My brain can't keep all these bizarre stories straight!

And they said the MOTHER, the teacher, was found dead in her home!

This bad reporting is insane.

Now comes the gun control. If someone in that school had a gun, it is possible less people may have died. As it was, it seems the only one who did have a gun was the nut job murderer, whoever he was.

Sad thing is in my state you can not even bring a gun on school grounds.

My son is LE, when he does training at the local college even he (LE) has to leave firearm in car.

You know I'm really proud of these kids that are talking on the news - they're so calm and brave. Especially that lil cute one that had bullets zoom by him when he was in the hallway.

And his brother's ID.

So we did have the right guy but it was his brother and not him that did the shooting. What a horrible way for him to find out that his brother is a mass murderer and that his mother is deceased.

Ryan, I'm so very sorry.

This is SO unacceptable. This just keeps getting worse and worse

There are going to be so many funerals over this holiday season.... it's so, so cruel...

I've got NBC on, and as far as I can recall, they never mentioned that there was a body anywhere in NJ, just that they had questioned people from a house in Hoboken.

The other body was/is at a house in CT.
