Coronation of King Charles III - 6 May 2023

It’s growing on me. This interesting interview with the artist gives some insight into his thinking.

He deliberately minimized the visual distractions in his portrait to "allow people to connect with the human being underneath".
There's a great deal of sympathy for the King, Yeo adds. The portrait "reflects exactly who he is, everything he represents and what he's been through".
————————
The portrait was commissioned by the Drapers' Company, the City of London livery company which has been collecting royal portraits for centuries.
His painting will go up in Drapers' Hall in London surrounded by "a dozen other fabulous, similarly huge portraits of Queen Victoria and various other kings and queens".

The Palace said
Their Majesties send their
'sincere apologies'
to anyone who may be affected by the decision.

Buckingham Palace spokesperson said:

'Following the Prime Minister's statement this afternoon
calling a General Election (4th July),
the Royal Family will,
in accordance with normal procedure,
postpone engagements that may appear to divert attention or distract from the election campaign'.

The King could be set for the third prime minister of his reign."

"The Queen
is a 1997 portrait by the English painter Justin Mortimer of Queen Elizabeth II.

The portrait was commissioned by the Royal Society of the Arts to mark their 50th anniversary of association with the Queen,
and hangs in their headquarters.

It was officially unveiled in May 1998.

The portrait was initially displayed to the public for five days in January 1998 at the Business Design Centre in Islington, north London."

They must have brought Picasso up from the grave! :p

"King Charles bank notes enter circulation today -

here are the first

£5, £10, £20 and £50

serial numbers to hunt for

that could be worth a fortune.

New bank notes featuring King Charles III will enter circulation for the first time from today.

The new polymer notes replace those featuring the late Queen Elizabeth II
and are the culmination of an extraordinary feat of design,
logistics and planning 10 years in the making.

King Charles III will be only the second monarch to appear on Bank of England bank notes, the first being Queen Elizabeth II in 1960.

Although the notes that enter circulation on 5 June 2024
will feature a new portrait of the monarch,
the reverse side of each note remains unchanged.

King Charles was presented with the new bank notes by Bank of England Govenor Andrew Bailey and Sarah John, the bank of England's Chief Cashier."

"Princess Anne

is in hospital after suffering

'minor injuries and concussion'

following incident on Gatcombe Park estate.

Princess Anne
has been injured by a horse and rushed to hospital
where she is being treated for concussion and minor injuries to her head.

The King's 73-year-old sister, an Olympic horsewoman,
was walking on her Gatcombe Park estate in Gloucestershire yesterday when she was hurt.

is understood that she was taking an evening stroll with horses nearby when she was hurt.

The Princess Royal was left with minor wounds to the head,
and her medical team are understood to believe these are consistent with a potential impact from a horse's head or legs.

But due to the concussion sustained by the Princess,
precise details of the accident are unable to be ascertained at the moment.

An air ambulance was flown to the scene
but not required to take HRH to hospital.

The royal was given treatment before being taken to Southmead Hospital in Bristol for tests, treatment and observation,
with Sir Tim by her side."

"How 'hardest working royal'

Anne

has played a key role in propping up

Charles' slimmed-down monarchy

as King and Kate battle cancer -

and what it could mean for the Royal Family now she's in hospital."
