I don't trust them to , no one should.

I'd more trust elderly patients than in young teens/college kids who follow strict self-isolation/quarantine. No way are they gonna not see their gf/bf or friends, no sneak out for a snack or fast food.
I assumed the ones in San Antonio were on struck quarantine at the Army base but it seems they weren't. How is this a quarantine if you send people to hotels and ask them to hopefully self-isolate?

I am a naturally solitary person and after working in administration at a college all week I am quite sick of people. I would love to isolate myself for a month starting right now. I have plenty of hobbies.

Be careful with flushable wipes, they aren’t all flushable even if they say so and will create a nasty clog over time.

I agree. The elderly are very aware that if they get sick, there could be dire results.

I was reading a Vox article....."The coronavirus exposes the history of racism and “cleanliness " While the epidemic may be new, xenophobia has been intertwined with public health discourse for a very long time."

Scrolling through this thread I do not see one post, yet, where anyone discusses the moral implications and how pharmaceutical companies are probably gearing up to make a vaccine that they will claim "Everyone should get" and everyone will run out and do it. The Pharmaceutical industry is known for gaining huge profits in cases of "epidemics" and also cases of "pandemics."

I am not seeing any sense of care for the citizens of China at all in any post.

I’m not following. Hell ya everyone should get the vaccine if it’s available. You seem to be implying this is a conspiracy on the part of the pharmaceutical industry. It’s not. Epidemics exist. Pandemics exist. What makes this one different?

The bottom line is health insurance companies bear the costs of ill people and they advocate vaccines like mad. Because they work.

Picked up a few more essentials today, great sales on meats at my grocer helped, added some more bread/condiments/OTC meds/goodies for the grandkids, etc; Starting to get more nervous just seeing everybody out and about not utilizing the sanitation wipes for carts, not covering coughs correctly, It’s all making me paranoid. I really just want to get my grandkids and hunker down in our basement until this is under control. When is that exactly? Ugh. Thinking board games are a must buy this weekend, start thinking of things to fight boredom like an earlier poster suggested. MOO

I hear ya! I have old cats....same issue. :)

jmo
If you are referring to elderly cats and their bathroom habits, here's a tip. I had a cat who lived to (almost) 22 years. She usually forgot where her litter box was located. (Completely senile) So, I placed water absorbent pads around the house, in rooms she mainly frequented. They actually only needed to be laundered every so often. And for smell - the best is Anti-Icky-Poo. Spray it and there is no cat urine smell.

I wonder what the US prisons have for contingency plans, in case they run low on guards, etc.? Would they just open the gates?

That’s a good question. Hoping they’d just release non-violent prisoners.

Here are plans Washington County Oregon where the two cases are is instituting for screening incoming prisoners.

Deputies tell KATU a questionnaire is filled out for everyone booked inside. They answer questions about symptoms and travel. Those at risk are flagged and speak with a nurse.

Washington County jail screening incoming inmates for coronavirus

ETA: Of course, the cases in Washington county did not involve travel AFAIK. Better than nothing I suppose.

Dang...in addition to living/working Orange County, my son's company has huge ties with the Seattle area...please please please do not send my boy to Everett no more! Tho I guess he's in as much danger with them sending his co workers...

There will have to be many people self quarantining. They will have no other choice. Let's all pray that this does not blow up because we're not ready if it does. Imo

Agree. The nurse's unions are speaking out about the need for more testing and proactive measures, but for some reason its not being covered in the news media.

Here's the National Nurse's United letter to VP Pence

https://act.nationalnursesunited.org/page/-/files/graphics/NNULetterCOVID-1903022020.pdf

According to a survey done by NNU,

  • Only 29% of hospitals responding have a plan in place to isolate patients with coronavirus.

  • Only 27% of reporting hospitals have access to powered air-purifying respirators to protect nurses and other staff

  • Only 30% of respondents hospitals have sufficient PPE on hand to handle a surge in corornavirus patients

Are our local state Governments obligated to tell us when governments obligated to tell us how many people have tested positive?
I think they should but do they have to do it in a timely manner?

if people who are not paying attention hear that there are several cases near them maybe they will pay better attention and take care of themselves more.

I think transparency is important, especially if our goal is contain and delay. I think large employers need to be transparent also. I know there are HIPPA laws, but without providing names and other identifying information, I think there is an ethical responsible to be transparent and timely.

Yes, there were some news stories about cities and towns having sewer problems because of these, Europe and US. They may be flushable, IIRC, but they don't dissolve or go away.

I went to RiteAid to get my prescription (and more peroxide, wipes) and there were so many people in there coughing. Yikes! In and out I was.

PS No hand sanitizer available but they had antibacterial soap, lysol wipes, bleach and candy on the "most popular" shelf.
