In Santa Clara County we’ve been advised to stay away from groups over 50 people, and to stay within an “arm’s reach” of others.

Now.... many people and organizations have been ignoring this advice. But that’s what has been advised.

I got some good opinions earlier, but I appreciate knowing the “official” advice in your area. Thanks!

ETA: 50 people is less than most churches or college classrooms, etc. Talk about “social distancing”!

Yeah, not buying safety at arms length moo. Doc T said 6 feet.

There’s also Canadian officials who talked about distances in airplanes during the “rescue missions” ow my head.

Yeah arms length, one sneeze and....

Guys, remember how contagious this is. This is highly highly highly contagious, several quotes from Dr. Fauci and many others on that. Not even a question.

My Socal son says Boeing is 'strongly recommending' that those in the Seattle area that can work from home do so. Nothing about his Socal location tho he says he can do some of his work from home. There is at least one Boeing employee in Everett who is positive. Says it is quite possible he has been exposed as there is a lot of back and forth between Socal and Seattle area. No, don't come Mom, stay home...

I just had a great idea, not sure if being implemented, maybe/surely it is, (don’t call me Shirley), mobile labs...

Key word, “mobile”.

I’m going back to the empty street of Wuhan videos as I visualize this..

Doc T’:...we must take this opportunity to really learn what we can from China...

I think it’s very important to post videos of early days, because really it is like “evidence” we normally long for as websleuthers, furthermore cont.,

Iirc, there’s a quote about Wuhan, going back for quote...and NY and a London I posted in thread 1..noting

Yes population density

Can we please for reference have comparison on population density for

W vs LA
W vs Seattle
W vs NYC
ETC

Lemme get on that.

Okay, this may sound alarmist, but jumping off what I was trying to say earlier:

We as WSers, this is where we have “our evidence”. It is what has happened to date around the world. We have China, Italy, S. Korea to study...as WHO leaders said about Wuhan they are the sacrifical data.

The difference is we have had a lot of time to prepare, and this is the United States...

Before we go into that,

How are our British friends doing? I suspect numbers aren’t looking good right now, let’s take a look.

I’ve decided I’m just going to be. Try to live without the fear of the unknown.
I’ve tagged along for 16 threads now...checking for updates when I can but it’s moving so fast and sparking so much anxiety.
I traveled cross country this week but didn’t see a single mask but admittedly saw a lot of hand sanitizer being applied.
I think this thing will run its course. Maybe it is better for all if it is slow, as to not overload health systems ...But...In my opinion (not quite a lay person but close to) this corona has been around longer that the ‘authorities’ know about and we are seeing the crest of the wave as was the same with H1N1. Yes, it’s novel to science but maybe it’s been kicking around a while...
I’m realist enough to wish all well but also optimistic enough to hope, at the end of the day, the % mortality will be way below the scary figures panicking us right now.
Cheers all...see you on the other side...(not a suggestion of afterlife...just an idea that this too shall pass)

I AM the older (I can’t handle “elderly” yet) relative. I’m trying to figure out how to advise our 49 yo daughter who flies a lot for work that this seriously is no joke. She doesn’t have a choice and I don’t want her to worry about us.

Clearly you’re NOT elderly. A lot of it has to do with mentality. Some of it’s luck. My mom is 83. She was chosen to speak by BOTH of her bachelor’s programs at last years commencement. People went insane in the crowd when she stated her age. She’s NO little old lady. She has four times as much energy as I do and I still really need her advice all the time

She can out party me easily and loves to dance.

Then I have a friend that whose mother is 70 and in a care home. She’s been declining for ten years.

I can’t see 65 as elderly.

Yeah and Breaking Bad...... but it's a big state with sparse population for the land mass. We have walls around houses which spread out horizontally rather than vertically and maintain 12 ft when chit-chatting with neighbors.

ETA....and Better Call Saul
It's an incredible place of geological beauty and history. A very memorable state of immense character (oooh and yummy cuisine)

I just had a great idea, not sure if being implemented. Maybe it is—

Mobile labs. Etc.

Key word, “mobile”.

Laboratories are licensed and regulated by a Federal Agency that is run under Dept of Health & Human Services, and certain kinds of regulations pertain to the people who perform the testing. For good reason. Incompetent testing would be a disaster.

Mobile areas to "collect" specimens are less complicated.

And right now, the testing has to be centralized to be confirmed, so mobile "labs" don;t really work.

Even Influenza testing is restricted to certain types of trained personnel.

I'm as prepared food wise and sanitation wise as I can be. I'm stocked up on OTC meds. I also bought 2 big bottles of Windex. We live in the center of the woods with large windows in every room. I'm gonna wash all the windows and curtains. I'm gonna pack away the curtains and watch the blades of grass turn green and my perennials popping through the dirt. With daylight savings we'll have daylight when my husband gets home and we can walk the trails and picnic in the woods. I've come to realize I can't stop this virus by worrying. I will do what's necessary to protect my family and myself but try to focus on new life around me. If my days are numbered I'm gonna make the best of them.

Very nice.

We're facing hundreds of thousands of lives derailed due to this new virus.
Most definitely, including ours.
As we own a small Bistro, aka "Gathering space"
We are on the frontlines. Along with millions. Of others.
My question is WHY?
I've been warned here on websleuths about my anger towards countries that disrespect animals.
For me, I'll never stop crying for dogs who are thrown alive on somebody's idea of a great barbecue.
Or, even more impressive to your buddies, a rare, nearly extinct animal.
In my opinion, these barbaric actions have brought continents to their knees.
It's wrong, it's cruel.
We'll see how the stock markets do tomorrow.
My advise.
Don't frick with Mother Nature.
Assholes.

#BREAKING: @GovKemp announces four more presumptive positive cases of #coronavirus in Georgia. One is in Fulton County, another in Cherokee and two more in Cobb. @FOX5Atlanta
Claire Simms on Twitter

This brings total number of Georgia cases to five confirmed, six presumptive, pending @CDCgov confirmation. @FOX5Atlanta

Ok great, we can use this as a current study as it unfolds in real time per day. there are “testing dynamics” as well as infection transmission date variables etc., etc., of course...

But ok, I’ll take Georgia.

Study in progress:

So per the above, we can say that:

1. On Sunday, March 8, Georgia has confirmed five cases total of Covid-19.

2. Three counties are listed.

Anxiety in an aging Congress as coronavirus marches across U.S.

Not sure if this has been posted. As expected, Congress is getting nervous given their wide exposure to the public.

Exacerbated, I’m sure, with the announcements that Sen. Cruz and Rep. Gosar are isolating due to exposure to the same positive patient.

I wonder what they will do if staff start refusing to come to work. Every office I know of has open door policy so constituents can access their Members of Congress

Well, I'm trusting that the Chinese government made some good decisions. (not 100%) but I think we can see what they did to save lives.

Which is a lot more than the US Government (including Congress) has done so far.

My fairly enraged Opinion Only
:(

Trying to catch up. Can someone/anyone tell us why this outbreak is not officially called a pandemic?

It’s a political decision. Certain things start to happen when an epidemic is designated as a pandemic.

According to Mr. Gostin, there are two reasons Dr. Tedros stopped short of calling the outbreak a pandemic: Because the outbreak can still be contained, and to try to avoid unnecessary panic.

“He wanted to create a seriousness, a purpose, but not an overreaction,” Mr. Gostin said. “Not more travel bans. Not more closures of cities. Not more drain on human rights and economic activity.”

Mr. Gostin said the outbreak was still containable, though other experts have disputed that assertion. But if the outbreak reaches a level where it could no longer be controlled, it would move into a pandemic phase.
Is the Coronavirus an Epidemic or a Pandemic? It Depends on Who’s Talking
