Kim Jong Un warns of 'serious consequences' if coronavirus hits North Korea

Kim Jong Un warns of 'serious consequences' if coronavirus hits North Korea

North Korean Leader Kim Jong Un is spearheading efforts to prevent the spread of coronavirus in the isolated country, Reuters reported Friday.

The country does not have any cases on the virus so far, but its neighbors to the north and south - China and South Korea - are the two countries hardest-hit by the outbreak.

"In case the infectious disease spreading beyond control finds its way into our country, it will entail serious consequences," Kim was quoted saying in the state-run news agency, KCNA. "No special cases must be allowed within the state anti-epidemic system."

He instructed officials to "seal off all the channels and space through which the infectious disease may find its way, and strengthen check-up, test and quarantine."

So he pretty much said if you are sick the regime will make sure you do not have the opportunity to breathe any more.

Large proportion of people having only mild symptoms is good on one hand, but on the other hand these people will likely spread the disease far and wide.

just like all other coronaviruses. Every winter there are loads of colds, flu variations etc that are spread far and wide. Most of us survive them, remember that part.

"Parekh served as U.S. Department of Health & Human Services deputy assistant secretary for health from 2008 to 2015...

One thing Parekh believes people should not be doing as part of their prep is rushing to stock up on surgical masks.

'You should not be walking around with face masks. The individuals who need face masks are those who are infected, health care workers or those potentially that have been exposed. But if you are a healthy American, you do not need to be walking around with a face mask.'”

Coronavirus fears empty store shelves of toilet paper, bottled water, masks as shoppers stock up

Ahhh, and us 'ers were stocking up on TP and folks laughed. Agree that they are made in US and will not be in short supply, but less need to go out to get "staples" is good planning, and not perishable. It will be used eventually.

Also, noted in Dr. C's video, iirc, that he stated that the n95 masks have a shelf life and expiration date. Just checked mine and good to 2025. What I didn't think of was do not keep in HOT garage, so indoor storage they go. I had trash bags that got too hot last year and had to throw away as they "sealed" at the opening due to temps.

Two of Four Coronavirus Patients Being Cared for in Spokane Discharged From Hospital
SPOKANE, WA - Two of the four people from Washington state treated for coronarvirus at Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane have been discharged and are now resting at home. The department issued a statement late Friday thanking the staff at Sacred Heart Medical Center, who cared for the individuals. The patient names were not released. The four were passengers on the Diamond Princess cruise ship and were flown back to the U.S. from Japan, then sent to Spokane.

...Like during the California PC
that had the bad audio late yesterday, they were asked if they were tracing and contacting other students while the infected student was in class before he/she showed symptoms, and the response was not comforting. The officials said that they only worried about people he/she contacted after he/she started to show symptoms. Well the problem with that, is I have heard from numerous other sources that this Coronavirus can spread in asymptomatic people (no symptoms yet), so it was plain false what the official said IMO.

You would think to be on the safe side they would at least contact every classmate in every class he/she had and let them know to contact them at the first sign of any cough, fever, headache or other symptom we know happens with this. But no, the officials there are plain not even trying to contact the person's classmates because they claim he/she did not show symptoms yet. Things like this are very important if you want to try to stop the spreading. IMO our US officials are showing signs that they are failing us already....

Hatfield- was this the CA presser in Santa Clara County yesterday or the Washington State presser? Because the students pulled from my kids’ school (Santa Clara County) are at the moment only confirmed to have been directly exposed to a positive case.

The problem is that things are changing so fast, that "boots on the ground" people don't have the information from policy makers.

Policy makers don't know what to do, they are afraid of being extremist, or alternatively, being too lax. The problem here, is that there is no middle ground. And government officials are leery of actually making decisions.

I note that our president declared that he closed the border with China. Ummm, no, it was private industry that made the decision, specifically, the pilot's union, unanimously agreed that their members would not work in unsafe conditions. No flights to China, or no flights anywhere.

Government, and even the airline industry didn't make the decision to stop flying to China. It was a union contract issue.

US is STILL flying to China. The only routes they (eventually) stopped were to Hubei area.

And on and on the international flights continue to basically everywhere...

2 Massachusetts schools urge students, staff who traveled recently to stay home over coronavirus fears

By Steph Solis | ssolis@masslive.com
Two Massachusetts public schools have issued warnings urging students or staff to stay home if they’ve recently traveled abroad, citing concerns about the coronavirus.

Bellingham Public Schools in Norfolk County issued a statement noting that some students and staff members traveled to parts of the world where COVID-19 was present. The district asked students and staff members to stay home from school next week.

“There is no need for concern at this time as this is a precautionary measure,” the district said.

The district is disinfecting classrooms at night and monitoring the situation, according to the statement.

Weymouth Public Schools Superintendent Jennifer Curtis-Whipple confirmed Friday that a school employee reported having a fever on Thursday. The employee, who was not identified, had returned from a trip abroad a week ago.

Curtis-Whipple did not say where the employee traveled, but said the country did not have any travel restrictions as of Friday.

The district notified the state Department of Public Health and the local health department, but no one is suspected of having the coronavirus, Curtis-Whipple said.

The district has been notified by health officials that there is no one in the school community suspected of having Coronavirus.

More than 83,000 confirmed cases of the virus have been reported worldwide, according to the World Health Organization. More than 78,000 are in China, where the outbreak began, but hundreds of cases have also been reported in South Korea, Japan, Italy and Iran.
