I spoke too soon. My father just passed away today. While he did seem to recover from Covid, I think it took a toll on his already fragile state, so maybe it could be said to be an indirect cause.

I’m grateful it was a quiet, quick and peaceful transition, where we were spared having to make a decision on what to do “if he took a turn for the worse“.

I am sad but ok. If there is an afterlife, I like to hope he is now feeling happiness at being free from all his infirmities of life here on earth.
I'm sorry for your loss. Hugs! I understand wanting the transition to be quick and hopefully pain-free. I lost my sister to cancer 3 weeks ago and my foster brother to cancer the day before.

Thank you, everyone. Thank you, Teche.

@Teche, I am so sorry for the loss of your siblings! It feels especially difficult to navigate this during the holidays, doesn’t it. Emotionally and logistically. :(

Just found out that my niece and her boyfriend have been off work this week with Covid. They were planning to come for a visit next week with their 18-month-old daughter. They (and we) think it's best to reschedule the visit for another time.

So I guess I am the last one standing in my extended family, who has not yet caught Covid. My husband tested positive last week.

He was very sick for 3 days, but has been much better past 2 days. Luckily, I have avoided it so far. And I was not really exposed because he went on a road trip with 2 friends to see another friend's comedy show in Vegas. I didnt want him to go, but he said " we are all good friends for 50 years now, and this may be our last hurrah" ...lol, so I agreed.

But I didn't let him come back home right from Vegas. He came and picked up some clothes and went to his friends who had gone to Vegas with him. Turns out they both tested positive 3 days later...

Good news is he feels ok and I guess the boosters did their job.

Thank you. It’s difficult but I'm at peace regarding my sister and brother’s deaths. I know we’ll meet again.

Most Americans aren’t wearing face masks anymore — and their timing isn’t great, says a leading infectious disease expert.

Just 26% of Americans reported in October that they’re wearing masks outside of their homes. That’s a decrease of about 20% to 50% from 2020 and 2021, according to data collected by the Covid States Project.

At the same time, Covid-19, the flu and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) are all spreading at alarming rates, overwhelming hospitals nationwide. Covid alone currently accounts for 386 deaths per day, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The flu and RSV likely add to that figure, though the agency doesn’t report the number of deaths per day for those viruses.

“We have always been fearing that these viruses were going to come back, but then as they came, they came back too fast and too furious,” Dr. Diego Hijano, an infectious disease specialist with a focus on pediatric infections at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, tells CNBC Make It...

Had to go to Urgent Care yesterday for a UTI. ugh...anyways, the place was packed with coughing kids, babies and adults. Everyone had an Upper Respitory problem...and the front desk worker was NOT wearing a mask! I was appalled.
Plus, I would say it was 50-50 on mask wearing, with NONE of the children wearing one even though there was a box of pediatric masks on the front desk available along with adult masks. It was really awful. One lady had a roll of toilet tissue in her lap, wiping her nose ever so often with it..no mask of course.
I waited in my car. After I left I went online and left a review about the mask situation and the front desk not wearing one. Said it was the place to go if you really want to get sick!

I hope you're not too uncomfortable and that antibiotics will help get rid of the UTI quickly. Pure cranberry juice helps; I always have it on hand.

Beyond a wooded area behind our home is a senior care facility: post-op rehab, memory care, assisted living, senior apartments. During the summer months when the foliage is full, we don't see much activity, but during the winter we can see cars in the parking lot and emergency vehicles at one of the buildings from our rear windows. While we hadn't heard sirens, there were three emergency vehicles in the parking lot this morning with lights flashing - two ambulances and a fire truck. Not a great way to start Christmas, and we hope that no one was seriously injured in whatever the incident might have been.

Merry Christmas, everyone!

When we lived at a retirement community, a friend who was a retired 911 dispatcher told me that if it’s a suspected heart attack a fire truck comes with the ambulance so there will be extra personnel to help. So that may be the case for your neighboring facility…two separate calls using two ambulances and the fire truck for reinforcements on the heart attack call. I had never known that before.
