Hi All,
My friend T.J. has COVID again. He's not in the hospital, but is feeling pretty awful. I'd very much appreciate any healing thoughts and/or prayers you could send his way.
Thank you SO much!

P.S. I'm not online daily; last time I posted about him, I was negligent in letting everyone know he was ok, and I waited far too long to thank you all- so please forgive me if I'm slow to update. I'm beyond grateful for the kindness each of you took time to extend to me and TJ.

I'm sorry to hear your friend has Covid again. I think the country is losing sight that this nasty virus remains with this and continues to infect people, sometimes more than once. I hope your friend feels better soon.

Thank you so much! He's had the vaccine and booster...just started going maskless a couple of weeks ago. Scary stuff!

Although people are still getting infected even though they got the vaccine and booster, I do believe the vaccines are saving millions of lives. In this country we are basically living normal lives because of the vaccine. However, this is a vile nasty awful virus and people are still dying because of it. I stopped wearing a mask when we go to the grocery store-- I still don't dine out although I am re-thinking that maybe I should begin to live a little more of a normal life. At this point I am still living the life of a hermit. Anyway, take care.

In October 2021, Da’Vion Miller was found unconscious in the bathroom of his home in Detroit a week after receiving his first dose of Pfizer's Covid vaccine.

He had known something was wrong: Then 22, he had started experiencing chest pain two days after getting vaccinated, followed by fatigue, shortness of breath and dizziness.

Miller was rushed to Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital, where he was diagnosed with myocarditis, an inflammation of the heart muscle, and pericarditis, an inflammation of the outer lining of the heart. His doctor advised him not to receive a second dose of either the Pfizer or the Moderna vaccines.

“I was like, that’s crazy,” Miller said, noting that he knows the heart inflammation condition following vaccination is extremely rare...

I got the new bivalent Moderna booster vaccination on Friday, and had forgotten about the side effects I experienced in the past after being vaccinated or boosted. I was feeling pretty bad for about 36 hours, with fever, aches and pains, general malaise. At least it's done now and hopefully will offer some protection as Covid cases increase again through the fall and winter holiday seasons.

DH and I are getting our bivalent boosters on Wednesday. I haven't had side effects other than a sore arm, but DH usually has a low-grade fever and lethargy for a day and a half. We don't have plans for the later part of the week so he can rest.

I have never stopped wearing a KN95 mask (sometimes two of them--lol) in stores and indoor spaces, and I am the only person in an office of about 30 people who has kept and still uses the transparent plastic curtain barriers.

My husband and I happen to be on the same page with this (which is nice because otherwise one of us would have gotten the other sick by now, I think), and we still don't go to restaurants. We have had all five vaccinations/boosters, plus flu shots.

I struggle with junior high-type feelings of weirdness when I am the only "kid" with a mask on at the store, concert, or meeting, but actually I know of four people among those 30 at work who have had Covid within the last month. Long-term effects remain a possibility, and that is probably what gives me pause at this point more than anything.

A natural eagerness to return to business as usual has had a strong pull in our society, and that is very understandable. However, I feel like a little less "usual-ness" and a tad more personal inconvenience extended out a little farther might have served us better. This virus and its various incarnations is still one ugly little creep.

Have a wonderful trip!

We went on a European River Cruise in August 2022. We were vaxxed and double-boosted, too. Unfortunately, my husband caught Covid and passed it to me. Fortunately, it did not exhibit until we were back home, so we were able to enjoy ourselves for the whole of the cruise.

Fever for 1-2 days. A cough lingered, after feeling well, about a week, but the cough was not that bad. No problem with loss of taste or smell. No nasal congestion. We reported our Covid cases to our health care provider, but we did not get Paxlovid or take anything besides acetaminophen (Tylenol). I had not had fever in probably decades, so that in itself was not pleasant. For us, it felt similar to a flu. I feel very lucky to have gotten over Covid pretty easily, and without lasting aftereffects. This was our first time getting Covid.

I was very apprehensive of going on this trip because of Covid, but like you, felt it’s time to get out there and try to do things, take reasonable precautions, and hope for the best. I wish you all the best!
Thanks for your good wishes :) Sorry that you and your husband had Covid. I hope neither of you experiences long-term effects.

I'm a little apprehensive about our January cruise but it's time to enjoy life again. We had long planned a Mediterranean cruise for our 50th wedding anniversary in 2021 but that didn't come to fruition due to Covid :( We're not getting any younger and feel that we should travel while we're still in good health. We plan to take precautions on our upcoming trip. We've both been masking on flights for many years and long before Covid. Hotels near Port Everglades offer shuttle service to the cruise port, but we will take a taxi instead of getting into a crowded van.

On our last few cruises, we've avoided the main dining rooms that are noisy with tables too close together. Service is usually slow and, quite honestly, food quality has deteriorated. We prefer the specialty dining options (upcharge) that offer more privacy, better food, and attentive service. If we're staying in our stateroom to watch TV or a movie, we order room service. We don't need a 5-course meal every night :D

We've booked one shore excursion that will be on an open-air trolley. If we go to a shipboard venue like a lounge or theatre, we will try to find seating away from other people. We will definitely avoid contact with people who don't seem well, coughing, or sneezing. We probably spend more time in our stateroom or on our balcony than other passengers, and that suits us just fine.

Sounds like a great plan!!!

Here at the Retirement Home, there is a particular woman who loves to go around and give everyone hugs. She comes up to me and says "let me give you a hug!" I say " no, no, you know Covid, the Flu, all that stuff." She replies "oh who cares about Covid anymore?" as she adjusts her oxygen tubes that she has to wear full time and carries around her O2 bottles.....because she got Covid pneumonia and never fully recovered.
I'm glad that I'm not one for acquaintance hugs anyway - a small upside to Covid. JMO.

I feel for you. It's not a walk in the park.

I lost the weekend before - got my bivalent booster on Nov 4. Bone-crushing. Each time I say, "this might be my last one", but I haven't stopped yet.

Age and health are what are factors for us, too. I’m 66 and my husband is 71. We have some health issues, but are relatively healthy in body and mind, and still very mobile, so we feel like the time is now for traveling.

You have good plans for minimizing your risk. You and your husband being on the same page is the biggest help. My husband is not as cautious as I am, and as I said, HE caught it and passed it onto ME.:(

(off topic, but nodding at your comment about not needing a 5-course meal every night! It an get tiresome. A highlight for us was eating at the Bitzinger sausage stand in Vienna.:p )

DH was 74 in October, and I will turn 73 the day that we fly to Fort Lauderdale for the 10-night sailing.

I forgot to mention in my original post that we absolutely NEVER go anywhere near the buffet  We weren't fans before Covid and would definitely never go now. We have been on cruises with multiple cases of Norovirus, and the crowded buffet was a perfect breeding ground for the nasty stomach virus.

We like to savor local cuisine but will play that by ear on our upcoming cruise. We plan to avoid getting into vehicles as much as possible, so if there are local eateries that we can walk to, we'll disembark for lunch once or twice.

A cruise ship docked in Sydney, Australia with 800 covid positive passengers.
I've been keeping tabs on ships that currently have Covid cases. I read several reports about the Majestic Princess in Australia, and I also read that there are cases onboard the Enchanted Princess during its trans-Atlantic sailing from Europe to Fort Lauderdale. That's the ship we'll be on, so I hope and pray that Enchanted Princess will be healthy when we embark on January 28.

You will take all the precautions needed to keep safe.

I'm pretty much a homebody and won't mind staying in our stateroom (or sitting on the balcony), watching TV/movies, or reading and doing word puzzles. I don't require constant activity or entertainment and don't mind being a happy hermit. DH is more extroverted and will probably want to participate in shipboard activities. I won't mind as long as he makes an effort to social distance and avoid folks who might be sick. Neither of us wants to get sick and will do whatever is necessary to stay well.

DH and I got our Pfizer bivalent boosters yesterday. DH was awake in the wee hours because he had chills and a low-grade fever. My arm hurts a little but other than that, I'm fine. We'll spend a quiet day at home.
