Trump approves Michigan’s disaster declaration

The White House announced Saturday that President Trump has approved Michigan’s request for a disaster declaration.

Yesterday, President Donald J. Trump declared that a major disaster exists in the State of Michigan and ordered federal assistance to supplement state, tribal, and local recovery efforts in the areas affected,” the White House said in a statement.

I hope he apologies to her too.
yesterday he called Governor Whitmer "That woman in Michigan" ( live TV)
Is there a point to this? Michigan is getting aid, isn't that the important thing?

Yes, IMO it is out of line for a president to publicly toss out misogynistic labels at a woman governor, while literally the whole world, and especially the USA is in a state of war, a state of severe economic distress, a state of extreme health concerns.

He should apologize.

How awful Instacart had to shop that long.
In the future, everyone that still goes in stores & other public places will need to be on their toes. I doubt I’ll ever go to a casino again, despite normally going 3-5 Xs weekly. The thought of a hotel room makes me cringe, as well as many other things. We will always have those that don’t take precautions & only care about their own life, so the rest of us have to live accordingly. I used to see people in WMT walking around with a cookie or donut in their hand eating while shopping, I never understood how they could enjoy a sweet treat with germ laden hands. I hope they refrain from such blatant dirty hand/mouth contact in the future.
Unfortunately not all can dart in and out. My instacart shopper was in a big store for three hours just trying to get about 15 items. :(

As for CV always being here, this stresses me out and it is real, as Dr. Mike said this could evolve into a regular flu...I am hoping it will be like SARS though as far as dissipation .

"As Louisiana braces for a surge of coronavirus cases, the state pleads for federal help". As Louisiana braces for surge of coronavirus cases, state pleads for federal help
ABC News on Twitter

During a private teleconference with governors this week, Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards told President Donald Trump the state needs significant federal resources as it braces for an expected surge in COVID-19 infections.

Louisiana has only 381 ICU beds available, Edwards said, and he expects the need will overwhelm the supply in hospitals by early April.

"We believe by April 7 we will lack capacity in our hospitals," Edwards told the president.

IMO....YES

"Masks of course aren't the only difference--and maybe not even the major one. But data speak. And they're asking a question: Are the no-mask countries making a mistake?"
Jon Cohen on Twitter

There's probably a whole set of behaviours that go along with wearing a mask, which as a group has reduced the transmission rate. The people probably also don't touch things, wash their hands, keep physical distancing, don't drop their litter, and are much better informed in general. We need to study what they are doing, because obviously it's working.

CANADA

"British Columbia on track for a far smaller outbreak than Ontario. The difference good public health leadership makes. Current Ontario projection is 35,000 cases, which is a likely low-ball. BC projection is around 1400." David Fisman on Twitter

I’m sorry but IMHO this is comparing apples to oranges. And it’s no more helpful than comparing one state to another. The crossing where I live in Ontario is the busiest in North America. The most visited state in the US is New York (Ontario crossing) and the highest number of visitors that stay for at least 7 days Florida (Ontario snowbirds). All of which have nothing to do with public health.

UInv - The Nevada Unemployment Insurance Claim Filing System

Finally, the "government officials" updated the Unemployment Insurance website for the State of Nevada. Nothing is open in Las Vegas, literally, aside from stores for food, guns. Thousands of people are out of work.

And the "work search" requirement were still in effect. Now, they have put more information on the website.

Here's the list of essential retail services that can stay open under new government measures

(Ireland)

THE GOVERNMENT HAS published its updated list of essential retail services to remain open following the announcement of further restrictions by Taoiseach Leo Varadkar last night.

A list of essential non-retail services is expected to be published later today by the Government.

Varadkar introduced the emergency measures which came into effect from midnight following advice from the National Public Health Emergency Team.

Those measures include the restriction on social gatherings of any number of people with anyone outside of an individual’s own household as well as the cocooning of everyone over the ages of 70 years old.

Essential retail services are:

  1. Retail and wholesale sale of food, beverages and newspapers in non-specialised and specialised stores
  2. Retail sale of household consumer products necessary to maintain the safety and sanitation of residences and businesses
  3. Pharmacies/chemists and retailers providing pharmaceuticals, pharmaceutical or dispensing services
  4. Retail sale of selling medical and orthopaedic goods in specialised stores
  5. Fuel stations and heating fuel providers
  6. Retail sale of essential items for the health and welfare of animals, including animal feed and medicines, animal food, pet food and animal supplies including bedding
  7. Laundries and dry cleaners
  8. Banks, post offices and Credit Unions
  9. Retail sale of safety supply stores (work clothes, personal protective equipment, for example)

It's all good. I'm thankful I and loved ones are symptom free. Team I work with are symptom free and we check in every day with each other. I was first told Isolate until April 2nd then advised April 4th. So a week to go. Thanks all for your well wishes. We are fine here and following all protocols.

Okay. Noting April 4th.
We will celebrate!

It's interesting that the second wave of the 1918 Spanish flu (misnamed) was the worst but it was the third wave of the swine flu that was the worst.
"While the global pandemic lasted for two years, the vast majority of deaths were packed into three especially cruel months in the fall of 1918. Historians now believe that the fatal severity of the Spanish flu’s “second wave” was caused by a mutated virus spread by wartime troop movements."

From your link:

<snip> Dr. Knut M. Wittkowski, the former chief biostatistician and epidemiologist at Rockefeller University Hospital, told The Post he was not practicing social distancing and said he regularly goes to one of two illicit restaurants secretly operating in his Upper East Side neighborhood.

“Yesterday I went to my favorite speakeasy and had dinner,” he said, saying there were about eight others dining alongside him. He declined to name the establishment.

MOO: Find the establishment/s (he states there are 2x on the UES) and all the violators and fine/charge them asap

MOO but their tune will change when they all start getting sick and needing ICU beds that may not be there. Then their idea of isolating the old and letting the virus run its course will not sound so good.

Thanks so much Henry. I wasn't going to say anything but I am home on Isolation. I was notified Thursday of exposure to positive result folks. I was exposed March 19th. I am well as is my Husband. No symptoms at all. Health Unit here has been amazing with support thru calls. I dont want to worry anyone as we are fine and going to be fine. Husband and I are keeping apart for the duration. He is at the front of the house and I am at the back lol

May I ask if you were notified by the health department doing contact tracing (GOOD if so for your area) MOO

Godspeed for you and yours

The point is there are 10,000 pending tests in Ontario with possible community transmission. Sounds like not many Canadians are happy about this, as they should not be.

Louisiana might make a start by shuttering the pastor who is defying the governor's order of 50 people. Bring out the police, as was done to a bar in Cincinnati.
