o_O Of course, I understand the desire to get out, but if there's one thing this pandemic has impressed upon me, it's that I will absolutely reduce my exposure to crowds and public venues going forward. Over the course of my life, I've been fortunate to travel to wonderful places, attend many rock concerts, Broadway and community theater, taken frequent day trips via public transit to NYC, and have regularly dined out with a large group of friends. I have no plans to return to any of these activities for a very long time, if ever. I still have a couple of hobbies that provide a social outlet and that I'll continue to pursue, but home is now where my heart is.
I said the same weeks ago. Fortunately, we traveled non stop, my husband spent more time out of the country than in. I can think of no place I need to go from here on out, if it involves crowds. We all know what goes on in public venues & behind the scenes. Ex: I can be at a casino & be the only female in a huge restroom that washes my hands. So, those that don’t run back to their slot machines, smoke, eat, drink, etc., spreading cooties thru out. Guys I hang with said the same thing is true in the men’s bathrooms.
As far as fast food establishments, they are not my fave, never have been. Hotels, planes & cruise ships sound most unpleasant. We know the comforter/bedspreads rarely get changed. My head won’t be touching a pillow used last night by someone else. Just too nasty to consider.

New York City will bury coronavirus victims in public parks in 10-body trenches if the relentless death toll keeps climbing as officials warn the pandemic is like 'an ongoing 9/11' for medical examiners

New York City is planning on temporarily burying coronavirus victims in public parks | Daily Mail Online

I really hope and pray this can be avoided.

Reminds me of the yellow fever in Philadelphia during the 1700s. There were mass graves all over the city, over 5,000 died in 1793. No telling where those graves are now. I used to toy with my spookier friends by telling them they might be living over a mass grave - and they might have been. Death, dying and disease are no strangers to mankind. I guess it's how you deal with it.

Child abuse hotline calls drop after schools close

Darn, those pesky, nosey teachers! Making calls to CPS about abused and neglected children. All of those calls are down, now that children are being "Homeschooled".
I made at least 5 calls a week when I taught. Teachers fall into the mandatory group to report. I worry about what some children are going through during this crisis.

I find this attack by teens on an Asian woman disturbingly ignorant. But I imagine they hear their parents and others call it the “China virus” and speak disparagingly of China and by extension Chinese people. As the song from the musical ‘South Pacific” says of children “You’ve got to be taught to hate and fear...you’ve got to be taught to be afraid of people whose eyes are oddly made...you’ve got to be carefully taught.” Although some justify calling this the “China virus” because it originated in China, that unnecessary generality only serves to perpetuate fear and scapegoating toward any who look Asian as happened in this shameful incident. JMO, but I would hope that decent people would feel the same.

Teen girls were charged with hate crimes after police said they attacked a woman on a New York bus, made "anti-Asian statements" toward her and told her she caused coronavirus.

Police said the four suspects attacked the 51-year-old victim on an MTA bus in the Bronx. They called her a expletive, said she caused coronavirus and asked her why she wasn't wearing a mask, NYPD Lt. Thomas Antonetti told CNN.
One of the suspects struck the woman's head with an umbrella before all four of them fled the bus, police said.

Disgusting little brats.
4 teens roaming around are quite likely to be spreading the virus themselves IMO.

My biggest concern right now, is what happens when we say we are “open again”. Will employees be expected to start hopping on flights across the country/world again, millions reconvene in tight work spaces, companies hold large conferences and employee meetings bringing together employees across the country or world? Will casinos fill again, public pools overflow, and families hold huge celebration cook outs and gatherings? Will our sudden behaviors of “getting back to normal” be the flood gate that takes this pandemic to the next level/phase?

Yep, moo. Very worried about it.

Italy

Italy today saw a sharp drop in new coronavirus cases with 3,599 recorded, the lowest rise in nearly three weeks, but daily deaths climbed by another 100.

Rome tallied another 636 deaths on Monday, compared with a rise of 525 yesterday, bringing its total death toll to 16,523, the highest in the world.

The total number of confirmed cases increased by 3,599 to 132,547, the lowest daily rise since March 17, underscoring hopes that the illness might be on the retreat thanks to a nationwide lockdown introduced on March 9.

Before Monday, daily increases since March 17 had all been in a range of 4,050 to 6,557.

Oh wow. They also moved up the peak date for Oregon after they shipped off so many of their ventilators to NY. It used to be May 6 and now it is April 21. Yikes!

I’m not sure exactly how that source arrives at this new date. I don’t think it has to do with actual cases peaking at the new date, but involves resources available or needed peaking at an earlier date. This source still lists May 3. I will keep an eye on this.

The coronavirus outbreak won't peak in every state at once

Cuomo was just questioned about burying COVID bodies in NYC parks, and stated that he has heard nothing. He has heard a lot of wild rumors, but has NOT heard that...He talked to NYC yesterday and he has not heard that this is an issue!
Yes. I believe Daily Mail was the source for that? 'Nuff said. Sensationalist tripe.

Wonder if people living in densely populated areas now will want to move to more rural areas when this over.

Indeed. Additionally, any thoughts I had about moving into the city are gone. There was a time I was considering it, all the restaurants, bars, public transportation...No more. I’ll stay right here out in the burbs and country, thank you. Moo

It’s not just deaths in hospitals which are up. On an average day before this crisis there were 20-25 deaths at home in NYC. Now in the midst of this pandemic the number is 200-215. *Every day*.

A typical hospital morgue might hold 15 bodies. Those are now all full. So OCME has sent out 80 refrigerated trailers to hospitals around the city. Each trailer can hold 100 bodies. These are now mostly full too. Some hospitals have had to add a 2nd or even a 3rd trailer.

Seems like they should add another column to CV death rates using those extra deaths because they are likely due to CV.

Day 1? Where have they been?
We got regular course work since we self quarantined our family a month ago. The last 2 weeks was supplemental work when our districts state wide closed and it was all review work. Today starts distant learning by having face to face class time on goggle classroom with their teachers for 3 to 4 hours a day for graded material. April 13th is the deadline in Oregon for all distant learning to be put in place. I stated all this many threads ago.....

I have been disturbed by the idea that a ventilator is "magical" and once a person is off one, they are alive and good to go. I have worked with children who were on ventilators, many recovered, with brain damage, vision loss, significant gross and find motor delays.

People should be informed that maybe, they don't want to be on a ventilator.
