IIRC, the virus doesn't live long on porous items like fabric. Personally, I still prefer to shop for clothing and shoes in person. Sizes and quality online are so unpredictable, as is delivery. Some clothing I ordered online took over a month to arrive, then was the wrong size and very cheaply made. Even some well known brands like Ralph Lauren, etc. have become low-quality, not sure if that's just the items sold online.
It might not matter if the virus lives on clothing or not....it matters if the consumers are worried about it.

Retailers need to make changes to assure and convince consumers it's safe to shop.

I really, really don't want to pull clothes over my head that someone else has just tried on or returned after purchase.

I thought you meant custom-made clothing - where you pick out a style and fabric, provide measurements. I'd like to keep the work in the USA, but we don't have the skilled work force in enough numbers....and American consumers won't pay the cost for that, imo.

Maybe home ec and sewing will become popular again.

I heard coverage about retail clothing that anything clothing returned will have to sit in for 2 weeks before being offered for sale again. Honestly, the more I think about clothes shopping, the more I want to stay away.

I was in Italy in the 1980s and needed a shirt. I went into a shop, surprised to find all the shirts in cabinets behind the counter. I could pick a style, be measured and provided the shirt style that was associated with those measurements. No returns.

I think it's time to change the rules. You touch, you buy ensures that people are serious about their purchase.

My daughter's husband normally does the weekly shopping. She noticed that he overspent twice. She decided to take charge, did the shopping, and spent more than her husband. Prices went up.

Protect the pets! They might be secretly keeping us sane during weeks of isolation.
Protect the pets is right. Has anyone else noticed a change in their pets' habits? Mine are more vocal and demanding.....i.e. let's have more conversations and playtimes.

I live alone and now spend more time on my back porch. My next door neighbor who hears my voice more than in "normal times" mentioned that he thought I had a frequent "visitor".
I told him "that's me talking to the cats". So, he said "If you need someone to talk to, let me know". GROAN!

This morning I saw a neighbor talking to her cat, it was obvious that she thought her cat understood her... I came… | Haha funny, Funny signs, Funny texts

Have you got a link? I thought it only came from people coughing (in airborne particles) or from surfaces.

Jury is out, but it seems quite likely that corpses can contain virus.

"SARS-CoV-2 (the proper name for the coronavirus responsible for COVID-19) can remain infectious on different surfaces for varying amounts of time.

"So, it would be possible that the virus could persist and remain infectious in or on the body of someone who has died," says Dr. Ilan Schwartz, infectious disease specialist and assistant professor at the University of Alberta.

During the first SARS outbreak in 2003, data suggested the virus could remain infectious in bodily fluids such as blood, urine and feces for 72 to 96 hours , says Jason Kindrachuk, microbiologist and assistant professor at the University of Manitoba."

This makes zero sense. It isn’t like Covid is going anywhere any time soon. Ugh...
Yeah.

David Muir interviewed Trump on ABC Nightly News tonight and asked him about this and many other questions. He’s a good interviewer. If you are on the west coast you can catch it later. He will also have more of the interview on Nightline tonight.

Yeah, I guess it goes to reason that corpses contain the virus, but how many of us in first world countries are exposed to corpses? It's the walking, talking, coughing, unmasked in my personal space that terrify me.

I see what you're saying - that type of shopping is here in the States already. My DH buys is dress clothes that way.

I've never seen women's departments with that type of shopping.

I'm still hoping for the 1920s look to make a comeback - simple, easy to fit, fun.

Not that long ago, bodies were removed from where they died (except murder) in caskets. Now they are removed in refrigerator trucks. Something has changed.

Clear as mud. From the link:

"The official said the task force 'will be phased down around Memorial Day. We will continue to have key medical experts advising (President Donald Trump) daily and accessible to press throughout the coming months ahead.'"
Bottom line, IMO, is they plan to quit giving us regular updates as soon as possible. This will backfire, as we will simply rely more and more on the information our governors give us.

I think that this was the way that women shopped in Italy in the 1980s too, especially for professional clothing. Today, clothing shops are a free for all with clothing tried on, selfied, and tossed on the floor of the change room. It's not a bad thing for some protocols to be implemented for hygiene reasons.

Flapper dresses?

The corpses are infectious. There have been some cases with medical examiners getting infected, apparently from dead bodies.
Have you got a link? I thought it only came from people coughing (in airborne particles) or from surfaces.
"Researchers believe a medical examiner in Thailand is the first person to die from the coronavirus after contracting it from a corpse."

Yeah, I wonder if the disbanding of the task force is to stop the flow of information? I hope nobody had to sign an agreement when joining that task force that prevents them from talking once their job on the task force ends.

I get why the rich care but some of the comments I see on places like Twitter and so on who seem to jump on any bandwagon and are stupid and think this is a conspiracy. Money is all well and good but no point to it if you are dead.

I rely on my county health department and governor the most as it is. While I look at global stats, I am interested in how my county and state are holding up. Jmo

Retracted or otherwise ... dead people excrete, so handling infected corpses could lead to infection.
