I have several cowlicks, so there are weird bits going this way and that, but I have to admit- it does feel so good and honestly, I don't have much vanity left in me these days ;)
You can always start out by going shorter, then shorter beyond that, to get a feel as to how you might like it. Hair always grows and hats can come in handy, too! It's not like I've been going out to restaurants, parties, or shopping lately, lol.

I don't care what anyone looks like these days, including myself!

I know it's frustrating Mimosa. Yesterday we did a porch visit for Mothers Day early with MIL. She feels she will get a haircut very soon. We have been upset over her neighbour across the street. She comes over and sits 6 ft. away but it is enclosed back porch. Brings her 6 pack and stays a few hrs. Uses her bathroom. We don't even use her bathroom and this gal is a Pharmacy Tech working full time. We keep telling her to tell her walk across the street to your own bathroom!! MIL says I sanitize after she leaves. I wish people would be more considerate of elderly. She doesn't want us saying anything to the neighbour. Sigh.....

And people wonder why those are who say they are isolating are still ending up in the hospital.

I want desperately to go back to normal, but I was just realizing this morning that I will not feel safe in the craft groups I was attending pre-pandemic for a long time. (The realization made me very cranky.) I have a few like-minded friends that I won't mind getting together with on an outdoor patio where we can keep our distance, but that's about it at this point. Otherwise, it's grocery shopping, online shopping, and an occasional trip to the park this summer if I can find one that isn't overrun. I am not a warrior, and I am quite willing to wait and see what happens to those who have a higher risk tolerance than me.

You want your mask with no gaps and close to your face. Hers seems to have a lot of gaps between the mask and her face.

She explains in the video that she moved where she was putting the buttons so they are more behind the ears and the mask will fit better. The image shown as the default image is the one that doesn't fit as well because the buttons are too high. That video was just the first example I found with a search but I have seen many of these type of things in the news. Another option for protecting your ears is to switch to the type of mask you tie the straps behind your head. MOO.

I am feeling very hopeless tonight. I'm having the feeling that this virus will never end.....

Hey, @Squinchy, it really is hard to stay optimistic. It is going to go on for a long time, but by the end of the year, it's going to be much better, for many reasons. I don't know where you live, of course, but I'm glad you are here on WS, which is such a great community.

I’m not sure what to say when my friends (and even some family members) keep saying “We can’t wait to get together in a few weeks when this is all over”!

What the heck is going to change in 2-3 weeks? My parents will no longer be at risk? I can go out, do whatever I want and not have to worry I’ve brought it back to them?
I can tell the company that terminated my contract that I’m willing to fly 5-6 times a month again to perform my job?

I’m getting a lot of grief over my stance of protecting my elderly and health compromised family members.

Sorry if OT. Caregiving is love and getting flack has made me pissy today. So I’m going to make a drink, take a break and enjoy the beautiful weather with the birds chirping and wind lightly blowing through the trees.
Total confusion between "peak" and "over," and I do not believe such early opening is helping the definitions.

Life in senior apartments.
My girlfriend's 91 year old mother lives in a nice senior resident facility. Staff greets everyone at the front door. Apartments open from inside, making it ultra-safe. There is a commons area, now completely unused, as well as an unused dining area. The exercise room is closed. The library is closed. At one time there were programs and buses that took residents grocery shopping, dinner, plays, concerts, malls, etc., and there were performers that came to the facility, but that has all stopped. Seniors are encouraged to stay inside their apartment, not congregate, and not leave unless absolutely necessary. There is an outside patio where they can go, wearing a mask, but it's been too chilly. Visitors are only allowed in emergencies. Residents get a nightly meal delivered to their apartment.

My girlfriend phones her mother, but it's not the same, and only staff can access her mother's physical or mental needs. My friend wonders if many residents really understand what's going on with the virus. This has to be such a negative way to spend final years.

Yes. It's very sad: either a death sentence if they open contact or depression, anxiety and accelerating dementia if people have to stay isolated.

I am so grateful that no one close to me is in care right now. My parents and parents-in-law are all deceased. My mother-in-law, who died in June 2018, required memory care in her last few years. Fortunately, the family found a great facility for her that was owned by the sister-in-law of one of my brothers-in-law. My MIL loved seeing people, even when she didn't recognize them, until the very end.

After my friend related her mother's senior apartment situation (previous post), I thought about the current graduation classes. Their lives are just beginning, and they have the ability to move around anywhere and make their own decisions. So, they miss a prom and a graduation. Life will move forward to schools, jobs, marriage, children. Aged persons have limited options. Guess IMO it's, "Suck it up, graduating seniors. Things could be much worse than missing a graduation."

I have had a day now and then where it does feel helpless for the entire day. I wake up the next morning and wonder what was wrong with me to feel so negative. Thing is to enjoy each day that you have for now. Do something new - just for fun.

I got new toys today - find a creative outlet

Good job, @otto. I have to tell you that one thing you wrote keeps me smiling every time I'm feeling down and that was your statement about how your kids feel when they stare at a division symbol.

I look forward to seeing your art. My husband bought me an alto saxophone for my birthday. I used to play. And we dug out all the old sheet music and it turns out, I can remember how to sight read. Our two dogs sit next to my music stand and howl their little hearts out while I play.

I admire your intent to paint. Makes me want to get the sketchpad out. I hope you are well today and look forward to seeing your paintings! As long as it's fun, it will be art.

Thank you Cody. I just had a new grandbaby on Thursday. I'm hoping to meet her today on Zoom. But I so very much wish I could hold her, cradle her wee head in my hand, and smell her sweet newness.

For some weird reason, I find the protest in Victoria more disturbing than those in the US. I guess it pulls the rug out on my idealistic dream that there are no covidiots in Australia.

Maybe we could use some of those cruise ships to house these folks who brazenly put others at risk. And they did it right under the sign that reads, "Thank you to all of Victoria's front line workers". Sheesh!

Congrats! Let us know how the Zoom meeting went.

no one was allowed to visit him in the hospital except bear the end they allowed my Mom in a couple of times
he died overnight so no one was with him and the nurses called when they discovered
thank you, lots of good memories for sure, like when he 'taught' me to drive a tractor sitting on his lap lol
In writing my reply to you yesterday, bittersweet memories flooded my mind, heart and soul. I’ve been thinking of you so much since. I am so sorry for your profound loss. Remember always, your dad now resides in your heart.
Keep his memory alive. He will never leave you.

Boris Johnson is about to tell the UK what are next steps are:

Coronavirus updates: Boris Johnson to update nation on lockdown - BBC News

Just copying what I think are the best bits.

Johnson: People should be ‘actively encouraged’ to go to work
Boris Johnson says, as there is more to do, “this is not the time simply to end the lockdown this week”, and instead, he says the government is taking “the first careful steps to modify our measures”.

First up is going to work. The PM says people have been told to work from home if they can, but says: “We now need to stress that anyone who can’t work from home, for instance those in construction or manufacturing, should be actively encouraged to go to work.”

He says he wants it to be safe for those employees, so calls on people to “avoid public transport if at all possible”, adding: “We must and will maintain social distancing, and capacity will therefore be limited.”

The PM says: “So, work from home if you can, but you should go to work if you can’t work from home.”

He also says the government has been working to establish new guidance for employers to make workplaces safe - or “COVID-secure”.

BREAKINGJohnson announces ‘unlimited exercise’
Boris Johnson says the next step from Wednesday will be to “encourage people to take more and even unlimited amounts of outdoor exercise”.

He says: “You can sit in the sun in your local park, you can drive to other destinations, you can even play sports but only with members of your own household.”

But he warns people “must obey the rules on social distancing” and to enforce them, the fines police can give out will be increased.

Johnson says, “with ever increasing data” and being able to track progress, “if we as a nation begin to fulfil the conditions I have set out, then in the next few weeks and months we may be able to go further.”

BREAKINGSchools back June 1 'at earliest'
Schools will return on June 1 "at the earliest", with primary schools returning first, says Boris Johnson.

Johnson: ‘Some hospitality places’ could open in July
Boris Johnson says the next step could be to re-open “at least some of the hospitality industry and other public places” at the earliest by July.

He is tentative, however, saying it is “subject to all these conditions and further scientific advice”, and adding that it would only happen “if and only if the numbers support it”.

But, “provided they are safe and enforce social distancing”, the government hopes to take the step

Plan 'will get us through second phase

Boris Johnson pays tribute to the efforts of the country so far, praising the “patience and common sense” of the nation.

He describes the elderly as having shown “fortitude”, saying he wants to be able to end their isolation “as fast as we can”.
After praising the “bravery and hard work” of NHS staff and care workers, he also thanks other essential workers including the police, bus drivers and bin collectors, as well as the scientists working to get a vaccine.

He says “millions of everyday acts of kindness and thoughtfulness” have helped get us through the first phase, and we can use “this plan to get us through the next”.

I know I posted this early in but in case anyone missed it. If you are wearing a mask at work etc. and have to take it off to travel, eat etc. keep a tupperware container with you. Drill holes in the lid. Remove mask by strings and lay it in tupperware without touching it. Leave the strings on the outside and snap lid on. If you need to put it back on take off lid and put it on by the strings. Great way to travel home with it as well. Simply toss it in your washer by the strings and wash tupperware in hot soapy water or disinfect.

thanks good advice, much appreciated

I. Think you nailed it.

I'm aware different masks have different levels of protection but I consider the point of all masks to be mainly to protect others. Having any mask on is better than no mask. Plus, everyone wearing masks alone won't totally help if people don't also stay 6 feet apart. The mask is only one part of the equation. Maybe people in my area don't get that? Maybe they think it's safe to approach me if I have a mask on? Is that why the non-mask people are coming close to me?
