Same here in southern England. But what I cant get my head round, is if it was covid 19 why didn't the number of cases rocket like they did in March? Thats the conundrum for me. Hmmmm
The more people got infected the more the vulnerable caught it and got hospitalised then the deaths began in March. Some deaths before that were not possibly even recorded as CV19.

If your glasses are fogging up, then the mask is not properly fitted to your face. There should not be any gaps at the top for the air to escape and fog up your glasses. You need to adjust how you are wearing it or try a different mask (as you already figured out). I do agree they are very hot after an extended time and I've tried several different kinds. The surgical ones seem to be the coolest temp wise and easiest to breathe through for me but my DH likes the N-95 ones better. Good luck finding one that works well for you.

MOO.
Surgical masks are mostly about protecting others from you. They will work well, only if everybody else is wearing a mask. N-95 are the ones that protect you from the others (and the others from you, unless they are valved). I find the valved kind easy to wear because they allow you to breathe.

I don't know whether we're near each other. I thought you were just making a general statement.

I won't wear a mask for a lot of different reasons. First, I don't think it is necessary or helps. Especially the homemade masks lots of people are wearing. Which leads to the second reason, which is that I don't like the idea of being forced to do something by the govt for no good reason (or even for a pretty good reason, in most cases lol). The third reason is similar, and it's that I won't be shamed into doing something because other people have decided it's what I should be doing, if I disagree with them. Fourth, I don't tolerate breathing behind a mask very well. I don't like the feel of it and it's very inconvenient in a lot of situations. And last, I'm not afraid of catching this at all. I just mentioned elsewhere, I'm pretty sure I've already had it and it was no big deal for me. To be clear, I'm not trying to tell those who are fearful and/or vulnerable what to do.

You asked! lol Thanks for not calling names :)

Thank you. I appreciate a thought out response.

I've been voluntarily wearing one myself. Just to be considerate around here and to be my usual grumpily compliant self. I'm one of those "is this the hill I want to die on" type of people in a disagreement. I'm not really fearful.

My employer had shut down for 5 weeks. We're open now and masks are required. I don't have breathing trouble until I'm moving freight. But anyone moving freight is huffing and puffing.

After less than 2 weeks, one of my ears is breaking down. That's fun of course. I have to remedy that today somehow.

Anyway, thanks for the reply. :)

(I know you weren't asking me but anyway) One of the reasons I won't wear a mask unless it is mandated is that I have seen no evidence it works for the gen pop as we are continually touching and fiddling with it therefore infecting it with our hands. I think the full PPE for health service employees who are in the front line dealing with infected patients is a priority however.

As I said before I would consider wearing a face shield if it was an alternative, because it protects the eyes too and can easily be washed.

At this point, I would love a face shield!

I've got myself broke of touching my face and mask when I'm out and about.

You know your comments are welcome. :)

I'd be so happy if only all people would actually abide by the 6 ft rule. Only the mask wearers in my area seem to be staying 6 ft away. The people who are not wearing masks come right up to me in a store and I end up having to move quickly away after they come within inches of me. I have to use my cart to keep physical distance between me and the person behind me in a checkout line. I want to wear a big sign that says "STAY BACK 6 FT", but it probably wouldn't help. Sometimes I wonder if the non mask wearers are really oblivious to what is going on or if they get some sort of sick satisfaction in torturing the people wearing masks. Apparently they don't understand they could be actively spreading Covid19 and thereby killing people by their irresponsible actions. Or maybe they do know and don't care? Every time I leave the house I vow to stay home longer, but the longest I can go between grocery visits is 2 weeks. *sigh*:(
The stores I go in now have the circles on the floor for people to stand on at the checkouts which makes it quite clear where to stand. Mostly everyone is abiding by it. Each time I go back they have made it more clear to customers.

Face shield is not to replace the mask, it's an addition to the mask. If you look at health workers wearing face shields, they also wear a mask. Face shield offers splash protection, but it doesn't seal your face like N95 mask does.

I've half calmly showed a couple of strangers my "Hoosiers, united we stand, 6 feet apart" shirt. "Did you see these awesome dare to care fundraiser shirts"? *beam* Snarky looks to me but they backed off lol.

Some of the more than 1.7 million Pennsylvanians who have filed for unemployment since the coronavirus pandemic began may get a chance to join a new civilian workforce program to help the state conduct mitigation efforts.

Gov. Tom Wolf announced his plan for a “Commonwealth Civilian Coronavirus Corps” at last Wednesday’s daily press briefing. The name is reminiscent of a popular program under President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s Depression-era New Deal, which focuses on preservation of state parks and forests.
...
Wolf said he’s angling for a broad program to train workers to test for COVID-19 and conduct contact tracing to track infection rates, while also reducing unemployment.
...
The civilian corps may involve an element of public-private partnership, the administration said in a news release.

To “recruit and train COVID-19-impacted dislocated and unemployed workers into public service for contact tracing roles,” Wolf’s press office says the administration plans to work with existing health training programs and the federal AmeriCorps program, among others.

I've wondered the same. I can almost contact trace in my head the people who had it in my town (and were verbal about it). They run in the same circles. I know most of them were tested for the normal stuff and told "well mystery virus". Jmo

I'm aware different masks have different levels of protection but I consider the point of all masks to be mainly to protect others. Having any mask on is better than no mask. Plus, everyone wearing masks alone won't totally help if people don't also stay 6 feet apart. The mask is only one part of the equation. Maybe people in my area don't get that? Maybe they think it's safe to approach me if I have a mask on? Is that why the non-mask people are coming close to me? o_O

Well, I am definitely going to wear a mask. And I ordered me some swim goggles. I am in a very high risk category.

You may want to order some face shields too. I know we'll all look like literal Space Cadets in our new gear, but be assured that you won't be alone. Also, a neck gaiter or whatever they are called - as an extra layer over the mask if you're going some place like a doctor's office or anywhere that you think is especially risky or even just when it's cold. Face shields are on back order for a month at Amazon, but it would still be worth getting one, because this isn't going away any time.

Cold, dry weather lets viruses float around more, bears repeating. So the face shields will be helpful next fall and winter.

Is the ear issue due to your mask? If so use a large paper clip to fasten the strings to, in middle back of your head. It will keep it off your ears. Some folks I know are using the plastic monkeys from the barrel of monkeys game lol

They also sell special gadgets called "ear saver" for that purpose.

No, thank you! Being able to civilly resolve misunderstandings and discuss both sides of an issue is so vitally important, imo.

Your post made me wonder whether your employer's mandate actually takes your health into account. I would think that breathing your own carbon dioxide for hours at a time is unhealthy for anyone, but breathing it whilst exerting yourself can't be good, imo. Be careful!

Yes, it is. I put my mask on and my left ear looks like I'm related to Dumbo the Elephant. My other ear can't be far behind lol.

Yep, we are going to look like aliens from out of space. Mask, goggles, face shield.
Oh well...

I haven't seen those but I'll google it. Maybe someone could invent an alarm or verbal warning that goes off if others get too close? That would really get snarky looks but I bet it would also make them jump away. LOL. (I'm only partly kidding :p )
