Frisch said he didn't take the virus seriously until now. He wants others to not wait until it's too late.

"I was one of those 'Oh I don't need a mask, masks don't work, the social distancing thing is stupid,'" he said. "No, that is completely wrong."

BBM and that's why we can't stop the spread IMO- I feel terrible for him losing his only daughter but it is good to see the attitude change now.
'Shame on you': Florida woman, 26, dies of COVID-19 after hospital didn't test her for coronavirus, family says
This area of Florida is very anti-mask to the point they are only “encouraging” children to wear masks when they return to school, not mandating it. :( Meanwhile, this woman was suffering for weeks and possibly infecting countless customers at a convenience store and nobody blinked an eye. RIP Desi.

Of course not.

Hopefully you are coming at this from a parental angle. Most avoid their child getting sick and infecting other children. Isolate for chickenpox, isolate for measles, keep them home if they are ill with the flu, rush them to the doctors when their fevers spike, don't let them have a playdate with little Johnnie if Johnie is unwell but bored ....

There will be, hopefully, a safer time when covid is under control. You guys do plan - as a nation - in getting covid under control, don't you? Because sometimes I wonder exactly what direction the US is headed in.
Are Australian kids still off school or have some territories gone back? What is the thought there? Our schools in UK are scheduled to go back in August and September but if parents want to keep them off school, they won't be fined.

Here are results of some US polls.

Despite stress of closures, most parents wary of rush to return to school buildings, polls show

So glad to hear the good news. With young kids it is so important to get speedy doctor emergency appointments. They can get sick or unwell so quickly. What a happy face now.

Is anyone concerned about "fairness" in terms of closures and some people's ability to escape them? Everything "indoors" in California is supposed to be closed, but the tribal casinos are packed. New York residents who have the means are able to travel to States/Countries that are way more "open," and then come home when everyone else has crushed the virus through lock down.

I'm fortunate enough to live in an area where one has a choice, but I think I'd be quite cross if I didn't and my neighbor did. Although, to be honest, I really did feel "better" when the lock down compelled me to live a healthier lifestyle. Hopefully tomorrow brings us better news.

Speaking of fairness for all citizens .... does anyone know what the US plan is for fighting the virus? The one that is going to help citizens all reach the same goal?

I have been looking and looking but I can't seem to find the united plan to combat the virus.

I can see there will be a televised interview on Sunday, on Fox News, where it is said that masks won't be mandated because a certain freedom is desired for the people. The economy must be re-ignited. Schools must re-open. Is that the plan to counter the virus?

SF Health Director says average age of COVID patients at SF hospital is 41: 'We are all at risk'

The coronavirus has surged locally in the Bay Area in the last two weeks, prompted in part by residents' "complacency," as San Francisco Mayor London Breed stated. A big factor in the spread of the virus during that time frame has been people taking part in gatherings with those outside of their homes, often unmasked. She cited one example involving a disaster services worker in the city, whose roommate went camping with more than a dozen people and contracted the virus, endangering the city worker. (The worker, she added, fortunately went on to test negative.)

A little bit of, hopefully, positive news ....

The University of Oxford candidate, led by Sarah Gilbert, might be through human trials in September. AstraZeneca has lined up agreements to produce 2 billion doses. Could this be the one?

Gilbert has voiced remarkable confidence in her chances, saying the Oxford vaccine has an 80% probability of being effective in stopping people who are exposed to the novel coronavirus from developing Covid-19. She has said she could know by September.

“It doesn’t need to cure you. … We want a vaccine to stop people from going to hospital and dying. If you can do that, I think people will be pretty happy”

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan: Bollywood actress and her eight-year-old daughter 'admitted to hospital' with COVID-19

Indian actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and her young daughter have been admitted to hospital after testing positive for COVID-19 earlier this week.

The 46-year-old Bollywood star and former Miss World and eight-year-old Aaradhya, who had been self-isolating at home, are being treated at Mumbai's Nanavati Hospital, Indian news agency ANI reported.

It comes just days after her actor husband Abhishek Bachchan, 44, and 77-year-old father-in-law Amitabh Bachchan - a Bollywood legend - were admitted to hospital after testing positive for COVID-19, the disease caused by coronavirus.

It comes just days after her actor husband Abhishek Bachchan, 44, and 77-year-old father-in-law Amitabh Bachchan - a Bollywood legend - were admitted to hospital after testing positive for COVID-19, the disease caused by coronavirus.

Amitabh Bachchan - who previously appeared in a public health advert in India urging people to take the virus seriously - is understood to be in an isolation unit.

Kids can get sick from other illness from going to school and interacting with other children.

Does that mean we should eliminate schools forever?
There are some children whose only meal everyday is their school lunch. There are others who are being abused at home and their only hope is someone at school reporting the abuse. Reports of abuse dropped significantly after schools closed and it wasn't because abuse wasn't occurring anymore. Young children will be left at home with no supervision if they're not in school. What about those kids?

I am very concerned about this testing situation.

This needs to be taken seriously and is CORE to fighting this virus.

We are losing this fight more and more every day imo.

We can not afford to downplay the importance of testing, and efficient processing.

My heart breaks more and more every day as I see us declining rapidly, for reasons that we don’t even need to be. Sure there are going to be challenges with the huge demand; however, we have to WANT and really actively TRY to improve the situation. And respect it for what it is.

I saw in China early on, and posted, about the initial long testing lines. One guy said he was sick and waited in line for so long he finally went home.

There are so many dangers if someone is asymptomatic, needs to get a test, but it is very inconvenient or unattainable, so they may blow it off.

Again, the effect of long testing turnaround times on contact tracing is devastating to this essential tool for fighting this virus.

Heart is so heavy. Hugs to everyone.

Unless testing is coordinated nationally by the Federal Government (as it should be but isn't), i don't see the horrible testing situation changing. The United States of America is conducting itself like a third world country. There is no getting around that. As you pointed out, if the testing situation remains as it is, we are in very very deep trouble.

Unfortunately, we have read the higher risks of disadvantaged children catching the virus as well .....

I think we can pick apart any scheme, but the heart of the matter is to first quell the virus with some kind of united plan. imo

Due to the lack of resources to prepare and protect against the coronavirus, the poor face a higher risk of contracting and subsequently spreading the virus. Under international human rights law, the government has an obligation to protect people’s right to an adequate standard of living, which includes ensuring adequate food and nutrition, the highest attainable standard of health, and social security.

And until that happens, and no one knows how long that will be, these neglected and abused children will be helpless with no one to look out for them. That's not much of a plan IMO

Quite honestly, I am not seeing any united plan to quell the virus - despite looking in as many places as I can find.

I think you hit the nail on the head: the heart of the matter is to first quell the virus with some kind of united plan. The problem we have had, and why the virus has spread so exponentially is because some states re-opened before quelling of the virus.

Another week, another round of good news from the CDC’s weekly surveillance review.

COVIDView, Key Updates for Week 28

“Based on death certificate data, the percentage of deaths attributed to pneumonia, influenza or COVID-19 (PIC) decreased from 8.1% during week 27 to 6.4% during week 28, representing the twelfth week of a declining percentage of deaths due to PIC.”

“Nationwide during week 28, 1.4% of patient visits reported through ILINet were due to ILI. This percentage is well below the national baseline of 2.4%.” It’s also nowhere near the percentages earlier this year.

percent-ili-visits.gif

“Nationwide during week 28, 3.5% of emergency department visits captured in NSSP were due to CLI and 1.1% were due to ILI. In comparison to week 27, this week there was a slight decrease in the percentage of visits for CLI and ILI remained steady.”

Hospitalization rate for COCID-19 fell to the lowest it’s been since March.

<modsnip> Businesses making it mandatory to wear masks to shop in their stores, restaurants and movie theaters being required to operate at a fraction of capacity, markings on the floor for social distancing, ramping up of testing, scientists working tirelessly on a vaccine, sporting events and large gatherings being cancelled. That's not helping to quell the virus?

I have been wondering the same thing. Why would the power go out due to covid?
And if the power does go out due to winter storms, surely there will still be workers to fix the problem?
Covid is not affecting everyone with the same levels of severity.
I think people are worried about buying and stocking up on freezer foods then losing it in a power cut. Not sure why they are worried about power cuts but perhaps because of hurricane season approaching. MOO

<modsnip> It is not a united plan. It is extremely fractured. Too many gaps for the virus to sneak through.

Lace masks, no masks, rallies, parties, unrestricted travel ... the list goes on.

'Live with it' ... until/if a vaccine ever appears.
