Hit me hard too, L. Dead over a haircut.
I actually shaved all of mine off September 5th!
Sick of trying to to do the home hair color etc...
It didn't use to be a problem, then the grey started sneaking in.
The hair color reacted different.
My friend since 1987, was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer and began chemo for the 4th time.
I figured what the heck! I'll shave my head, Elaine will have a bald buddy and no one will ever really know as we have been self isolating since April anyway!
COVID isn't going away anytime soon.
There is actually a trend of people doing this.
Who knew??
Now, my natural untreated hair is salt and pepper and is almost 3 inches long.
HOWEVER....
I look like a cha, cha, cha, CHIA PET!
It's standing straight up!
Covid hair, don't care!!!
No way am I going to a salon anytime soon.
I'll look like Howie Mandel from the late 70's in a few weeks.
Ha!
MOO

Notice that Texas blip at :33: . That is lookin “California-ish”, imo, wrt to “JH orange radiuses”. Thankfully, there’s a lot of land in Texas and people are spread out, compared to the density of SoCal.

Eta:
Ugh, and Arizona.

In October 2019 .... a chart was published that ranked 195 countries according to their capacity to deal with outbreaks of infectious disease.

Drawn up by the Washington DC-based Nuclear Threat Initiative and the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security in Baltimore, Maryland, the 2019 Global Health Security Index (GHSI) placed the US and UK first and second, respectively.

South Korea came ninth, New Zealand 35th and China 51st, while a number of African countries brought up the rear.

The UK and the US need to learn from countries that better handled Covid-19 | Laura Spinney

They did everything right. But after one at-home haircut, a husband and wife died of Covid-19 — CNN

“Mike and Carol Bruno did everything right to avoid Covid-19. They refrained from hosting the big, traditional family gatherings they were used to. They stuck to phone calls and video conferences with family even though they didn't live far away.

But a simple family visit to get a haircut claimed both of their lives. “

“In late November, Bruno's mother, Carol Bruno, came over to his apartment with his sister so his sister could give him a haircut. Prior to the visit, his sister, who works in a salon, had taken a Covid-19 test which had come back negative. She had also quarantined for three to four days — a sign the family took to mean that it was safe to be around her.

His mother, on the other hand, hadn't been out much during the pandemic at all.”

“Throughout the visit, which lasted about 40 minutes, the Brunos wore masks and avoided hugs, Bruno explained. They also made sure their mother sat next to the windows which they had opened as an extra precaution.

A day after the visit, Bruno's sister started displaying symptoms of Covid-19. Mother and son started feeling unwell soon after. “

Aren’t you supposed to quarantine for longer than 3-4 days?

A haircut at home isn’t any safer than going to the salon!

And the mom rode with the sister after being careful for so many months.....
:(
All for a haircut, tragic.

The amount of times I've had conversations with my mum about her hair not being important! Only after the shock of how brutally the virus killed my aunt does she finally understand what I've been trying to say. I say pin it back, order colour online, just let it grow out.... Her hairdresser comes to her home, maybe three times since March. Sensible lady but has a school age kid and every time she visited I worried. On one occasion she was unwell with a "heavy cold" but didn't want to let my mum down!! I intervened at that point and said no, just no. So stressful where people see priorities and justify them, in my mum's case.

Congressman-elect Luke Letlow has died after being hospitalized with COVID-19

Congressman elect Luke Letlow from Louisiana has died from Covid- he was only 41 years old

My gosh. Rest in peace.

He announced on Friday December 18 that he had tested positive.

From Thursday December 10, 2020:

Letlow is planning to travel to Washington, D.C. this week with his wife, Julia, to attend the White House Christmas Party.

Letlow outlines priorities once sworn-in as 5th District Congressman

So many risky, silly events all over the country that could have been modified to be safer, or just postponed. Hope his wife is okay, apart from the grief, of course...

I wonder if this is the same Christmas party I saw videos of - there was little mask wearing, they were crammed close together, and there was actually coughing heard in the background which was creepy.

Holding an indoor party during a pandemic when people are suffering and dying, our economy is suffering, hospitals are overloaded...

:(

What is the count of possible positive cases from attending that event?
How many were hospitalized?
How many died? ( so far)
I'm trying to find out!

Trump keeps holding White House holiday parties despite CDC warnings against indoor gatherings
Dec. 9, 2020

“Despite top health experts warning Americans against holding indoor in-person gatherings during the holidays, President Donald Trump has continued to brush those concerns aside, defending holding White House parties this month amid daily record numbers of COVID-19 cases and deaths.”

MassGOP official thinks he got COVID-19 at White House Hannukah party | Boston.com

“"Well, let's put it this way: When I went down to Washington, D.C., for the White House Hanukkah event, I was perfectly fine," he told WJAR. "And three days later after that event, I was in the hospital at Brigham and Women's ready to be put on a lifesaving ventilator."“

hmmm, “3 days...ventilator?“ Maybe he had covid before the party.

COVID-19: 'Majority of new cases in UK are new variant,' says health secretary

The new, faster-spreading coronavirus variant makes up the majority of new cases in the UK, Health Secretary Matt Hancock has told Sky News.

A recent surge of COVID-19 cases is largely due to the variant which may be up to 70% more infectious than the original one, Mr Hancock said.

"The 'suppress the virus' bit has got a whole lot harder since the new variant really got going over December," he said.

That's incredibly sad. I found the Kaiser article they're citing, and they feature a wall of faces so we can see who has died. It's worth checking out. It's sobering, to say the least. One thing that strikes me as I look at the victims is that many of them (not all) fit the description of being obese. We already know being obese puts a person at a higher risk, so I'm wondering if we'll see a push toward people getting into better shape?

well, that is enlightening information: i think we can conclude he most likely contracted the virus at that Xmas party. He made a fatal foolish decision to do so and it cost him his life. I just don't understand why people are not understanding how dangerous such behavior is. SMH

Biden said in this above post that he may invoke the DPA (Defense Production Act), going back for wording. Also, he emphasized PPE for healthcare workers.

This action should have been taken at the beginning of the pandemic. Don't get me started at the horrendous fail of this administration and it continues with failing to getting the vaccine out to actual vaccinating the people.

An official in the Massachusetts Republican State Committee believes he got COVID-19 at the White House Hanukkah party he attended earlier this month.

...

“No one can ever say for sure exactly where they got it, but I’ll say this: Before the party, I was in perfectly good health,” Tom Mountain, the vice chairman for MassGOP, told The Boston Globe this weekend. “Three days later, I was in the hospital with COVID, and it was all downhill from there.

“I didn’t listen to the warnings of my own family, and now I’m paying the price,” he told the Globe. He said he’s been hospitalized at Brigham and Women’s twice for the virus this month and almost had to be put on a ventilator both times.

Mountain told WCVB that before getting the virus, he felt as though he was “invincible” and didn’t think he needed to wear a mask all the time. Since he got COVID, four people in his family, including his wife and son, have tested positive for the virus. He said he’s still recovering with moderate symptoms at his home.

“I have to admit I wasn’t the most careful about wearing the face masks,” Mountain told the Globe, “but now I’m zealous about it. I have no doubt about their necessity.”

It's just so awful that this man, this government leader, simply brushed off all the information, guidelines and warnings until the virus settled in his own lungs. Even the deaths of some of his colleagues didn't have any affect on his behaviour.

It's sobering to know that there are millions of others who also have the same lack of comprehension.

Sorry that this has to be posted, but it's likely the truth.

The first few months of 2021 in the US are going to be much harder than the entire year of 2020. Every doctor knows this. You deserve to be told. #COVID19 #pandemic 9:08 AM · Dec 29, 2020

Not long ago the daily deaths peaked mid January. No more. The peak keeps moving out each update

I wonder how often they'll be updating these projections now with IHME

History will not look kindly on this period of time that we are in the midst of a pandemic: from the monumental failure of this administration, to the initial failure of the CDC, <modsnip: No MSM to substantiate this information stated as fact> to the citizens of the United States, too many of whom refused restrictions that could help contain the virus, to those who flaunted

They are discussing his death on the Today show: not one person mentioned he attended that Xmas party at the white house. They mentioned that he was young with no underlying medical conditions. There is an article at Fox News that also does not mention he attended that Xmas party. That is the kind of fractured news we get.

COVID-19: Essex declares 'major incident' over surging coronavirus cases

A "major incident" has been declared in Essex as the surging number of coronavirus cases threatens to overwhelm health services.

The announcement is in response to a "significant growing demand" on hospitals across the county and is set to enable local leaders to seek further government support, the Essex Resilience Forum (ERF) said.

Hospital bosses in Southend and Basildon have made a plea for any clinical staff who are on annual leave to return to work immediately to relieve the pressure.
