In February, my city is opening a dedicated facility for covid positive people. Anyone who tests positive for covid will stay there (probably until they test negative a couple of times).
The entire hotel is being leased by our state govt strictly for this purpose. I imagine it will only contain covid positive returned travellers, until we have another outbreak.

Brand new Adelaide hotel Tom’s Court has been selected as South Australia’s dedicated COVID-19 facility to start from February …. all new positive COVID-19 cases will be transferred to the facility when it becomes operational.

“Tom’s Court is a brand-new, 72-bed facility that includes four rooms with apartment style facilities suitable to accommodate families and two purpose-built disability suites.

“Many of the rooms have balconies and opening windows which can provide fresh air to the rooms.
“The central location also allows for a rapid transfer to the Royal Adelaide Hospital should it be required."

Tom’s Court will be exclusively staffed by SA Health and SAPOL (police) for nursing and security purposes.

“COVID-19 isn’t going away any time soon and we are committed to putting as many shields as possible between the virus and the South Australian community for as long as it takes.”

New dedicated COVID-19 medi-hotel facility announced

FACT. 493 Deaths for Covid in the population of 3.46 million people in San Diego, California.
FACT. This equates to .0009%.
FACT. All restaurants, including mine are shut down.

Interesting to compare other sites in the country, and their health department pages (SD is at https://www.sandiegocounty.gov/cont...Epidemiology/COVID-19_Daily_Status_Update.pdf) . Your dashboard has so much information compared to my county, and impressive contact tracing.

My county is at 0.069% cumulative rate of deaths

I get with your numbers (493/3,460,000) x 100 = 0.014% Am I doing the math wrong?

.....although the above link for San Diego County health department says deaths on last page are 1,534 which would be (1,534/3,460,000) x 100 = 0.044% cumulative rate vs. your calculation of 0.0009%.

@KALI, so sorry that your restaurant is so affected, and for such a long period.

Five hospitals declare 'internal disaster' after facing shortage of oxygen to treat patients | Daily Mail Online

At least five hospitals in Los Angeles County declared an 'internal disaster,' resulting in them turning away all ambulance traffic

I'm not sure that other areas of the country have this type of information (this one was created in late 2019 and has come in handy for COVID reasons) that shows status, and if they are doing ER/ICU/CCU etc diversions and shut downs. Lots of red these days as to severe situations.

Someone here posted this previously, thanks.

Interesting discussion that UK has decided to ????off label??? have 3 months between first and second dose for vaccine.

He says looking at data on Oxford vaccine, Dr. Campbell agrees with this as first dose keeps folks out of the hospital which is most important right now at first, and then delay to give "better" immunity. He thinks that they should do this with the Pfizer vaccine also.

ETA: Looking forward to January 4th Youtube with Dr. Campbell and Dr. Seheult from MedCram. No time yet announced for the release, but 1,208 questions/comments they are soliciting for their feed that day at https://www.youtube.com/post/UgztzMxKI_1i4AmPIrV4AaABCQ

But, Margarita do you have any idea why someone would do that? Someone who was trained in all the right ways, would somehow ignore his training and do this?

People seem to be losing their ever loving minds is my best guess. This past year has brought out the worst and brought out the crazy in so many people. I'm just blown away by it. It's a cesspit of fear, paranoia and conspiracy. That is the only reason I can see for this.

People are convinced this is all part of some vast evil and malevolent plan and they feel they have to fight and resist.....fight and resist the efforts to protect themselves or others health and lives. And they believe it with absolute religious fervor. And sadly many of these people are in the medical field....

Where I live (in Arizona), the decisions about what can be open or is ordered to close, as well as other aspects, are made by the governor
So I understand what you are saying

COVID-19: Hundreds fined over New Year's Eve parties as coronavirus rules ignored

Police have broken up scores of parties across England and issued hundreds of fines as people ignored orders to stay in and celebrate New Year at home.

Gatherings were broken up from Lancashire to Brighton, while in Essex officers had objects thrown at them by a crowd of hundreds at a disused church.

Police said most people had complied with the rules, but assistant chief constable Andy Prophet said others had "decided to blatantly flout the coronavirus rules and... decided that partying was more important than protecting other people".

That is something my county doesn't have yet. I do so much appreciate folks sharing what they see their health departments doing. I cannot fathom the overload they are ALL having at this time as they have not been perhaps positioned nor funded for such. Being in the trenches in a health department must be so so so hard... perhaps they are wanting to scream for resources and funding to the press. I cannot fathom those folks in the trenches. (Post focusing on them, not discounting others)

MOO

I wonder if my health department will start doing such a report on vaccines by county.

Again. So stretched and having to create a website to capture all of that is $$$ and time and resources to even do. They must have been prepared, kudos they have done.

Complicated websites take so much time, and the data gathering and input... jeez

Daily Mail Online has an article with the picture/name of the pharmacist that was booked on the same charges listed in previous articles. Can I link this article even though the police did not release his name previously or is this against the rules of the site?

I agree with you - where I live in Arizona, the decisions about what can be open or is ordered to close, as well as other aspects, are made by the governor
So I know what you are saying

Sincere question: Isn’t the Governor the one who is responsible for deciding (with advice from public health professionals) what can be open or closed? Perhaps I don’t understand your comment. If I have, disregard my comment. :)

My sincere opinion: Businesses that are affected may not like the governor’s decisions, for understandable reasons, and feel that choices are unfair, but abdication of responsibility by a governor would be cowardly, irresponsible and not in the best interests of the health and even lives of their constituents IMO. I’m very grateful that the Governor of Oregon has been doing her level best to keep the population safe while balancing economic considerations for small businesses, all the while facing angry armed demonstrations at the state capitol, open rebellion by certain legislators while in session, and recall petitions. At least goons have not plotted to kidnap and kill her...that I know of...yet. But despite her best efforts, lack of cooperation by too many citizens is fueling the spread of COVID-19.

My small town of 22,000 has two main employers upon whom smaller businesses depend for their livelihood. One, a nationally known repertory theatre company, has been closed since March and will not reopen in 2021. Longtime employees...friends of mine...have been laid off. About 350,000 visitors per year will not show up. Restaurants, hotels and other businesses dependent on visitors may not survive. The other employer is a small state university campus running at reduced capacity and staff. The taxes paid by all these businesses support city services. There was a $6 million dollar shortfall estimated in 2020. The economy and character of my town may not recover.

BUT...We are in a state of war against this pandemic and the death toll has been unnecessarily high already. During any war, businesses are rightly called upon to make sacrifices. Some may not survive. That is a heartbreaking tragedy. But no business can survive or rebuild if its owners and employees are dead or too sick to work. All citizens have to sacrifice to win this war. We sacrifice our personal desires like visits with family and friends, gathering with our congregations, eating in our favorite restaurants, travel, finances, attending school in person and on and on. Is the sacrifice worth it? I believe it is. I feel sorry for anyone who lives in a state or country whose leaders don’t believe these sacrifices are worth it. They are essentially saying their citizens’ lives aren’t worth it.

Yes, DM is accepted link at WS.

His name is in other places also.

Caution though?? dunno??? as to TOS stating the name in a post vs initials or just giving the link perhaps is always prudent at WS. Using initials is usually ok in a post when in doubt with the MSM link vs. typing out the name in a post? Best to do the link only if in question early on without either?

ETA: I have linked the reference you mentioned here. The person/mugshot has not been named by LE, but MSM has figured it out due to the charges are so unique.

was arrested on three felonies - reckless endangerment, adulterating a prescription drug and criminal damage to property.

He is also a licensed pharmacist in the state of Wisconsin.
. so they drilled down and found and published the attached link.

Again, police have NOT yet to confirm afaik

Re: my comment about understanding

I was agreeing that decisions made by govenors, to me, have a political component

What Arizona's governor is deciding is completely different than governors in California or Colorado for example

It's just my view

Edited to add:
I could exchange the word political for values & beliefs, and maybe I should have done that

Anthony Fauci, called on the federal government on Thursday to deploy more resources to vaccinate Americans after the country missed its goal to get 20 million people inoculated by the end of the year.

More than 14m vaccine doses had been distributed in the US, but only 2.1 million people have been vaccinated

Overworked, underfunded state public health departments are scrambling to patch together plans for administering vaccines. Counties and hospitals have taken different approaches, leading to long lines, confusion, frustration and jammed phone lines.

Jha said ..... the Department of Health and Human Services, has set states up to fail.
“There’s a lot states still need to do,” he said. “But you need a much more active role from the federal government than what they have been willing to do. They’ve largely said to states, ‘This is your responsibility. Figure it out.”"

James McCarthy, the chief physician executive at Memorial Hermann in Houston, said the hospital system there had administered about half of the roughly 30,000 doses that it has received since 15 December.
The system had to create a complicated plan from scratch.
“We can’t just hand it out like candy,” McCarthy said.

Fauci calls for extra resources as US misses Covid vaccination target

Whatever happened to the "mission" of the Department of Veterans Affairs, that the VA hospital, clinics, and resources are available in emergencies for civilians? It is a bloated money hole, we should get at least some use from it....

Noted that the VA hospitals and clinics have been barely available for Veterans during the pandemic!

Interesting. Because in Montana, the governor has provided leadership, but it is really the local county health departments that have the enforcement authority. Not the executive branch. Here, the local health department has been very vigilant, to the dismay of many local businesses.

I keep reminding myself that the priority has to be to survive this thing

SSA field offices have been closed since March of last year. If you need to do a name change, correction, etc - you can mail in a form plus multiple documents to include your drivers license and your passport. Originals.
Photo copies are not accepted.

Forget calling, it’s like the IRS.

I can’t get my DL renewed online, tried multiple times and website says I have to make an appointment when the office reopens.
Geez, who knows when that will be.

Yep, my new grandson, born in May, never received his social security card, which is required for insurance. Daughter-in-law spent the longest time trying to get a human to understand that she couldn't tell them his social security number because they'd never received it. Finally had to send in the multiple documents, including his birth certificate and her passport. During the time when we were hearing all about the US Mail being slow and losing things. Took about six weeks and they finally got it last week.
