‘You cannot predict how it will affect you': 21-year-old's COVID warning
In the week he was due to receive his first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, Jett Stanton returned a positive test. The next night, he was in a hospital bed.
The 21-year-old semi-professional skateboarder from Liverpool, in Sydney's south-west, said he had "no idea" the virus - which he had tried to avoid in a hot spot area by staying home - would affect him so drastically.
"I can't stress enough, regardless of how healthy and young you are, you cannot predict how [COVID-19] will affect you."
In a widely shared Instagram post, Mr Stanton warned his 3000 followers - with whom he usually shares footage of skateboarding tricks and details of upcoming shows - to not buy into misinformation about the virus.
"COVID is NOT a joke and is not to be played with," he wrote. "It is not the government trying to control you and I can 100 per cent assure you this is not a flu like some of you say it is."
