Yale announces reward for missing student

Police are searching for Annie Le, 24, who was last seen outside a Yale School of Medicine building. Authorities in Connecticut are reviewing security camera footage, examining Le's computer and checking blueprints of the building, according to Yale spokeswoman Dorie Baker.

"The State Police have searched the area of Ms. Le's last known appearance with their bloodhounds; law enforcement officers are continuing to undertake detailed searches of the surrounding area; and security officials are reviewing images from closed-circuit cameras in the area," the letter said.

Several media outlets reported that her fiance, Jonathan Widawsky, is a graduate student at Columbia University in New York. Widawsky could not be immediately reached.

Thanks, Angel~ Bless your heart with two eye infections and still here doing your "job"!! You are so dedicated. :blowkiss: Feel better soon!

This case reminds me of the one in California where the female student with excellent grades and lots of pressure supposedly committed suicide by getting into the trunk of her car where she was eventually found.

The pressure with the wedding and her studies make for a case of going off the deep end. People don't realize the stress these students put on themselves to excel and with the wedding on top of everything else...could the class being canceled have created a meltdown? You have to maintain a certain discipline to be in such a program and it could have thrown her plans into a tailspin. Ducking out of a side door without a camera would be the most logical exit for someone used to being there daily if she left on her own.

Have they mentioned her car and where it was parked?

It appears to me she is holding a large open book with some paperwork underneath it. She could be transferring it to the other arm or she is possibly trying not to drop it as it is perched precariously in her arms.

Investigators outside the laboratory where a missing Yale University student worked have driven away from the scene with a man they were questioning.
Two agents were seen questioning the man just before 10:30 a.m. Saturday outside the lab where 24-year-old Annie Le was last seen. When they finished talking, the man got in the front seat of the unmarked car and 1 of the agents got in the back seat. The car then drove away.

University Vice President and Secretary Linda Lorimer shot down reports this morning that the authorities believe a professor may be involved in the disappearance of Annie Le MED ’13.
The New York Daily News, citing an anonymous police source, reported today that police questioned an unnamed Yale professor on Friday after learning he canceled his class on Tuesday around the time Le went missing. The New York Post published a similar article, citing a report on the Fox affiliate WTIC-TV in Hartford, and the stories have quickly spread around the Web.

No record of her ever leaving the building and now a Professor is being questioned. Doesn't sound so good for this poor little lady does it?

More than 100 local, state and federal law enforcement personnel were involved in the investigation into Tuesday's disappearance of Annie Le, said Yale spokesman Tom Conroy.

Investigators were examining footage from some 75 cameras on and around the building where Le was last spotted. They did not immediately find any footage of her leaving the building.

"They are going frame by frame, looking at every image," Conroy said.

They also examined blueprints of the building to make sure no places were missed in their search, and examined Le's e-mails and her computer, he said.

There continues to be no evidence of foul play, Conroy said.

Annie Le, 24, has been missing since Tuesday, September 8. She is supposed to be getting married on Sunday.

Professor questioned by police in case of missing Yale student Annie Le
Saturday, September 12th 2009, 4:00 AM
<snipped>
Cops questioned a Yale professor Friday in the case of a graduate student who went missing just days before her New York wedding, a police source told the Daily News.

Annie Le, a 24-year-old doctoral student in pharmacology, was supposed to attend the professor's class on Tuesday afternoon.

But the class was abruptly canceled - and hours later, Le was discovered missing.

The sudden cancellation near the time when Le is believed to have disappeared aroused suspicions among law enforcement, a New Haven police source said.

It was unclear what class was canceled or if the professor is a suspect. Yale officials would not comment, and a police spokesperson did not return calls.

Meanwhile, family members canceled her wedding, which was set for tomorrow morning on Long Island.

"The wedding is off," a supervisor at the North Ritz Club in Syosset said. "A family member called and canceled it."

Amistad Building Facts

The Amistad Street Building was constructed on a site conducive to the use of public and alternative transportation. The building is served regularly by buses from both Yale and the city of New Haven. Its proximity to the Union Street Train Station makes it easy for commuters to arrive by train, rather than personal vehicle. Bike rack and shower access encourage employees to bike to work. In addition, many amenities are located within walking distance, allowing for easy access throughout each workday.

Storm water is collected from the roof and stored in a 7,500 gallon tank. This water is treated non-chemically and then used in the building’s grey water system, to flush toilets and provide irrigation. This practice not only conserves potable water, but also reduces the amount of runoff entering New Haven’s storm water system.

About two hours later, around 12:15 p.m., a man in a blue shirt got into a car with a man wearing a New Haven police jacket. That car also drove off.
It was not immediately clear who the men are, and what their connection is to the disappearance of Le.

Le was due to marry her fiance Jonathan Widawsky Sunday, leading to questions about whether the 24-year-old pharmacology student had gotten cold feet and ran away or whether she was the victim of foul play.

In an exclusive interview with "Good Morning America," a friend of Le's who came to New York to attend the wedding said the bride-to-be was excited about getting married and would not have run off to avoid the wedding.

This class that was canceled - there was some comments previously that she taught or assisted with teaching? Might the class have been canceled because she was nowhere to be found, and the professor simply didn't want to teach it himself? Or was this a class that she was attending strictly as a student?

I have read that she is a Teaching Assistant in that Tuesday afternoon class.

And -- many thanks to posters for that up-to-date information on police activity in the area this morning! Very interesting!

Well, that is certainly to be expected. Yale does not want negative publicity. They will back that professor to the hilt if he is arrested and then they will most likely provide him with a legal team.

According to this article, she missed a pathology class where she was a teaching assistant. There is no mention of the class being canceled.

I wish the school would clarify which class was canceled.

I have read that she is a Teaching Assistant in that Tuesday afternoon class.

If that's the case, it wouldn't surprise me if the professor was planning to have her teach the class, and canceled when she couldn't be found. Or, she might have had reference/teaching materials needed for the class?

Angel Who Cares..You are an Angel for posting all the videos & links..Thanks so much! :blowkiss:

Today, so far, we know a professor or another man (?) may possibly be involved..That is some progress at least..I still believe the fire alarm plays a role no matter what LE says..I just read the story re: woman found in duct..They even checked landfill (in PA?) where the trash is dumped within 4 days..LE did this yesterday outside the lab but where else? Unless the trash was not removed since Tuesday? That is hard to believe especially since it contains ?? from the research center..A poster (?) wonders if that really is Annie & now I wonder too cos of the clothes..This Asian woman is dressed very dowdy-ish & that is not her style from the many pix of Annie I have seen..Maybe it is not her & she never made it to the lab..As far as I know it has never been confirmed by anyone there but it could be we just have not heard.

A fire alarm that sounded in the Amistad Street facility at 12:40 p.m. on Tuesday is thought to have been a false alarm, Highsmith said, though she acknowledged that it could be difficult to pick out Le, who is 4’11” and weighs some 90 pounds, in the footage of the evacuation. Highsmith also said it is possible that Le changed into a lab coat while in the building, which would make it even harder to identify her.

http://www.yaledailynews.com/news/u...o-suspects-students-disappearance-police-say/ BBM

So basically they do not know if she left during the evacuation or not. Since it was during lunchtime, it is possible she left the area to go eat. They may not be finding her because they don't have the right location to begin their search. They should be canvassing every place she is known to go on breaks or lunch to check out those cameras. They should be checking all other cameras in the area those locations to see if they can spot her walking.

I still find the obvious false fire alarm and the timing of her disappearance more than a coincidence. If a person wanted to create a distraction, it would be perfect. People are ordered to leave the building and they go out in a large number instead of individually.

I picked up on this also when catching up on this case. I also noticed that Ms. Le is a very pretty girl with a great figure, sense of style, highly intelligent and with a beautiful life and future ahead of her. I can see someone, male or female, getting obsessed with her. One article I read stated that she "did not feel safe in New Haven" wonder if this means something. Sorry I did not provide a link, I have just read 13 pages of posts to catch up an I think I read this on a New York Post link about Ms. Le's mom.
