More at link below. I grew up in Burlington. It is a very small town and this is the first uid case I am aware of that's taken place here. The area where she was found, Upson Rd. is a dirt road off of busy Route 4. It's private property and was blocked off to public access at one point by cinder blocks (not sure if it still is). On Upson Rd is the notorious Seventh Day Baptist aka. Green Lady Cemetery. This cemetery is rumored to be haunted, and unfortunately has fallen victim to extreme vandalism. Few if any stones still stand, and many wild parties took place there. I visited it once about 15 years ago, and it felt like something out of a horror movie. There was recent evidence of satanic activity; someone had drawn a pentagram on the ground in the cemetery in what appeared to be blood. As I stated before, the area is private property and you will be prosecuted if you trespass (it is now very heavily patrolled by police). Hope this case is solved quickly, although the police are asking for the public's help with the id so it's doubtful they have any idea who this poor lady is:

More info about the cemetery:

Ironically, Elizabeth Palmiter, the lady that is rumored to haunt the cemetery supposedly drowned in a nearby swamp, but there is no factual evidence to prove this.

Oh Wow.

I know exactly where that is, used to visit that cemetery many many years ago. Yes, there was one gravestone there plus half of another. I read someone stole Palmiter's headstone back in 2010:

I have some photos of that cemetery somewhere. The old camp at the end of Upson Rd, the nearby old city landfill on the same road just south of the cemetery. The story of the Green Lady intrigued me.

Here is a map of the area - this is probably the pond I am thinking where she was found:

IIRC Upson is an unpaved road. It leads from Rt 4 over to Covey where that camp is and the whole stretch of the road is fairly isolated, with the deep woods.

Also, that cemetery could be visited during the day, but at night, watch out, it was patrolled by LE.

I remember rumors of satanic rituals and activity taking place.

I believe there were about 70 some odd graves at that cemetery, and not a single headstone has survived. :banghead:

WTH is wrong with some people?

I hope this woman is ID'd soon.

Thank-you for the additional info Mary. I was just looking for the pond myself on Google Earth. It is very brackish; blends right in with the trees. It appears the cinder blocks have been removed from the access points to the road as well. IMO such an odd place for a body to be found under non-suspicious circumstances; not super-close to houses. It will be interesting to find out what happened to this poor lady. Yes, Elizabeth's stone was stolen in 2010 and I've never heard that it was recovered or that they caught the people that took it. The Cemetery was in use from about 1780 to 1883 and there were about 35 known burials there according to findagrave: https://old.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gsr&GScid=2171048

You're very welcome.

I was born and raised in Bristol, to your immediate south.

I wonder how her body was found, who found it?

There is only one small house at the corner of Upson and Rt 4, have no idea if someone still lives there.

I ran a quick Google search and could not find anyone locally missing from that area with said description.

I live in Bristol now too!! That house at the end of Upson seems to be under perpetual construction. I don't think anyone has lived there for quite some time. I'll check Namus later to see if I find any possibilities.

Sorry, what state are we talking about here?

Found this fast enough in my photos, Elisabeth Palmiter's headstone which was stolen in 2010:

@ carbuff sorry for the confusion. I'd like to edit the title to make it less confusing, but I'm not sure if I still can.

@ Mary I know the City of New Britain owns the camp and the land the cemetery's on. I'm not sure about the pond and woods between it and the high school, but I'd say it's highly probable the town of Burlington owns at least some given its location between the landfill and the school. I went to school at Harbur then at LSM. Even though that landfill hadn't been used in a very long time I could still smell it when on the LSM athletic fields when the wind was blowing just right. I do know of at least one instance where a student got lost in those woods for several hours and was found in that vicinity unharmed.

I looked in Namus for missing women in CT and surrounding states with that tattoo and didn't come up with anything. The tattoo is the only identifier we have, so it's too early to do much effective searching. Hopefully LE will release more details soon.

Following. Hope she is identified soon.

Is there some sort of river or stream in this area? I remember going to swim someone near here, unless I am confusing it with a different place. i just remember there were big rocks along both sides of the stream/river. There were spots where the water pooled up and got deep enough for people get in and cool off. I could be totally mistaken though.

Do you mean Farmington River?

Do you mean Farmington River?

I don't know what river it would have been (meaning the name). You had to follow a path to get to the spot. t guess it would probably be considered a swimming hole. Can you get to a place like that from anywhere on Upson Road? This would have been close to thirty years ago so my memory could be off.

I believe this is the place. It is called Burlington Falls and you have to go on Covey Rd., which can be accessed at the end of Upson, to get there.

What a pretty area!

I saw Bunnell Brook on the Google map at the link below:

https://www.google.com/maps/place/C...a905d60fb265c3!8m2!3d41.7840411!4d-72.9685709

I have never walked into that area, thinking someone owned it.

Thank you for sharing those pictures.

The one waterfall I remember best in that area was the one at Sessions off Rt 69. Used to hike in there a lot, as well as do the Tunxis Trail which covered a large area. The land there is so nice. That is the one thing I miss most about Connecticut.

I could not find any updates on this case today. I know the autopsy results will take at least a few days to come back. I did however do some more research on the area and found a packet of historical Burlington town articles dating back to the 18th century. This is a LONG document; ignore the table of contents as it's not accurate. On pg. 22 is an old article about the origins of the legend of the Green Lady from 1976. The Warrens visited the cemetery and could find no evidence of paranormal activity, and the cemetery had pretty much been destroyed by that time. There is also info on the Seventh Day Baptists on pgs. 53, 59 and 67: https://www.burlingtonct.us/sites/burlingtonct/files/uploads/burlington_articles_of_the_past.pdf

There's also some info on the Upson family that the road was named after. I still need to read that.

The Seventh Day Baptists were despised by other town residents due to their differences in worship and some of those buried in the cemetery supposedly met untimely demises at the hands of others that were meant to look like accidental deaths:

https://old.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GScid=2171048&GRid=37697864&

I found a photo of Jared Covey's gravestone. It's supposedly intact. I'll bet this is the stone mentioned in the Green Lady article above (although the death year was apparently erroneously stated as 1802):

https://old.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GScid=2171048&GRid=102269850&

I sort of found what I was looking for - and more information about that cemetery, but with a big shock:

Old Cemetery Must Go Before New Reservoir

The Hartford Courant, May 23, 1915

Look at the date on it! 1915!

Well at least there is a picture with what appears to be the majority of standing headstones.

I wonder where Covey's headstone is? Looks like the side of a garage or storage?

Quite honestly, I wonder if that HC article is the background for rumors of it being haunted. IIRC the Green Lady story started at some point in the 1970's, but nearby descendents of the generation who lived during 1915 may have remembered it.

I'll have to look further and see if I can find anything else on that cemetery.
