According to an Instagram post by AU Senator-at-large Kaden Ouimet, Estrada told his friends he would return by Thursday night. Estrada’s friends have been unable to contact him since roughly 4 p.m. Thursday.

In an email to the student body, AU Student Government provided physical details about Estrada, including height, weight, hair and eye color. Estrada is 5’ 4” with brown eyes and dark brown hair and is estimated to be between 120-130 lbs.

I know this area well. It’s largely upscale and residential and considered safe, at least compared to some other areas of the city. Am understanding correctly that he was last seen near Wagshal’s at 4:43 PM but his last known location was in Rockville less than an hour later? Was he driving? Metro?

...According to social media posts made by the man's roommate, Kris Emmanuel Estrada was last seen Thursday near a well-known Northwest, D.C. grocery store.

In an Instagram post Sunday, Estrada's roommate said he was last seen in person near Wagshal’s grocery store on New Mexico Avenue NW around 4:30 p.m. Thursday. His last reported location was in Rockville, Maryland on that same day one hour prior.

[...]

According to friends, as of late Sunday evening, Estrada is yet to be found. If you have any information about Estrada's wherabouts call American University Police or DC Police.

American University Vice President and Chief Communications Officer Matthew Bennett provided the following statement to WUSA9:

“We are working to obtain more information about reports of a student potentially being missing. AUPD and Student Affairs activated our protocols according to the Missing Student Notification policy and are actively working to collect information and determine the facts of the matter prior.

Super - it's always helpful for local input on a thread.

I hope he's located safe today.
Do I have this correct: he was with friends on Thursday afternoon and said he'd be home Thursday night but never arrived?
If so, key will obviously be where he was going next after separating from friends.

I think this is very concerning and wonder about how he perceived things were going with his studies.

I wonder what he had with him. Anything that could be tracked -- laptop, cell phone, Smart watch, vehicle, etc?

MOO, but I’m guessing that the Rockville location might have been from Find My or a device location. The phrasing of him being “last seen in person” in DC, with a last known location in MD, makes me think that. Interesting distinction.

I could have missed a mention of something else that would establish location without him being actually seen/witnessed (like cameras, visitor records, etc), though.

Estrada’s friends are asking anyone with information about his whereabouts to contact the AU Police Department at (202) 885-2527. SG also asked students to contact AUPD or other listed contacts with any information they may have.

Vice President of Student Affairs Raymond Ou and Assistant Vice President of University Police Service and Emergency Management Phil Morse said they are aware of “unconfirmed reports about a student potentially being missing.” Ou and Morse further added that AUPD and Student Affairs activated protocol according to the Missing Student Notification Policy “to collect information and determine the facts of the matter.”

FWIW I have friends who lived in DC long term and they also confirm that Wagshal's is in a nicer area, apparently not too far from the university. So while of course it's always possible that a random criminal strayed into the area, such a person would probably have been spotted. Also, KE was likely on "home turf" with it being close to the university, and IMO wouldn't easily have gotten lost and wound up in a bad area by accident.

Why was he in Rockville? Who/what was he going to see/do?

Seems he would have mentioned this to someone....
