Even stupider yet - after committing this heinous crime, DW returned home and sat around on the front porch for a few days as usual, per neighbors. Then he began to sense that maybe he should leave town, so he set off to visit a girlfriend in Brooklyn.... and changed his FB location to Brooklyn.

Wow, he truly is a dummy... Makes one wonder how he could pull this off all by himself...

Sometimes it takes a dummy to be bold and aggressive and impulsive. He was all of that, which got him caught because he left evidence behind.

Yeah, I’ve thought that too. It seems like it would take some forethought and cunning to hold four people under your control so thoroughly for so long. Especially given that SS was a martial artist, proud of his skills, and would’ve been defending his wife and helpless child in their own home.

IIRC JW’s father is longtime, well established LE. I’ve always figured those connections kept JW’s name from being dragged through the mud [bbm]as might be expected from someone else caught in a similar scenario. There’s been no reporting that I’ve seen on any of JW’s actions, possessions or whereabouts after the initial investigation. We were told where he & his car were during & right after the crime, and that he then spoke to police. From the moment he left that interview, not a further word on him.

Rumor has it he’s since relocated to CA but apparently there’s no trace of him to be found. Presumably LE concluded he wasn’t involved & was willing to help shield the unfortunate son from life-wrecking bad publicity ? But I guess we may find out more when & if Wint’s trial ever starts.
The first dozen pages of thread would beg to differ! I wouldn't be surprised if JW was in witness protection or similar.. MOO

Judge: Daron Wint's attorneys can argue in court someone else committed DC mansion murders
Fri Aug 3, 2018

WASHINGTON (ABC7) — A judge ruled that attorneys for DC mansion murder suspect Daron Wint are allowed to argue that someone else possibly committed the 2015 killings.

On Friday, the judge in the upcoming proceedings granted Wint's attorneys the chance to argue that the murders were potentially carried out by another person(s). This despite objections from prosecutors in the case.

The judge also said prosecutors will find out what avenue the defense is taking early in the trial.

WASHINGTON - There is new information in the 2015 murders of three members of a wealthy D.C. family and their housekeeper.

Specifically, the document says prosecutors plan to show Wint's typical Facebook "use by hour of the day and compare that use to his use on May 13th and 14th" when Savvas and Amy Savopoulos, their 10-year-old son Philip, and housekeeper Vera Figueroa were murdered inside their Northwest D.C. home.

The document also says the investigation shows one "outgoing" message during the time Wint is accused of holding the four hostages inside their house on Woodland Drive before setting it on fire on May 14, 2015

Hey Seattle!

I cannot remember DC laws, but I assume felony murder in DC is like many other states. If you were there when the murder happened, or they're doing the primary felony, and even though you did not do it, you still can be sentenced for murder. Is that correct?

If so, the prosecutor can slam that red herring right back at the defense. Hopefully people in DC will understand. And hopefully the prosecution has the correct charges so that that can be done.

@dixiegirl1035 - yes, felony murder is still in place in the Nations Capital. (However, looks like CA is considering limiting the law..California considers limiting broad 'felony murder' law)

........Though police said from the start more than one person may have been involved, Wint is the only person charged.

Court documents filed by prosecutors in July raise questions about the way evidence was collected from the crime scene and what may have been missed.

Investigators found a screwdriver holding a window open in the basement of the Savopoulos mansion, according to the court documents. Forensic biologist Emily Head of the ATF "recalls asking that the screwdriver be collected, however, she does not believe it was recovered," the documents say.

Bottles and plastic gloves also were found at the crime scene, but the evidence was never collected because the investigator was told they had been used and left behind by the first-responders and therefore were not relevant to the crime, court documents say.........

Wow! IMO! This gives strong evidence of an accomplice and explains how DW got in the home. Someone working in the home very recently had to of left that window open.
