Your mistaken .... We have NOT all used the "N" word at one time or another nor other derogatory terms.
Its not about being "perfect" Its about not hating others for their race.
It would not even enter into my mind to use the N word.

Thank you, Amraann. There are a lot of words I've said but the N word isn't one of them.

Its about not hating others for their race.

Again, using the N word isn't necessarily about hate. There's a HUGE ignorance factor here. Alot of people use it because they were taught it or picked it up from somewhere. Whether or not the hate that goes along with it was taught is an entirely different issue.

I've never used that word either.

Think of some of the private conversations you've had and ask yourself how you would feel if they had been broadcast to the public - we have ALL used the "n" word at one time or another - among other derogatory terms to describe a person's race, ethnicity, etc....and if by chance there is someone out there who is absolutely perfect and has never uttered a defamatory phrase or word....please tell us how you do it because I want to be perfect too.....

I grew up with a very prejudiced father and hated the way he slurred and categorized people. I have never used the "N" word and have striven to teach my children not to be intolerant of others.

My mother was the same way about Asian people and I had to really work as a child to tune that garbage out. :( Her prejudging started when her brother was killed in Vietnam and it snowballed from there.

I can honestly say that I have never used that word or any other derogatory term to describe someone of another race.
How do I do that? I just don't think in those terms. It was never used in my home growing up and it is not used in my home now.

I am with csds, although I did occasionally hear certain words in my house growing up. But that also made me realize what an ignorant *advertiser censored* my father sounded like when he used those words, and I vowed to never use that kind of hurtful language.

I will agree with you that it is not always used to intone hatred. However, the use of the word like the example posted on this thread ... N rigged...
Does show total ignorance.
How one could use a word that was most clearly used to degrate others is beyond me.
Even in the example given ... its not used in a positive way.. "N rigged" = to half a$$ something.

Much like the word "retarded" is used in a negative way. Usually to imply another is stupid or delayed.
This is not a positive use of the word.
Black people now use the N word as a means of taking it back and thereby erasing its negative meanings.

They are not the only race that has done this.. Hispanics often call each other "spics".
The difference between a white person using the N word or the word Spic and that of someone of that race using it lays in the fact that when a white person uses it ..... it is ALWAYS meant to be a negative thing.

As if NOT being white is negative.... or means your somehow less capable.

Black people now use the N word as a means of taking it back and thereby erasing its negative meanings.

But by "taking it back" they are perpetuating the word's accessability. White kids listen to rap and are undoubtedly learning the word and using it to describe a close friend (for example, "Yeah, he's my "), but because they are white it is perceived to have racial undertones.

I think the best way to dismantle the use and meaning of the word is to encourage EVERYONE of EVERY race to stop using it (blacks included), and if it is used, to not get so angry about it. The media places so much emphasis on the use of this word that they are actually strengthening the meaning, and are even going so far as instigating trouble where there is none, as shown during the whole Don Imus fiasco. Do you think any of these 20 year old Rutger's girls even listened to Don Imus' radio show? Absolutely not! But someone had to point it out to them, and how they should be hurt, and then suddenly you hear disingenuous recantations of how "devastated" they were and how the "healing process" has begun. Give me a break.

The other drawback to the media's attention of the word is that they give unequal weight to it. I fail to see how using the "N" word is quantitatively more racist than a non-white person calling someone "white trash." In my book, it's just as racist. So why doesn't the media report in the news every time a non-white person racially slams a white person in this manner? And if they did, why aren't the ramifications or consequences just as severe such as losing a job or sponsorship?

Now, when I say that we should stop using the word, I don't mean to say we should ban it. Banning a word would set a terrible precedence, and I'm sure most people who have read "1984" can see what I'm getting at.

Excellent points Paladin!!

First off about teens usage of the word "" not the same as the racist white using the term "" (I really did cringe just typing that)
It is two different words one meaning something like "my brother" and the other meaning something totally deragatory based on ones skin tone.

As for people saying "white trash" .... It is most often WHITES saying it and when we do we do mean it in a negative light.
You do not hear to many blacks speaking the N word in a negative light towards their own race as whites do when using the "white trash" term.

The n-word is derived from the Spanish word "negro" meaning black.
We all know that "blacks" are not actually black,
and that "whites" are not actually white.

The one term that applies is "hypocrisy" (DO as I SAY, NOT as I DO)~~
whether it's whites using the term "white trash"
or blacks using the the "n-word."

People can define and redefine words when it suits their purpose, such as
the time Senator Robert Byrd explained on television: There are white <n-words>! but he actually said the word!

Puhleez! No good can come from the use of racial (or sexual) epithets.
Haven't we had enough centuries of racial strife?
It's time to stop passing along this bad language to our children.

No matter what your skin color is, I'm guessing there are people of
other races whom you admire and even consider a "hero" or a "champion."
Let's concentrate on magnifying that and leaving the other behind.

Hello! This is the

century!

I think I heard Dogg is gonna be on Hannity and Colmes tonight at 9:00 pm. EST, either that or tomorrow 11/6 (I'll know for sure in a little over one hour).

There's a clip of their discussion w/Dogg's pastor last Friday @

Oooops ... sorry about that! :cool:
maybe Chapman spells his Dawg?

Anyway, supposedly Sean Hannity and Dawg Chapman will meet in LA tomorrow for an interview, and that interview w/b on H&C at 9:00 pm EST.

p.s. How many times has Snoop Dogg said
the "n-word" in the past, say, two years?! Ya think?!:eek:

I think all the news media, commentaries, etc. need to also quit talking about "welfare teen moms", people on food stamps, young black male violence, gang affilations, and any other comments that they make because it's always geared towards minorities as if there are no white people who are also poor or even in prison. Also, even commercials depicting black people have a much different tone and doing stereotypical actions and mannerisms. Why isn't this considered racist?

so, from reading this thread we've gone from:
  • Dog didn't say those hateful things (story is a fake);
  • the story is true but he didn't actually say what you think you heard (slanted "quotes" posted);
  • he actually said all that, but it's not as hateful as it sounds (who doesn't talk like that);
  • he did use the n-bomb along with assorted other profanity (but those words do not mean what you think they mean);
  • what dog said was vile, but the son is to blame because he's a convicted felon (like his father);
  • what dog said was vile, but it's really the girl friend's fault (she might have recorded him saying the same things);
  • what dog said was vile, but the son is to blame (he recorded his father's racist rant);
  • what dog said was vile, but hey, those rappers sometimes use the n-word (as if those dudes are role models for civil discourse);
  • what dog said was vile, but he shouldn't lose his show ("free speech" and all);
...

I could go on and on, but you get the picture.

In "A Time to Kill", Grisham's character says "you don't see me as a man, you see me as a black man". People like this Dog are like that, they can't judge the character of a person because they cannot see beyond the colour of that person.

This idiot admits that if anyone heard the way they talk at home it would ruin his career, but they just can't help themselves even when visitors are present. Face it, the man’s got nothing against n****rs, it’s just that when there’s n****rs around he's going to say n****r, and he can’t help himself. The creep and his inbred family would still be living in a white trash trailer park if not for that television show.

absolute brilliance......well put and well said. It's not the word that makes him vile, its the attitude behind the word.
For those of yu singing the praises of Dogs captures. He wouldn't hnt for one of them without the huge payout he gets in the end when he turns them in. Luster was dollar signs for Dog, he brouhgt in a pretty fancy reward. Dog wouldn't have looked over on the next block if he hadn't been worth some cash. He's running a business....not saving the world.....bad hair and all.

When we ALL decide that it is History and choose to "forget"....we are moving on with an entire planet. Those who choose to bring it up daily still feel horrible and just want to remind everyone how horrible they feel because of their ancestors. I feel sorrow that my ancestors were ignorant and did horrible things...but I acknowledge their stupidity. However, we are not responsible for it...yet we still are supposed to pay for it....because no one can forgive or forget the past.

Someone will always feel slighted and others will always feel not. It is what happened. This goes into HISTORY BOOKS. Let's teach our children that. We love people for who they are. We can only learn about what our History books say. Let it go.

you do realize that your are expecting people who are still alive to forget things that happened to them not too long ago when you consider the magnitude of those things???? Blacks were still sitting in the back of the bus and drinking from different water fountains when my parents were in highschool and college.They were still considered a less intelligent, less competant, and less valuable group of people in my parents lifetime. They were beaten and threatened if they attempted to vote for petes sake!My parents are only 66 and 67.
Are you kidding me? There are people walking on this planet who were sprayed with freaking fire hoses and attacked by dogs in the streets of Alabama because of the color of their skin!!!!These aren't your freaking ancestors who did these things, these are people walking the streets today who never served a day in jail for the hell they unleashed on people of color!!!!!
No one has a right to tell anyone when and how they should forgive and forget. Mothers who's sons were hung and beaten to death are still alive! little girls who were spit on are now women with their own children and grandchildren. You want to tell them that it was our ancestors who caused the problem and that they should just forget and move on? Racism in this country did not end when the slaves were freed for heavens sake.....there are still counties in many states where blacks are not welcome. Least we forget nooses were hung from a highschool tree 2 years ago.
N*ggr is a word that still holds grave meaning and pain for a huge amount of people in this country. To insinuate that racism is dead and is only a topic because people just can't get over it and move on is to ignore the things that happened in my lifetime and yours.
It is to make light of one of the most embarassing times of this country's history. People need to stop making excuses and see racism for what it is. I hear people all the time say things like "Well I'm from the south and that's just how things are there." That's crapola.....go out on google right now and search the archives and look at the pictures of what was done to people of color in this country less than 40 years ago.....40 years. That's way to soon to forget in my eyes.....way to soon. :confused: :confused: :confused: :confused:

It's been a while since I read that book, but was the character who said that the same one (played by SL Jackson in the movie version) who lay in wait and murdered 3-4 white men, shooting them down in cold blood as they walked down the front steps of a public building?

yeah, he layed in wait and shot them because they got off by an all white jury after raping, torturing and pis*ing on his 7 year old daughter. He obtained justice when the racist judicial system in his town wouldn't do its job.

I didnt recall that they had actually been tried yet, but what the hey ... good old vigilante justice ... makes people like OJ fair game, doesn't it? :angel:

except that this was a fictional story and never would have happened that way in the real world...lol.
In fact the book ends with the young lawyer finding out the only way he actually won was because juror 11 was paid off. They didn't end the movie that way, they wanted to keep it warm and fuzzy like an all white jury in alabama would have actually listened to reason and freed the man.
No way in hell.
not in this country and not yet.
