Drew Peterson to Surrender on Gun Charge

My theory is that JAB knows he is lying. He is creating "resonable doubt" everytime he does. Drew's future jury pool listens and reads the news. A potential juror might hear what JAB has to say but never here's the facts. Alot of people don't always believe the media either.

That is my understanding too. DrewP already has two other attorneys that I think will be his trial attorneys. JAB's sole purpose is to create reasonable doubt as things come up. I think he knows a lot, if not all of the details by now. So when something comes up, he can be prepared to provide another story for it, to create that reasonable doubt. He has done it on big issues as well as small ones.

Tom's Girl posted this last night in the Media thread:

Peterson Hopes Photo Clears Him Of Gun Charge

It's an article about a photo of Drew getting an autograph from John Travolta.

"On Wednesday, Peterson supplied photos to prove he used the gun while on duty as a police officer.

One photo shows Peterson carrying the weapon on duty in 2000 while he was assigned to offer police protection to actor John Travolta when Travolta was in town for a book signing tour promoting the film "Battlefield Earth."

Brodsky said the photo proves that Peterson did, in fact, use the assault weapon while on duty.

"This photo should convince the state police that they've made a mistake with these charges," Brodsky said in a written statement. "If not, we might need to subpoena Mr. Travolta when this case goes to court."

Another photo shows Peterson posing with other police officers on Bolingbrook's SWAT team. In the photo, he is holding the AR-15 while standing next to Bolingbrook's police chief. He claims that proves the police chief knew he had the weapon for use on the job."

When they showed the photo this morning on MSNBC, I noticed that all of this is coming from the PR person that Drew and Brodsky hired.

Ok, there are several possibilities on this. First that DrewP used the weapon, but didn't get official approval on it. And that he used it on duty- but later changed out parts on it. From what I have read, that weapon has several interchangable parts- including different length barrels. I can't see the pic that well, but from the pic will they be able to make any determinations of the length of the weapon?

Also, I can't imagine the prosecutor bringing charges that he didn't think he can make stick. But with DrewP's providing pictures showing him having the weapon on duty, it should cause problems with the pension if they do make it stick.

That day was Drew working as a cop for BB or was he off duty providing security for Travolta? I thought that stars usually had their own security and then paid for security in the towns they visit. Meaning I didn't know that local police were charged with the job of protecting stars when they're on tour..this was a book signing. I would think the store and Travolta would be liable for paying for the security, not BB. I could be wrong..how do we check this part of the equation out?

Somehow with all the lies that JAB and company circulate, I find it hard to believe that Drew was working that given day as a BB cop protecting Travolta. I think he was off duty hired as security.

And lol they are going to subpeona Travolta..yeah like that's going to go over big..like he knows the weapons that all these guys in a thousand towns carry and he remembers Drew from 2000. Drew's ego is bigger then ever now.

And last, but not least, Drew hasn't been on the swat team for quite sometime. Wasn't he the second shift watch commander when both Kathleen and Stacy went missing? So maybe that gun should have been turned over years ago, and instead Drew decided to keep it and modify it and never register it?

I saw the picture, it isn't very clear to me. Did he use the gun without permission and not get caught? Hmmm......

DD, the following might answer some of your questions.

It looks like the whole town of Bolingbrook turned out for the John Travolta appearance.

From the promotional website for "Battleship Earth":

"JOHN TRAVOLTA DRAWS THOUSANDS OF FANS IN CHICAGO ––
AND BECOMES AN HONORARY POLICE CHIEF!
John Travolta’s appearance at the Meijer Store in the Chicago suburb of Bolingbrook attracted more than two thousand fans, lots of media and a large contingent of the local police force, including members of the SWAT team.

What caused all the commotion? Well, John, who is well known for the bad guy roles he has played in such films as Face Off, Broken Arrow and Pulp Fiction, was in Chicago as part of a whirlwind promotional tour for his upcoming film Battlefield Earth, based on the best-selling novel by L. Ron Hubbard. Travolta plays Terl - the alien security chief of a conquered Earth - who according to the actor is far more evil than any other movie character he has ever portrayed.

Luckily both the Mayor of Bolingbrook, Roger Claar, and Police Chief Kenneth Each were willing to overlook Travolta’s recent tendency to play villains and instead awarded him an honorary Police Chief’s badge.

Travolta’s fans turned out in mass, some arriving ten hours early so they could be the first in line. As the crowd grew bigger throughout the day, so did the excitement.

After signing 500-plus copies of Battlefield Earth and posing for hundreds of photographs, John received a mayoral and police escort to a waiting helicopter to take him to his next stop on his tour. Even though it was a long day, there were over a thousand cheering fans waiting to see him off."

Thanks Nora...that helps some..but I thought Drew was off the swat team by then, I guess I was wrong. Interesting he isn't in the formal photo you just posted, but is in the earlier one. Maybe it was still his day off and he was working security instead of his BB job. He just doesn't appear to be in very good physical shape to be on a swap team. But that was 8 years ago.

From some research reading I did a couple of weeks ago, and I am sorry but I did not save links, it seems that unlike large cities, where the SWAT team is made up of people who are only on the SWAT team, Bolingbrook and some of the surrounding towns pool their resources when a SWAT team is needed for important events such as escorting John Travolta to his waiting helicopter.

The SWAT team members in and around Bolingbrook come together from a number of jurisdictions when the need occurs. The rest of the time they do their regular jobs, whether its walking a beat, patroling the parks, manning the desk, etc. Drew was a member of the SWAT team for at least ten years, and as far as I know, he was still a member when Stacy 'disappeared'.

Oh okay..so once a member always a member even if you are given another position in the local force. I didn't know that..but that is interesting. So where does that leave these gun charges?

I guess it leaves the gun charges here:

"Peterson will likely face his own media barrage Friday (May 30th), when he is slated to appear in court on a charge of unlawful use of a weapon.

Last week, he was charged with possessing an assault rifle with a barrel nearly 5 inches shorter than allowed by law.

Attorney Joel Brodsky said he planned to file a motion to dismiss the charge, saying his client—who turned over the weapon after authorities seized the rest of his firearms—owned the gun while he was a police officer.

Peterson's publicist Wednesday released a photo of Peterson allegedly holding the weapon while on police duty in 2000 as an apparent bodyguard for actor John Travolta, who was in town to promote a film. Brodsky said the photo "proves" that Bolingbrook police officials knew Peterson possessed the weapon."

I guess Drew will be the center of attention today again. I hope these gun charges pan out. I'd like to see Drew behind bars even if it is for this until the GJ is completed.

He is such a egotistical creep! :furious:

The city I live in has a SWAT team which trains together one day a week, spending the rest of their time on various other assignments, while on call for SWAT. All team members are from our city PD, but the team serves an approximate 75 mile radius of the city, since there are no other cities in our area, only towns with a much smaller PD.

Until a very recent promotion which precludes serving with SWAT, my H was a SWAT entry team leader and in charge of training. They train HARD, going on 10 mile runs in full gear, guns and all, in 85 degree heat. The regularly train on a grueling obstacle course requiring top physical condition and excellent reflexes, active shooter exercizes etc. Competition for a place on the team is fierce, and there are several very qualified officers at any given time waiting to replace any member who can no longer keep up. These men and women are atheletes in top physical condition and mentally sharp.

DrewP does not appear to have been in a physical or mental condition anywhere near healthy enough for a SWAT officer, even in pics I've seen from several years back. Kind of hard to stay in shape when you spend your free time at the bar.

According to this article DrewP gave his new girlfriend a cell phone and police were able to check it out and found a gpx tracking system on it, seems DrewP just has to have his spyware going on. I hope this girl has come to her senses and is serious about washing her hands of him! She sure does look a lot like Stacy IMO.

From what I gather, this is the Doc prepared for Court today in Defense of DP.

Interesting document, but unless I missed something, and I very well may have, this gun was not registered to Drew or to the department. Now if I read their liitle snip of the Federal Law correctly, they left out the portion where it has to be registered.

So if the gun is not registered to Drew or the department, then I would think he is still in big trouble for not registering a firearm?

Dunno DD, it's a he-said they say situation right now.

It stated in the Chicago Tibune that Peterson and his attorneys, Joel Brodsky and Andrew Abood, claim the gun was registered with the Bolingbrook police for Peterson's use as a member of the department's SWAT team.

But the Will County State's attorney's office contends the gun was privately owned by Peterson, and Bolingbrook police officials have said the department had no knowledge of the weapon.

IF DP has the documentation that he did register it with BBPD, he's home free. IF not, Brodsky may say if he was he using it and the BBPD didn't realize it they also were at fault.

There is a second "Dismiss Motion" document that has been uploaded to that 'scribd' website that Tom's Girl pointed us to.

http://www.scribd.com/doc/3168572/Dismiss-Motion

I am not feeling patient enough today to figure out the differences between the two, BUT, there is an error (a typo?) in both of them, and if I were in charge, I would say throw the motions out!!!

Also, it seems to me that Brodsky got all of this stuff directly from Wikipedia. Maybe they need to mount a fund-raising campaign again so that Brodsky can go beyond Wikipedia. Just a thought.

Dang!! All that showed on this thread on the main page was Drew Peterson to Surrender...... ROFL I got my hopes all up!
