Sharing @GreyClay's excellent timeline (rsff):

He was known by several other names than the ones that have been posted the most on this thread, eg he was also known as the "Diamond Knot Killer" and the "Creek Killer"

There were some slight overlaps in the time-frames of some of these crimes, and evidence is emerging that JJD may have been responsible for up to five separate crime series.

5. Original Night Stalker: 1979 - 1986

4. East Area Rapist: 1976 - July 1979: (though he almost certainly committed one rape on the 21st of October 1975)

3. Visalia Ransacker: - 1974 - December 1975

2. Eight months ago, the Sacramento Sheriff's department discovered a series of crimes quite similar to the Visalia Ransackings that took place in Rancho Cordova and the East Area of Sacramento during late 1972 and 1973.

1. The most recent edition of the podcast 12-26-75 seems to have found a whole range of crimes that were happening in Exeter (where JJD's sister was living) from 1970 - 1973, that seem very similar to the Rancho Cordova cat burglar AND the Visalia Ransacker.

East Idaho link to Golden State Killer; DNA test helps with 40-year investigation

The DNA test that sparked an investigation into solving the Golden State Killer case started right here in Rexburg.

A Rexburg woman, who is an avid genealogist, took her dad’s DNA and unwittingly helped investigators find distant cousin Joseph DeAngelo, who is suspected in killing 11 people and raping 50 women in California from 1978 to 1986. The woman spoke on condition of anonymity, and the Standard Journal like the Associated Press, is not releasing her name.

“The male line can go back 20 to 30 generations. Having a 12 marker match, they don’t share the same surname. It’s way up in the tree. It was because of that test and that rare genetic marker, that the FBI initially thought my dad was the killer,” she said.

Did the East Area Rapist have an accomplice? 'That is a possibility,' detective says

From the link:

Detective Paul Holes, credited with coming up with the family-tree tracing method that caught suspect Joseph James DeAngelo last month, said Monday it's possible two people were involved in some of the crimes.

"Those of us who are familiar with the case files recognize that is a possibility," Holes said. "I've always just held open the possibility of a second person assisting in a few cases, but not being active through the whole series."

When Citrus Heights cafe owner Charlene Carte saw a photo of the man police say is the Golden State Killer, she was astounded to realize he'd been one of her regulars for years.

In an interview with Fox40, Carte, who owns Charlie's Cafe, said she recognized Joseph DeAngelo as the man who frequented her restaurant weekly. Carte said he stood out, in part, because of his livid reactions to small mistakes.

Neighbor: ‘Golden State Killer’ suspect, ex-wife had ‘epic shouting matches’

https://www.mercurynews.com/2018/04...spects-ex-wife-said-there-was-always-trouble/

“He would come by on a regular basis and scream and yell from the driveway and never step inside,” said the neighbor, who didn’t want his name used. “He and Sharon would get in epic shouting battles. It was a very volatile relationship when he came over and it was not good. It was just very toxic.”

“He was just unstable and used a lot of profanity and had a really bad temper and it was ugly to see.”

Investigator reveals eerie detail from search of Golden State Killer suspect's home

After DeAngelo's arrest on April 24, Holes was part of a team of investigators who gained access to his home. He immediately saw an echo of the television signature in DeAngelo's room.

"He has a computer there, and he's got a towel over the monitor," Holes said on the podcast. "And I'm looking at that going, 'Is that just a dust cover, or is he reminiscing?
