Some of you are working yourself up to a hysteria and need to calm down.

Those of you who don't trust people with education, or like to engage in conspiracy theories, or think that anyone wearing scrubs is part of some kind of effort to get you and yours can continue to work yourself into a panic and get all your science information from bunk science blogs. I live practically at ground zero and intend to stay calm and rational and practice safe hygiene and use common sense as I always have. Today as I go to work as a nurse less than 2 miles from ground zero, I will use universal precautions and keep abreast of the news, as well as keep all the people who actually came into direct contact with his bodily fluids in my thoughts and hope for the best for all of them.

Meanwhile, as in every year, over 30,000 will die of influenza, some of them after refusing a vaccine that could have saved them.
I worked in hospitals, nursing homes, and home health for 13 years, that's how I got exposed to TB- a patient with active TB coughed on me. And I've had patients vomit on me and bite me. I don't read "bunk science blogs". And I do get the Flu shot every year, so I'd thank you not to blanket include me in your lump mass!!!

Apparently in the decade or longer since I read about both viruses at length, I forgot a lot? Drank a lot? Slept a lot? Sorry. I was really sure ebola was the lesser of two evils. But now I'm wondering if there is a 3rd that I cannot call the name of that is worse than these two. Carry on, sorry.
Dengue Fever??

During a press conference just broadcast on CNN it was revealed that the family members of patient Duncan who are quarantined have been non-compliant with the quarantine. They were not at home when the CDC came to take their temperature. In addition, they sent one of their children back to school. The CDC came to the school and removed the child from the classroom.

This is not good.

I just can't even imagine what is going on with these people ....

Sorry, I don't know how to reference a tweet on here but I just read on the CDC Tweet thing that people will only test positive when they are symptomatic.
Seems like that poses a real problem to weed out who is infected vs who is not, without the real possibility of spreading the virus.

He sure didn't get it. They wouldn't even admit him into the hospital at first.
Maybe he should have gone to another state and not TX.

What state would you have suggested?? Noone would want this guy except for maybe the 4 isolation unit hospitals. The health care workers who came here for treatment were open about their exposure so that noone else got infected and proper precautions were taken. This guy Thomas Eric was a selfish liar who didn't care who he exposed as long as he got treatment in the US. I hope there is NO ZMapp available for him!!! GRRRR!

AIDS can be treated. It will NOT kill you as quickly as Ebola does. Not at all comparable. Ebola can kill within 48 hours of exposure to it.

Do you have a link for that? That duration is not in line with anything I have ever seen.

Incubation ranges from 2-21 days, then once symptoms appear, death due to multiple organ failure rarely come less than 7 days after symptoms first appear. So going from exposure to death in two days seems highly unlikely.

Heavy bleeding is rare and is usually confined to the gastrointestinal tract.[12][15] In general, the development of bleeding symptoms often indicates a worse prognosis and this blood loss can result in death.[9] All people infected show some signs of circulatory system involvement, including impaired blood clotting.[12] If the infected person does not recover, death due to multiple organ dysfunction syndrome occurs within 7 to 16 days (usually between days 8 and 9) after first symptoms.[14]

So vomit sprayed around all-over the place and likely down the drain where it will be reused for drinking water later right?

according to everything i've seen it can not be spread through water.

according to everything i've seen it can not be spread through water.

I saw this question addressed by an epidemiologist on another site. The answer was that the virus would not survive in the septic system environment, and even if it could, the dilution would render it ineffective at transmitting itself.

I had a long converstion with my pharmacist this afternoon. He wasn't very reassuring. One thing he told me that was very interesting and I'd like verification is,that once someone is symptom free( the man and lady who got the experimental drug. Has anyone else survived?),the virus is still alive in seminal fluid for up to 7 weeks. I think that's what he meant. Maybe he means even if you don't get any symptoms yourself but have been in contact with the virus it can live for 7 weeks.
I will try and get more clarification, but he said its in some CDC report.

This is true although many experts think the virus parts left in semen can not infect new people although everyone suggest not risking it.

Well United seems to be moving faster than CDC.

After United Continental Holdings Inc. said it learned that a Liberian national now hospitalized with Ebola in Dallas traveled on two United flights on Sept. 20, the airline said it immediately began trying to contact the “several hundred” other passengers on the two flights.

United said it is providing those customers with contact information for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, should they have questions or concerns, while also telling them the CDC has said there is “zero risk of transmission” of the often deadly virus on the flights.

Oh no :( Poor baby. Now I wonder if these other tests are related to the guy in Dallas, as in same flight or anything or would these be ' new' and 'unrelated' IF they are confirmed. ( ETA , the hawaii case came back negative )

probably not these cases that have been isolated and tested have been popping up very regularly for the last 2 month it's just no one paid attention b/c they were always negative and done out of abundance of caution ... Which it makes it all the harder to imagine the hospital in dallas did what it did.

I totally agree with you LinasK This guy Thomas Eric was a selfish liar who didn't care who he exposed as long as he got treatment in the US.

Wonder if the planes that guy traveled on got a thorough scrubbing before or after traveling to 27 "more cities? I'm going to guess after.
