Here are some more details on the woman that Duncan helped in Liberia. She was taken to three hospitals and a clinic. The taxi driver says she was bleeding from the mouth and was told that she was having a miscarriage. The family reassured him that she did not have Ebola.

(The taxi driver) said (the woman) was bleeding from her mouth, but he was told she bit her tongue and was having a miscarriage, and was reassured that she did not have Ebola. “She was helpless. She, she was not able to walk by herself,” he said. Williams’ family and the others caring for her assisted her. He believes Duncan sat in front with him when they left but was in the back on return with the pregnant patient.

Forgive me if this was already mentioned but this is scary! http://www.cnn.com/2014/10/02/health/ebola-nbc-news-cameraman/index.html?hpt=hp_t1

The NBC camera man was hired one day and came down with it the next. So I'm wondering what physical contact he had?? Was he from the area or just arrived there and brought it with him? I thought it took a couple days to come down with symptoms after exposure. Is it effecting people quicker or possibly becoming airborne? This case seems different.

iirc one of the other articles I read said he had been working there for 3 yrs.

.....tragic.....& still no game plan!

Citizens should be enraged & appalled!

Bless your heart, be safe.................do you have vacation time while this is going on? OH MY!

Thank you! I'm taking precautions and wearing gloves. I'm out of vacation until next year unfortunately. What is really bad is that there are new hires on probation who will not wear them for fear of being written up. I tell them to wear them and if their manager has a problem they can blame me.

It does make you worry, but so far, it appears that Ebola is contracted only after the symptoms appear. We know that he had contact with the woman that was fully symptomatic and that died in the early hours of the morning the day after he and the family had tried to transport her to any hospital that would take her, to no avail. Both he and the brother of the woman that died experienced first symptoms on the 24th, a full 4 days after he had traveled.

Viruses are funny little creatures. The more you study them, the worse it gets!
And then of course, they like to mutate.
And they're so iddie--biddie!

Wake up! (This isn't meant for you directly, elfie.....just as a snarky general message to the public at large).

I watched a documentary yesterday about Ebola and apparently there is such a stigma that people over there lie about their symptoms, symptoms their families may be having, and so forth. Wonder if that was the case here? That he was lied to by the family and really didn't suspect Ebola? In any case...he should have been more conscientious and taken precautions to protect himself while offering to help. That's just common sense when you are living in an area where Ebola is everywhere!

So Duncan knew she died- she died that night, and she was bleeding from her mouth. Was he really that stupid as to believe she died from a miscarriage???:banghead::banghead::banghead:

I am so sorry for this family. I really do not think that the local authorities that are able to "handle these type of situations" are competent to remove them, and everything that could be infected (which carpets would be a HUGE issue for me if I lived in this complex), from the apartment.

ITA, and where would they move them? That apt. is already contaminated. It is to late IMO. They have been exposed. Next move is probably the hospital. then seal off the apt.
I'm sick thinking 3000 of our troops are there!
OUR GOVERNMENT needs to protect us.
My grand mother used to talk about deptheria and the quarantine (yes she had a son die and it was a true horror story, even his embalming and funeral)

Earlier today I had made a comment about travelers and airplane lavatories, so I wanted to clarify that I was referring to travelers that become symptomatic during travel, and so far we are being told that Mr. Duncan was not symptomatic during the time of his travels. I'm equally concerned about future air travel.

Then I might have had sympathy for his gesture of helping out. But to blatantly put down you've had no contact, and tell that to his girlfriend is arrogance or lunacy!!!

The best way to prevent a mutation is to stop the outbreak ASAP. A mutation will occur because of adaptive/environmental pressure and sheer luck. The more time that goes on, the more chance of a mutation.

We should have been sending in help to the affected nations long before now to get this thing under control. We have close ties to Liberia, for example, due to it's history which is interwoven with ours. We should have been helping from the beginning, both for their sake, our sake, and the world's sake, really.

Now we are finding out he actually became sick on the 23rd not the 24th.

What I find laughable is the White House spokesperson who today said that they were having flight attendants and pilots monitor for Ebola. That's a lie. I'm a flight attendant and there has been nothing about this from my company or union.

This could be a failure on the part of your employer to pass down the instructions to monitor.

Not everything is Obama's/the Government's fault.

A miscarriage with blood coming out of the mouth. That is no miscarriage! That is Ebola! WTF???????

Agreed! And I don't think he was in denial. I think he flat out LIED.
