Have we heard ANY news about the "family members" in Dallas? Seems it has gotten awfully quiet.

Last I heard they strongly suspected one family member could be infected.

Last nights local Dallas news were all reporting that thus far no family members were showing any symptoms. If Ebola is transmitted the way we are told I don't understand how family members, especially Louise, could possibly avoid the contracting the disease. That sends my mind reeling off in another direction. Is it possible that we here in the US have stronger immune systems because of our more sanitary living conditions? I'm sure CDC knows a great deal about Ebola in Africa but they have never been confronted with the disease here at home.

I continue to pray that none of the family or anyone else here becomes ill with Ebola.

We are going to an ATV park this weekend in east Texas and my 15 year old daughter was actually worried: "are you sure it's o.k. That we are going to Texas since they have Ebola?" I assured her we were going to be in our own RV and outside and only touching our stuff. She is still worried and wondered if she could stay home with grandma.

I'm not sure if this article has been posted before but I thought it's quite interesting to read and understand some of the circumstances why Ebola is spread so quickly in West Africa:

Interview with Ebola Discoverer Peter Piot: 'It Is What People Call a Perfect Storm'

http://www.spiegel.de/international...t-discoverer-of-the-ebola-virus-a-993111.html

Good article. These two snippets jump out at me:

SPIEGEL: Have we completely lost control of the epidemic?

Piot: I have always been an optimist and I think that we now have no other choice than to try everything, really everything. It's good that the United States and some other countries are finally beginning to help. But Germany or even Belgium, for example, must do a lot more. And it should be clear to all of us: This isn't just an epidemic anymore. This is a humanitarian catastrophe. We don't just need care personnel, but also logistics experts, trucks, jeeps and foodstuffs. Such an epidemic can destabilize entire regions. I can only hope that we will be able to get it under control. I really never thought that it could get this bad.

SPIEGEL: Do you think we might be facing the beginnings of a pandemic?

Piot: There will certainly be Ebola patients from Africa who come to us in the hopes of receiving treatment. And they might even infect a few people here who may then die. But an outbreak in Europe or North America would quickly be brought under control. I am more worried about the many people from India who work in trade or industry in West Africa. It would only take one of them to become infected, travel to India to visit relatives during the virus' incubation period and then, once he becomes sick, go to a public hospital there. Doctors and nurses in India, too, often don't wear protective gloves. They would immediately become infected and spread the virus.

It is boggling if this hasn't happened already.

The PBS special last night made it seem like everyone treated with that experimental drug (MAP7)???
or something like that, lived.
The problem was/is lack of supply and that it IS experimental only at this time.

Duncan didn't receive that drug treatment.

Duncan didn't receive that drug treatment.
The Spanish priest that received zmapp died.
A Norwegian MSF worker received the last dose.

It takes 6 months to make zmapp.

Here is detailed information on zmapp

Did the NIH play a role in getting the experimental therapy to the two U.S. patients in Liberia?

This experimental treatment was arranged privately by Samaritan's Purse, the private humanitarian organization, which employed one of the Americans who contracted the virus in Liberia. Samaritan's Purse contacted the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), who referred them to the National Institutes of Health (NIH). NIH was able to provide the organization with the appropriate contacts at the private company developing this treatment. The NIH was not involved with procuring, transporting, approving, or administering the experimental treatments.

According to this article, published Oct. 7, one of the deceased Spanish priests received Zmapp. I do not know when he received this drug in his progression of illness and/or if other clinical factors were at play.

We flew in and out of JFK last week, air travel has become exhausting. On alert for terrorist, some were nervous about sick fellow passengers a few were wearing face masks. One of the stewardess said with the ebola scare a lite flu season will be what we need this year as she smiled and crossed her fingers. [emoji18]

ciao

I fly with my husband every couple of months to Belgium and I always wear a mask and wipe down everything with wipes.I have done this prior to the ebola outbreak because I have Lupus and some OCD issues. My paronoia has tripled.

Why no updates on the patient from Frisco? It would be very nice to say ' he's not developed any further symptoms other than a stomach pain' OR ' he's begun to vomit or have fever'. Why nothing? Or am I missing the updates? T IA

''What Bailey learned from the episode informs his suspicion that the current strain of Ebola afflicting humans might be spread through tiny liquid droplets propelled into the air by coughing or sneezing.
"We know for a fact that the virus occurs in sputum and no one has ever done a study [disproving that] coughing or sneezing is a viable means of transmitting," he said. Unqualified assurances that Ebola is not spread through the air, Bailey said, are "misleading."''''

Agreed I was hoping that they would have come on with an update saying it was a stomach bug or he ate to much chili the night before. I'm glad he is worried about his health since the people who should be keep blowing it all off.

Yes, I believe that is how the Sherrif was infected. He wondered why they took his stuff after he had been in the home.
