Oh boy this isn't good. I was hoping there wouldn't be a second case.

The CDC chief says there was "clearly" a breach in protocol that allowed a TX health care worker to contract Ebola: http://www.cbsnews.com/news/cdc-chief-on-second-ebola-case-there-was-a-breach-in-protocol/ …

Not an ER worker?

The person was wearing protective gear at the time, though Dr. Varga did not elaborate on the type of contact or the type of job the person has at the hospital.

The preliminary test was done at the state public-health laboratory in Austin and the positive result was received late Saturday, officials said. Other tests will be done by the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta.

A federal health official said that the C.D.C. expected to receive the sample from Texas this morning, and its test results should be available later on Sunday.

Ten of the 48 people were considered high risk, including seven health care workers, Mr. Duncan’s fiancée, Louise Troh, and two other relatives and community members, all of whom were confirmed to have contact with Mr. Duncan.

And the lady who got infected was not even considered one of the contacts, as far as I can tell.

We don't know whether the guidelines are inadequate, the hospital didn't implement them properly, or the worker made a mistake.

Have you seen this very awkward video turned out by the Galveston Health Department on how to don and REMOVE a PPE suit after Ebola exposure?

This was done as an OFFICIAL instruction video for EMTs etc...and it is a joke, they do NOT sanitize the suit the wearer just struggles to get out of it while an unprotected "helper" fumbles with the bio-hazard bag holding the "contamination". And these are the "experts" that the rest of us are supposed to depend on?

Long video, removal starts at 7:30 mark.

Not the news I was hoping for this morning. I really was thinking that the 21 days may pass for each group of potential patients and that we were getting into a clear zone.
Hopefully since she was diagnosed so quickly , they can begin supportive care and she'll be ok. Also, isn't it interesting how we heard nothing about her even being possibly ill UNTIL the positive test result? Compare that to the fiasco with the deputy and it's strange what / who the press decide to run to with their cameras. Senseanymake ?

??? Where did you see that?

I put a question mark after my statement because he said this:

He said officials will also closely study "the interventions that were done to try desperately to keep the index patient alive," which included dialysis and intubation.

"These are two procedures which can result in the spread of infectious material," Frieden said.

Helper doesn't even have gloves on. She would be infected if this suit was actually contaminated with Ebola.

And helper uses her foot to secure the moving bag. Plus the person removing the suit holds onto a chair with the gloves on,while still trying to take the suit off!

Shouldn't the person wearing the suit also be in Long sleeves, instead of short sleeves?

Ok so now do people in that area of Lower Greenville in Dallas need to be concerned? Will they have to go now and trace all of HER contacts ? How does this work?
A new batch of people who have to be monitored for 21 days? Which reminds me, Wow and by the grace of God , no one that was in the Duncan apartment got sick, right?

Just googled the address and it's literally a block from someone I know. So that's curious. But nothing to worry about, right?

"We knew a second case could be a reality, and we've been preparing for this possibility," said Dr. David Lakey, commissioner of the Texas Department of State Health Services. "We are broadening our team in Dallas and working with extreme diligence to prevent further spread."

bbm, It's my opinion that the emergency room is not accepting patients because it is getting a scrubbing, I think that is where the wroker was working up till the spike in temp.

ITA esp since she was there infected for 90 min

bbm, Exactly so at this time it appears that they have a resistance to it of the protective wear is the problem. jmo idk It doesn't make sense.

If there was a protocol breach in the treatment of Duncan then that's just sad! These people clearly don't get how serious ebola is.

I wonder if this health care worker was one of the people exposed to Mr. Duncan on his first visit to the hospital when they sent him home.

I'm hearing she was exposed on Mr. Duncan's second visit. They are estimating she was 12 days post contact with Mr. Duncan.
