I am not "in the know" but I recall reading something about immune system health playing a part in the incubation time. They thought stronger immune systems might result in a longer incubation time.

Just guessing but that might mean the level of exposure also plays a part in how fast the active infection surfaces (i.e. nurses that get heavily exposed show symptoms fast, vs. folks that were exposed to smaller amounts of the virus show symptoms later).

How in the world if Duncan had intimate relations with Louise would she not be infected? He already had the virus when he got here from Liberia.. Could she be a carrier? Or maybe she needs to be a case study for vaccines imo.

They're seeking out 132 passengers.

Shut down the flights from these countries!!!!!!!!!!

Or at least have a 21 day quaranteen area for observation, and then let entry. I think the quaranteen holding area is very doable because there would be people always moving in and out of the area.

I know there would be some expense involved to house + feed the people, but my goodness lets invest some serious funds to help stop the spreading of this disease.

The quaranteen idea would only have to be done for people entering from certain specific spots, so I think it is very doable.

Wow...just seeing the news about the nurse flying on a plane the night before she got sick. They say she wasn't displaying symptoms...but dang...what if she was in the very beginning stages and sneezed. I'm not usually an alarmist, but this is getting rather concerning.

Well, he wasn't symptomatic when he got here. Maybe HOPEFULLY once he began feeling ill, he abstained either out of concern for her or simply because he didn't feel up to it.

Could be. Doesn't bubonic have something to do with a Delta gene?

Don't recall the name of the gene, just that some Europeans carried a mutation that meant certain cells only had one receptor (layman's term) instead of two (thought to be a selective trait from survivors of the Bubonic Plague) and that trait provided immunity to HIV which also needs two receptors to infect cells.

The 2nd person flew on a plane the night before she was dx with Ebola

Hmmmmm. It seems a lot of the victims show signs shortly after a flight. I wonder if the cabin pressure has anything to do with helping the disease unleash itself on a victim.

WOW Immunology is really fascinating! Too bad my short term memory is shot, lol. I'd study it. JMO

The human body is a mind-blowing living thing. I wish I would have stayed with my original choice to work in the field of bacteriology.

Yes. Amazing how such a horrible disease brought so many benefits. I think CDC needs to re look polio vaccine and smallpox vaccine. It would be big if one of these provided resistance to Ebola.

I agree but he was still carrying the virus so could exposure to the virus when first contracted be a way to ensure immunity? If she doesn't get it she needs to be studied imo.
