Hmmmmm. It seems a lot of the victims show signs shortly after a flight. I wonder if the cabin pressure has anything to do with helping the disease unleash itself on a victim.

Sorry to quote myself but just thought of something else along these lines...

If the experts research this and can prove that cabin pressure on planes made the disease get worse quickly, I wonder if a possible treatment for this disease could be to put someone in a hyperbolic reverse pressure chamber to literally help suck the disease out of them.

It most likely would not be a cure but it maybe could help the patient recover.

There are some other medical issues where hyperbolic reverse pressure chambers do help people. I cant remember what they were though.

Anyway, just thought I would mention this since it seems like at least 3 people now have had their symptoms get much worse right after a plane ride. Makes you wonder about the cabin pressure contributing to its rapid effects of the disease.

What I want to know is: Why is ANYONE who had any contact with Duncan (or contact with someone who had contact with him) FLYING (Drivng/out in public, etc.)?????? WHY are they not in isolation?? This isn't rocket science. And if it is, I must be a genius!

If anyone gets a link to a pic please post Tia

Okay, point very well taken about the 75 staying put.

So the question MUST be asked:

Was she honest that her symptoms started on Tuesday?

Why in the world would she travel to Dallas. If I've worked with Duncan, and I've now been informed that my co-worker Nina has been infected, and I'm currently in Cleveland, I'm going to the nearest one of the four state of the art ID facilities. Why would you go back to the place which you know contributed to your situation?

It looks like the importance of self isolation is lost on many people (think Duncan's family, who had to be forcibly contained, to Dr. Snyderman, to this young lady now). Seems clear to me that forced quarantine is mandated. For all 75. Transfer the two ill patients to Emory or Nebraska, or wherever the other 2 units are. Shut the ebola care at Presby down.

If the rumors are true, there are several more people with fevers and they did not fly:(

Well, he wasn't symptomatic when he got here. Maybe HOPEFULLY once he began feeling ill, he abstained either out of concern for her or simply because he didn't feel up to it.
He wasn't symptomatic but the virus was in his body. My guess is they were reconnecting after many yrs and probably getting to know each other again. TG for her.

Thank you for posting. Another question I have is: how many times a day would a nurse need to suit up, decomtaminate, re-suit up, etc. in a given 8 hour shift? It seems the more times they have to do this, the more the risk.

nrdsb4: Good question, and I don't know the answer. I'll ask my relative when I see that person on Friday.

Well for myself, as a lay person, this is where the confusion and mistrust comes into play.
The CDC and others say it is not airborne or contagious until so many days and symptoms appear. Yet, we now have an entire airliner (airport) full of people who the CDC would like to identify and interview.
All this double speak...

I'm confused. Now there are reports that the second nurse to test positive was on a flight from Cleveland to Dallas. I thought I read earlier that the 70+ people who cared for Duncan were in some level of isolation, (self-imposed or suggested, not legally enforced). So are they isolating the health care workers who were in contact with Duncan or not?

Yep. Very disappointed in this nurse and in the system which didn't mandate she stay put. WTF.

Maybe self isolation to them means watching yourself for symptoms

No, the people who worked with Duncan when he was admitted were only doing self monitoring.

Self isolation, not quarantine. Which apparently doesn't work. So forced quarantine should be the logical next step since people who presumably know better won't do better. What do you suppose the odds of this happening are?

I wonder if the nurse came back from Cleveland because the CDC asked her to for monitoring purposes.

Yes. Should have included "don't go anywhere, don't take mass transport, etc." But would that have been heeded by this young lady? I think going forward we have to assume no and take it out of their hands. As much as I hate to say it.

Wow....this is how it gets started and kept going. I really can't believe this woman flew after being in contact with Duncan and also with the other nurse who now has Ebola. I'm thinking if that were me that I would be a little more conscientious about traveling.

But according to the cdc it is not airborne so maybe she went to the bathroom and they just want to see who else may have went to the bathroom, and who sat next to her. jmo idk maybe

(above, bbm)
I've said this from the beginning.

Could be, nothing would surprise me now. But...how about provide her with private transportation?
