Officials Outline State Preparations For Ebola
McCrory told a news conference Monday that Wos and other health officials have been working with medical providers, county health departments and the military. The governor said North Carolina has been preparing since July for any Ebola diagnosis.
--McCrory is Gov. Pat McCrory

Now my question is: Did they have inside info to work with? Did all other states have same info?

States and hospitals receive the same info from CDC. There is no "inside info". CDC has had guidelines and bulletins for months.

Right? Why play games.

Agreed. When we were waiting for the results for Thomas Duncan I knew it was positive before they came out and said it was Ebola b/c they held off on the presser for a few hrs. I figured they need to get the people together and make sure things were in place if mass panic set in.

If the press conference is still going to be going on what would it be for? Unless its to say we did things right thanks to the city of Dallas showing the world what not to do and that we can not follow CDC guidelines. Beef those guidelines up.

Now my question is: Did they have inside info to work with? Did all other states have same info?

I seriously doubt if NC had inside info, more likely someone close to the Governor had been closely watching the Ebola disaster unfold and they convinced the leaders of the state to prepare.

Yeal I was being sarcastic - If the photo on the page is what NC has set up for Ebola patients, NC took whatever info provided to "all States" and started preparing in July.

This puts the western half of the metroplex into the mix , IF this person has it. Which, I guess, is normal and would happen but I've been a touch ' safe' feeling like it's over 'there' in Dallas. Not over here on my side.

Oh update, my good who friend who lives one block from the nurse's apartment did say 2 interesting things. A ) he did get the packet on his door that the city/county/health departments were handing out 2 nights ago. B ) the neighborhood has had at least one helo over it almost continuously since the news came out. My guess is news crew cameras filming the cleanup etc.

The Alcon employee is the nurse's boyfriend, according to WFAA.

Surely that photo was not taken in the US. Those beds do not look like any hospital bed I have seen

I hope Dr Gupta's demonstration was how not to remove PPE. I don't think his gloves were on right either. Any other medical people notice?

British 'Ebola victim' in Macedonia did NOT have the disease and died after massive drinking binge, health officials say

Officials say Colin Jaffay, 58 did not die of the deadly Ebola virus
Mr Jaffray had been suspected of being the first UK victim to die
But tests have shown that he had not contracted the infection
It is believed that a drinking binge may played a part in this death
Had 'all symptoms of Ebola', but also been seen drinking 'large quantities'
Public Health England investigating but believe death 'unlikely' to be Ebola
The epidemic has killed 4,000 and infected at least 8,000 so far

Ebola, like any virus is vastly influenced by a wide variety of other variables which impact what in virus will do to a population

69% of the worlds popualtion of HIV suffers are in Africa.

Terrific - they can not discriminate between an alcohol and Ebola ....such silliness IMO!

They dont even sound close ha!

I think it's because of location. DFW is a huge airport in terms of passengers. But , to get to DFW you have to come through one of the ' port' ( i believe this is the term ) airports for international travel. Anyone flying in from that direction, like Africa or Europe, has to go through NY or DC or ATL to go through customs and then hop another plane to get into the more interior airports. Correct me if I'm wrong anyone who knows better. tia

I'm sure the family of the Brit who drank himself to death are more than delighted that he's got worldwide attention now. Geez

Interesting.

The article you quoted supports what I posted last week, but yet several people took issue with me stating that there's been no known cases of Ebola being transmitted by dogs or cats.

In fact, I was attacked for my opinion last week. I had stated that almost NO diseases can be transmitted inter-species, but yet someone brought up rabies to bombast me and refute my observation.

I'll repeat that unless you're keeping bats or street rats in your home as pets, there's virtually no chance of rabies being transmitted. I'm speaking as a person who has a long history of rescuing feral cats and have been bitten more than a few times by feral cats during rescues.

The worst that has ever happened to me is severe nerve damage to my hand when bitten by a feral cat. The bacteria in the feral cat's mouth caused severe nerve damage, and yes, it took months before I regained full used of my hand, but I was never in danger of dying. But the key word here is "bacteria", not a virus. The feral cat had a bacterial infection which in my case was treated by antibiotics. It was a long recovery period, but never was I in danger of dying, and I DID regain full use of my hand once the nerves healed.

My point, again, is that HUMANS spread this disease, not animals. I read over the week-end that some animals have been known to have contact with Ebola, yet have never developed the disease themselves.

I guess you can just call me the crazy cat lady. I work regularly with feral cats and other DOMESTIC rescues and I fear more from humans than any animal.

Humans can transmit parvo from a dog to another dog, right? Humans cannot catch parvo but can carry it between dogs on their shoes and such.
