Funeral Homes Get Marching Orders From CDC On Ebola

snipped
Michael Ruck Senior, owner of Ruck Funeral Homes says the guidelines state that if a person dies from Ebola, the body should be cremated immediately. If the family objects to cremation then the body will be buried immediately.

"There will be no visitation or viewing prior to the burial" says Ruck.

The bodies will not be embalmed. If the body is buried it will need to be in a hermetically sealed casket.

The CDC is still being "wishy-washy". It should say all people who die from ebola must be cremated immediately. Period. End of discussion.

Is embalming usually always done?

In CDC defense, they did say that there would be cases in the US, but that there would not be an epidemic. Hopefully, that was not whitewashing. We shall see. JMO

I hope not too.

I really meant the true prevention of this spreading in the US was what a lot of us was calling that should have been done since Day 1. Some form of quaranteen of travelers from those affected regions for at least 21 days until it is known they are not sick before entering.

I realize that would have been tough to put procedures in place like that and the expense of it, but look at the expenses now anyway. Our officials have really been penny wise and pound foolish.
If this keeps up, there will be some kind of restricted travel from those countries anyway sooner or later.

If they would have just done that from Day-1, we had a fighting chance.

Per CNN: "nurses say Dallas hospital blew it"

I agree. Wonder how the docs in the ER are feeling? Bet they take their temp every 15 minutes.

Well, that's a given. But it doesn't sound as if isolating Duncan from the first minute he walked in on the first visit would have helped these infected nurses. This is a different failure from the first.

I really think they need to shut it down at Presby and move the infected patients to Emory, and do a forced quarantine of every other HCW. Move anyone who becomes ill to one of the four centers.

I'm sure someone would say that's not feasible.

Stay healthy tip: always use your own ink pen when having to sign a receipt or other. I hate how you have to use the stylus in the drugstore to sign on computer for prescriptions.

Gosh me too! Those stylus things FREAK me out! Also carry hand sanitizers packets in your purse or pocket! I like the Germ-X brand. You can get them in a big box at Sam's or Wally World - the individual wipes that are sealed in a pouch are what I'm talking about. When I'm getting ready to leave the house I always make sure I have several in my purse! I like the hand gel too, but the wipes provide an extra barrier if you have to handle something. And honestly...I don't care how ridiculous I might look using a stylus with a germ-x wipe wrapped around it!

Okay, but why return? And via mass transport? Boggles the mind, it really does.

Do we have a timeline? Was she already in Cleveland when the other case was announced? If so why did she leave Cleveland when she knew there was potential exposure? If she was aware of the other nurses diagnosis why did she leave Dallas in the first place????

This is crazy!

That has strong religious/political implications (Hassidic burial requirements are one example).

Yes, why. She was educated and such. Dr. Nancy Snyderman probably was too.

Did I miss something? Has it been reported that she felt ill in Cleveland and flew home feeling ill? I agree that she knew she was possibly exposed before she left Texas........so it was unconscionable that she would use mass transit, but if she was not symptomatic on the flight then hopefully no one was exposed. I agree it does but we don't need funeral home people also getting infected they have families too.. And to another poster yes embalming is always done unless it's a cremation.. Can't embalming ebola folks as their blood etc would be highly contagious.. My son in law works for a funeral home and said if they get an ebola death he's quitting.. Not worth the risk.

You can carry your own stylus just like carrying a pen. Hmmmm.... I may have to buy one now!

Thanks. Didn't know Germ-X made wipes. Think about how many actively sick people go to drugstore from doctors office for medicine. The pen/stylus thing dawned on me a few years ago when I was in a drugstore, from the ER getting prescriptions filled for strep throat. I was concerned about infecting the next person who came along.

Oh my....Obama canceling his traveling plans today and the media is speculating he is meeting with the CDC. He never/rarely cancels does he? Not trying to be political...but this is how serious things seem to be getting.

Question: The CDC is tracking everyone down that shared a Frontier flight with Ms Vinson since she developed a fever the day after arriving back in Dallas from Cleveland. It's said she was one of the nurses that treated Duncan. Well, when did she fly from Dallas to Cleveland, or didn't she? Did she think she was safe and protected while treating Duncan, therefore she wasn't under any kind of quarantine? We've been led to believe the people caring for Duncan, as well as those he's come in contact with, have been quarantined.

Also, why did the CDC request the passenger list for Frontier but they didn't for the airline/s Duncan flew with? Even though he was asymptomatic while flying, he died from Ebola, therefore the infectious disease was inside of him. He flew here from Brussels. He got to Brussels from Liberia, which is like 7,000 mi distance in and of itself before even flying over the Atlantic to Dallas. That means at some point the man obviously peed and/or excreted waste in a public toilet. So, I think it's a very important question why the other international passenger list hasn't been followed up on considering Ebola would have been found in his urine and excrement.
