This whole thing has become more than stupid. Common Sense says if you were in Africa, directly involved with people who have Ebola..... And you come back to the US..... SELF Quarantine for 21 days to protect everyone else. What am I missing? :waitasec:

That it is totally on necessary. Nigeria which fully contained a virus, quickly, did not use quarantine. So why do we need to? And why only on healthcare workers returning from Africa rather than all healthcare workers who treat Ebola victims? It is not rational.

I firmly believe The desire to Quarantine healthcare workers returning from Africa ,<modsnip> has more to do with our cultural prejudices than it does with logic.

I do know that I am in awe of those who recount their experiences.
and, you'd have to do a lot to " pad your resume" in order to outshine a tour with " doctors without borders"

Actually, I never said anything about "outshining" a DWB worker. I simply said there are ways to pad a resume without risking one's life, and that is undeniably true. One is rarely if EVER competing for a job with a DWB veteran, so in general, it's just not necessary if one's goal is to climb the ladder.

I personally believe that these people are working in unbearable conditions and working hours which would be illegal here because they want to help people who are in desperate conditions. Perhaps there is some personal gain in the fulfillment they get from helping someone in this situation. Anyone who has held the hand of a dying person and heard their thanks for that comfort knows that there is a whole lot of fulfillment to be gained from that. I think it takes a lot of courage and love for one's fellow man to do what they do, and the compensation they receive is not really high enough to entice the average person whose motivation is a good salary, considering the price one has to pay to earn it.

The more I learn about what these people go through, the sacrifices they make, and the conditions in which they are working, the more I admire them. I was annoyed today because I worked 9 hours today with no lunch and not even one opportunity to have a glass of water or use the restroom. Just no comparison at all to their hardships.

Its being used to lock people up for 5.8% of their lives in a year!!!

Yes, the airport mass temp scans are imprecise and can be inaccurate. But they know that and use it accordingly. Since it's only intended to give a rough "heads up" and is not the means by which they ultimately determine if an entering person has a fever, what is your issue with it?

I am not sure why you keep saying Nigeria didn't quarantine. They did. I already posted a link. Here is another article. They closed the whole hospital down and isolated medical workers that cared for an Ebola patient.

"In addition to the medical staff that came in contact with the victim being isolated, all passengers on board the Asky Airline flight have been traced and are being investigated, according to health minister Onyebuchi Chukwu. Chukwu met on Friday with information minister Labaran Maku, who deemed the situation to be a national emergency, “not because it is already spreading but because we want people to behave in such a way that we can prevent the spread.”"

rather than all healthcare workers who treat Ebola victims? It is not rational. Totally agree- makes no sense at all. Throw in this regarding testing being used to lock someone up

If they are using the test to lock people up then they should use the test to open the cell door --- having it both ways makes even less sense. A lot less sense! <modsnip> It makes no sense. You need chemo if tests show you have cancer, AND you need chemo if tests show you are cancer free. WTH is that??

All one ends up with silly ..................................................It is numbing!

My guess is that the term quarentine and isolation are being muddled. In Nigeria they isolated some folks. That is IMO vastly diff than what they doing over here. France Britain Germany Norway Spain did not quarentine and have it managed;

"In addition to the medical staff that came in contact with the victim being isolated,

That makes sense to isolate after someone tests postive - many folks issue is with relying on temp AND testing negative and doing the same thing in either case - then why test or monitor temp - just put everyone away from Africa!

This blanket panic locking people up no matter what should be scary to all Americans

Remember 4 people on the planet, outside Africa have died.............that IS important IMO

LOL, Yeah ...America is defined not by fear but by possibility. Have yet to see the speaker suit up to help with the fight AT GROUND ZERO and if he does we all know he will have access to the cure immediately.
So different from the average "Joe ". Average " Joe" will die a hero.
