I am waiting for others to tell us yet AGAIN how saintly and altruistic every health care worker is or else facts may affect our perception of them!
That saintly and altruistic bullsh$t is...well, bullsh$t. Now all the volunteers to Africa should be honored like our soldiers?

Yes, actually, in my opinion. There are more ways to serve humanity bravely than killing people.

Last week, I heard a radio (WWJ) report about a local urgent care center posting a sign on their door that indicated they did not want people who thought they might have been exposed to Ebola to come to the clinic. Possible patients were urged to visit a local emergency room for treatment. I thought it was unusual because there hadn't been any reports of the illness possibly being in the area. The only mention of Ebola locally was a man from Liberia visiting family in Oak Park (about 10 miles south of where I live in Oakland County). The clinic is just a few miles away. Given the report this morning, the clinic's notice makes sense.

Here's an article about the urgent care clinic: http://www.theoaklandpress.com/heal...ic-tells-potential-ebola-patients-to-visit-er

Rochester Hills Urgent Care clinic tells potential Ebola patients to visit ER

A sign posted outside a Rochester Hills urgent care facility warns potential Ebola patients to visit the emergency room.

A Rochester Hills urgent care clinic posted a sign last week urging any patients who think they may have come in contact with the Ebola virus to seek help from a hospital emergency room.

WXYZ-TV reports Rochester Hills Urgent Care, located on the city’s southeast side, posted a sign on its doors late last week telling patients to instead report to the ER if they believe they are experiencing symptoms of Ebola...

i'm not completely sure about what i read in the ny post. I searched for this info on mainstream news sites and didn't find it. This paper a rag. The headline today is janitor on school roof touches himself while peeping on neighbors. If true he's really setting a bad example to lie about it.

It's possible he just omitted mentioning it at first since he knew his activities were harmless, especially so early into the 21 days. Then when he realized how seriously it was being taken he gave the info. It would be interesting to know how the conversation went down.

My doctor and his wife are both doctors. They are extremely good people in my view. I had to go in to see him a few days ago because it was time to renew my prescriptions. He and his wife actually go overseas every summer on their vacation with other doctors. They have been doing this for almost 20 years.

I actually asked him if he and his wife went this year. He said no, they did not go the end of August because he felt that his first loyalty was to his patients here in the United States. They would not risk bringing any contagious disease back here. There were several doctors from a
tri-state area that did not go because of this. These doctors felt a greater responsibility to their patients here. I admire and respect the work they have all done in underprivileged countries, but even more respect their decisions concerning this year.

I think my doctor was rather candid with me because I have known he and his wife for 28 years and we go to the same church. He actually delivered my first grandchild 26 years ago.

I believe this nurse, Kaci, has done a great thing by volunteering her nursing capabilities in that country, but at least be proactive in protecting her family, friends, and the general public now that she is back here. By not agreeing to a 21 day quarantine now that she is back is a very selfish and careless thing in my opinion. I honestly do not understand what her thought process is. Maybe she is not carrying the disease and will not get it, but WHY take the chance? She DID have a temperature upon arrival back to the United States.

My own mother was a registered nurse since the age of 25. She feels the same way I do and doesn't mind saying it.

This is my opinion and throw tomatoes if you want to. I make a mean spaghetti sauce with fresh tomatoes!

Her rights, her rights. Well, what about the people of Maine who just want/need to feel safe?

They want to "feel" safe. But, on some level, their feeble feelings aren't on her. "Be" safe, and "feel" safe, can be two very different things.

I think that her continued position - and a reasonable one - is that she should not have to cater to IRRATIONAL fears. If people are scared that she's the boogeyman possibly spreading disease, when it's medically proven to be untrue, that's their problem not hers. And she believes it should be the responsibility of the govt officials to educate, rather than pander to the irrational.

So what needs to be ascertained is whether, as she adamantly continues to preach, she truly carries no risk to others, and if so can that continue to be the case without her being locked up. We've been told that there's no risk to others until she shows symptoms, and she's staunchly advocating that as absolute fact...and, if that's accurate, then she indeed is locked up because of others' stupidity feeding fear, and that should be on them not on her.

On the other hand ...is she truly right, or just someone who's over-confident in the inability to transmit the disease to others if she's out-and-about before showing symptoms? There is truth that exists, and the difference matters.

Our civil leaders gotta separate fact from fear, and then have the cojones to follow the facts, educate, and refuse to pander to stupidity (wherever it lies).

DEVELOPING ...

Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel has ordered all military personnel returning from Ebola response missions in West Africa to be held in a 21-day quarantine.
Hagel signed the order Wednesday morning, accepting a recommendation from the Joint Chiefs of Staff. The Army days earlier had imposed such a policy on its own servicemembers, but the new order applies to all branches
