Earlier today, I purchased lovely organic romaine and enjoyed a nice salad that I made with chicken and cheese.
THEN I read about today's romaine alert.:oops:
I'm rarely ill, but I will now be taking extra Olive Leaf, Moringa Leaf and Echinacea. Perhaps some Colloidal Silver, too. I don't have any Oregano Oil, but may buy some tomorrow.

it is all because of animal ag
Animal ag meaning, using natural manure as fertilizer? I mean, we do that in our flower beds and yards all the time, but...... Maybe not in the food production industry, I honestly don’t know. Either way,it’s obvious they need to do SOMETHING different.

Leaf lettuce grows all bunched up at the base as well.

Farmers don’t want any borders between areas. Obviously, they are needed if cattle destroys a crop.

Food is also grown in sewage sludge repackaged as biosolids. It is not allowed on organic farms.

There are rules about the use of land that has been sludged. I wonder if it plays a role in recalled produce

Another romaine lettuce recall. This time, it may be from California.

“I think we are going to be in a position to isolate the region soon. There is some lettuce coming in from Mexico but most of what’s on the market is the result of end-of-the-season harvesting coming out of California right now.”

Although this is the second romaine-linked outbreak this year, it is not clear whether romaine lettuce itself is more likely to be contaminated than other vegetables, said Dr. Laura Gieraltowski, leader of the foodborne outbreak response team at the CDC. “It’s something we’ve been asking,” she said.

“It could have to do with the way the lettuce is shaped. (A head of) romaine lettuce is kind of open and maybe contaminated water can get into it more than into a head of iceberg lettuce or cabbage that is in a ball.”
[...]
Contaminated food is an extremely common problem. The CDC estimates that germs in food make 48 million Americans sick every year — that’s one out of six people. About 128,000 are made sick enough to be hospitalized, and 3,000 die.

I think that it would be safer to just eat chocolate from now on. Nutella and toast.
Organic spicy dark chocolate for me. :D

US urged to send Ebola experts to Congo amid outbreak

Johannesburg – Global health experts are urging the Trump administration to allow U.S. government disease specialists – “some of the world’s most experienced” – to return to northeastern Congo to help fight the second-largest Ebola outbreak in history.

The U.S. experts have been sidelined for weeks, ordered away from the region because of State Department security concerns. Two top medical journals this week have published commentaries calling on the U.S. to change its mind and send them back where they are sorely needed...

Health authorities in DR Congo have warned of a "serious" new Ebola outbreak after a medical centre at the heart of the epidemic was attacked

"Unidentified assailants set some of the compound's facilities and vehicles on fire," MSF said in a statement Thursday. "The blazes were contained, but the teams were obliged to immediately cease patient care."

No staff or patients were harmed, but the carer of one patient died in the attack in Katwa, MSF said.

"Both attacks were traumatic for patients, their relatives and staff who were inside the centres at the time," MSF said.

WTF are these people thinking? How lower than low can you get? Attacking a medical centre at the heart of an epidemic? I hope they all catch Ebola, and no one else does.

Ebola toll tops 700 in DR Congo - MyOwnGist

The Democratic Republic of Congo declared its tenth outbreak of Ebola in 40 years last August in northeastern North Kivu province before it spread into the neighbouring Ituri region.

The current outbreak is the second worst to date, the deadliest being a 2014 epidemic in West Africa which killed more than 10,000 people in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone.

“Since the start of the epidemic, overall cases are 1,117 — 1,051 confirmed and 66 probable. In total there are 702 deaths (636 confirmed and 66 probable) and 339 people who have recovered,” the ministry said, quoting data up to Thursday.

The ministry added late Friday that another 295 suspected cases were being examined.

The World Health Organization has warned that “the risk of national and regional spread remains very high” and said dealing with the epidemic could take another six months.

Poor security owing to the presence of several armed groups, coupled with resistance of some communities to seeking treatment, has hampered the fight to stem the spread of the disease.

A recent study in the central Congolese cities of Beni and Butembo found only a third trusted local authorities to help them and more than a quarter believed Ebola does not exist.
