So is Jeff -the man in the wheelchair ok? TIA

Earlier we posted some articles that seem to indicate he survived. His father says he had both legs amputated.

If you search Jeff Bauman marathon on google news you should find something. Hth!

Was the bag placed on or near the grid around the tree in the second photo?

I think these are ball bearings in this photo.

Jeff Bauman says his son, 27-year-old Jeff Bauman Jr., is the man in an Associated Press photo taken shortly after the bombing.

His father says on his Facebook page that his son had to have both lower limbs removed at Boston Medical Center because of extensive vascular and bone damage.

He says his son also had to have another surgery because of fluid in his abdomen.

I am seeing updates from friends/family that people are still fighting for their lives.

I've seen at least 3 who are still extremely critical and may not survive.

Let's hope right now that this death toll doesn't rise. :please:

The young man missing both his legs in the wheelchair is stable, yes.

Thank you for the link. Thanks to Carlos Arredondo and his efforts as noted below from the article.

The image is one of the most visceral of the many taken Monday in Boston, and in it he is accompanied by two responders and cowboy hat-wearing peace activist Carlos Arredondo, who can be seen in the photo literally pinching Bauman's femoral artery closed in an effort to staunch the bleeding.
Apparently, Arredondo's heroic efforts may have directly contributed to the victim's ability to survive the horrific injuries he sustained when the bomb went off directly adjacent to the finish line.

In addition, I hope Tom Brady and other Patriots make a special visit to Jeff.

Jeff Bauman Jr. appears to be an avid music lover and fan of the New England Patriots, according to his Facebook page.

I thought that scientist was cleared a while after his suicide? That the accusations and suspicion drove him too it? Regardless I know I read an article saying folks thought he was innocent.

Another person was cleared, but he didn't kill himself.

I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned this on the thread or not, but I read an article about the medical worker in the cowboy hat helping out. He lost a son in the military years ago in the Afghanistan (?), then the other son committed suicide b/c he never recovered from losing his brother. When the bomb went off, he was just a spectator with his wife - and he ran straight towards the people hurt, so he could help. If I find the article, I'll post it. (ETA - I see arielilane and I were thinking the same thing at the same time)

Regarding 'Jeff', there are also a couple of photos of him lying on the sidewalk.

the article dotr linked above includes a quote from a fire chief who mentions a deceased boy in the street... putting two and two together... that very graphic photo that people thought might be photo shopped was in the street... and **graphic comment**

it looks like part of what is seen is a small head ???

i hope i'm so wrong about the possible fate of little adorable martin :(

How these things work is so impossible to understand.
How does one person lose multiple limbs while the one next to them is unscathed?
It's all just so wrong.

To all who've offered words of strength, encouragement & support, we @ the BPD humbly say, "We hear you. We thank you. God Bless you all."

I missed Arredondo on Anderson.
It was very hard to watch Mrs. Campbell speak about her daughter, and hear the story about little Martin and his mom and sister. Martin's sister is a dancer.

Not to forget the Boston University graduate who also lost her life.

Here's a link to a news article showing the photo of the suspicious bag next to the mailbox.

http://www1.whdh.com/news/articles/...usive-fbi-investigating-photo-that-shows-bag/

Hmm, that does look very suspicious!! My only questions is why is the barracade blown outwards toward the road (the one that is now wrapped around part of the mailbox)? And people are basically on top of where that bag would have been. Wouldn't the barricade and people been blown away from the bomb? Not towards it?

Fwiw.. the pressure cooker shown here is likely made in Europe. INOX is a french moniker for stainless steel from acier inoxydable

http://www.myfoxphoenix.com/story/21996004/exclusive-photos-boston-marathon-bomb

The plate appears to be kind that's affixed to the bottom of the pot, not integrally layered into the pot, which probably suggests a cheaper version. Pressure cookers are not cheap, especially in stainless steel. A cheaper version might be found in departments stores, Marshalls, etc. More expensive ones only in specialty or online.

I think a European-made, value brand, or something made to mimic a European brand.

Similar to a car crush. You can have one person dead and another in the same car walk away without injuries.
