It still is an allegation and it is part of the record. iirc, the news media also reported that her CT pediatrician at one point made an allegation. So that's three allegations from medical professionals and hospitals.

Exactly, and each of those specific allegations...had more than a inkling something was up with these parents.
Three separate medical professionals, spanning two states... were so concerned they called child protective services tells me ...there is a MOUNTAIN of stuff to be concerned about.

This is a rhetorical comment:

I have often wondered why Justina was sent to see a psychologist at the age of about nine and why she then continued to see a psychologist for the next 5 years. It seems out of the ordinary to me.

At least 4 medical professionals at at least 3 different facilities either suspected or alleged that there was behavior that was at least "concerning" or constituting abuse in this case over the years.

This has been agreed with by DCF in 2 states now and upheld by the judge multiple times over.

You can claim that all those people are wrong (it is possible, i still can't say with absolute certainty) but you cant just act like those facts do not exist.

If your neighbor was accused of abuse, but it was dismissed, and then later they were accused of abuse again multiple times and it was found to be true - would you say oh well that first accusation means nothing, it was dismissed, so dont even consider it ever again?

No, you would say "hmmm they were accused in the past but for some reason they werent able to prove it at the time or maybe the family agreed to rectify the situation so it was dismissed, but we should definitely learn and consider the details of that situation to fully understand this case".

There is no mystery. Per the psychologist himself, he diagnosed her with low grade depression stemming from her physical issues.

And there are multiple professionals disagreeing.
There are children who actually beat up in their homes, and DCF does not remove them.
Justina is clearly doted on by her parents and sisters.
I don't have to personally like their personalities.
Their political views are of no relevance to me.
The parents have a right to raise their child the way they see fit, and a right to treat her for the disease she was diagnosed with.

I have to disagree with the part I have bolded. Justina also has rights which include the right to receive medical treatment and correct diagnosis.

Parents have never had a "right" to diagnose or treat a disease in another human being "as they see fit."

What I truly do not understand is the refusal of the parents to cooperate. Their actions give the impression they really don't want her closer and don't want to care for her.

Well after all, if she comes home, the circus moves on, and no more radio interviews with Howie Carr and Michael Graham for Lou.

Not all abuse and neglect falls under the umbrella of "beat up". :twocents:

What is the correct diagnosis here?
BCH forbade her parents from seeking a second opinion.
If they are so sure about their diagnosis, what would be the problem of having a second opinion?
And the treatment for supposed somatoform didn't seem to do her any good.

BCH didn't forbid her parents from seeking a second opinion, they prevented her parents from removing her from the hospital after they delivered her there in an ambulance. BCH WAS the second opinion.

I'm a layman, not a doctor. Doctors made the diagnosis and determined treatment. Unfortunately not all conditions respond to treatment.

If BCH were the second opinion, then they were different from the first.
In which case a third opinion was needed.
And the treatment plan BCH had for Justina specifically forbade her parents from seeking another opinion.

Yeah, I'm very curious about that psychologist too. Seeing a psychologist for 5 YEARS? How often ? Exactly? What exactly was she seen for?

Interesting that she has supposedly seen a psychologist all those years yet one of the hangers-on groups are the anti-psychology Scientologists and other assorted anti-psychiatry folks.

A third opinion was not necessary in the opinion of medical experts caring for Justina. Her parents could have accepted the treatment plan and we wouldn't be here discussing it. BCH can't be blamed for the poor choices made by the parents.

all, JMO

So if first I go to one doctor and he tells me one thing, then I go to another doctor and he tells me another thing-whose diagnosis am I supposed to accept without question?

As I just said in the post you were responding to, psychologist diagnosed her with low grade depression stemming from her physical issues.

of course and that is so unfair to Justina because it trivializes the fact that she is a very real human being, not just somebody's "cause."

It kinda reminds me of the early days of the Tea Party movement that quickly attracted anybody with an extreme agenda. We've got some elections coming up and I actually got a survey call asking for my opinion of Sarah Palin and Ted Cruz.

That's your decision to make because you are an adult. It is your body being poked, prodded and examined.

I would not subject my child to three rounds of medical testing, procedures and hospitalizations at three institutions just to find a diagnosis I agreed with.

So what is it you are going to do if your child has a complex medical problem? Just ignore it?
Some children need to be taken to multiple doctors to arrive to a correct diagnosis.
Not everybody is healthy or easily diagnosed.

I do exactly as every other normal parent does which has been to take my children to their pediatrician and let her coordinate whatever tests, specialist consultations are needed.
