Yes I agree. And we don't know if he lived his first 2 yrs. tied in a crib, or crying his eyes out for attention or what.
Please see my past thread about infant/toddler care in some orphanages. No touching, no cuddling, no holding etc.

or had a neglectful mom addicted to drugs or suffered her own mental illness.

Not teaching independence to your children is not giving them a fighting chance at life. All kids (he was 19 years old) should know how to cook, feed themselves, do basic laundry and prep a microwave snack. This is just plain bizarre.
An adult that cannot prep a snack is not an adult but obviously has a severe learning disability!

I was raised by grandma who did everything and never made me do anything. I can assure you I am not running around killing people.

This is from a great website by the University of Michigan. I have shared this with parents of children I worked with. It is a primer on developmental delays for parents.

Developmental Delay
What is developmental delay?
Developmental Delay is when your child does not reach their developmental milestones at the expected times. It is an ongoing major or minor delay in the process of development. If your child is temporarily lagging behind, that is not called developmental delay. Delay can occur in one or many areas—for example, gross or fine motor, language, social, or thinking skills.

Developmental Delay is most often a diagnosis made by a doctor based on strict guidelines. Usually, though, the parent is the first to notice that their child is not progressing at the same rate as other children the same age. If you think your child may be “slow,” or “seems behind,” talk with your child's doctor about it. In some cases, your pediatrician might pick up a delay during an office visit. It will probably take several visits and possibly a referral to a developmental specialist to be sure that the delay is not just a temporary lag. Your child's doctor may use a set of screening tools during regular well-child visits.

The first three years of a child's life are an amazing time of development...

...and what happens during those years stays with a child for a lifetime. That's why it's so important to watch for signs of delays in development, and to get help if you suspect problems. The sooner a delayed child gets early intervention, the better their progress will be. So, if you have concerns, act early.

What causes developmental delay?
Developmental delay can have many different causes, such as genetic causes (like Down syndrome), or complications of pregnancy and birth (like prematurity or infections). Often, however, the specific cause is unknown. Some causes can be easily reversed if caught early enough, such as hearing loss from chronic ear infections, or lead poisoning.

Thank you but what I was looking for are the **symptoms** of developmental delay. Why? So that we may garner what life was like living with N.C. on a day in, day out basis since he was diagnosed since age 4.

[h=1]After Parkland Shooting, A Florida Gun Owner Gives Up His AR-57[/h]
https://www.npr.org/2018/02/17/5868...ooting-a-florida-gun-owner-gives-up-his-ar-57

It's come after a lot of soul searching. Everybody always says - you know, it's the big argument right now - everybody's offering thoughts and prayers but nothing else. And I thought, well, this is something I can do that I think is right. And it's something I can do that might spark a change. You know, my whole goal was maybe to inspire one friend on my Facebook page to do the same thing. And maybe that friend would inspire one other person. And who knows? I totally didn't expect for this to go the way it did and as fast as it did.

That was nice of her but I bet she taught you how to do it. Otherwise, when did you learn to cook? or do laundry?
Teaching teen boys that they don't need to have chores, responsibilities and just collect guns is not proper parenting. She failed. She needed support so I sympathize with her but she was the adult/the parent.

She has never thaught me how to cook. She never worked so she believed household chores are her responsibilities. I learned it myself after I became an adult. One thing is not going to do is turn you into mass killer.

I don't know if its reasonable to not spend money on treatment as she was sick with flu/pneumonia, when one has nearly a million in assets.

I have a gut feeling that she was so worn out, beaten down in life that she may have lost her will to endure.

What was her life like every day? I bet it was unimaginable but she gave it the best she could. I think more will come out about her life and it will be very sad having to live amongst a deranged, unstable, and hostile son or sons.

That's what I said nor implied.

I agree she gave up.

One thing I want to point out, it doesn't seem adoptive mother wanted sons to have guns. She called police on NC numerous times. When did he buy his guns? Was mother still alive?

I can’t imagine having to look into his eyes everyday.

great question.

It may have been a matter of priorities and choosing which battles to fight. She had two sons who, it appears, were both disturbed. It was not a normal situation.

A link:

https://www.understood.org/en/learn...t-you-need-to-know-about-developmental-delays

This is about the developmental milestones that a child should be reaching between the ages of 2 and 3, ie the first year after Nikolas was adopted:

https://www.understood.org/en/learn...elopmental-milestones-for-typical-2-year-olds

So symptoms of delay would include things like not being able to throw a ball or catch it with both hands, group toys by size or colour, not being able to stack blocks or hold crayons with fingers instead of in a fist.

"In spite of the police reports and his mental health history, Cruz was able to pass a background check and buy the rifle in February 2017. In Florida, absent a felony or domestic abuse conviction, almost any adult can walk into a gun store and walk out the same day with an AR-15 rifle and a cache of ammunition after clearing a simple background check.

Cruz also managed to legally purchase at least five other guns in the past year, said a law enforcement official familiar with the investigation. They were recovered from the home where he was living with a friend’s family after the shootings."

Mom died this past November 2017

There were visible indications of troubles in their home. Three neighbors recalled seeing furniture on the curb to be hauled away every few months. The hutches and tables often looked like they had been kicked in or smashed up by someone.

Thank you for the link. It provides more chilling insights for what life was like in that household and how he tortured everyone and everything in his surroundings.

I think N.C. had a smorgasbord of concurrent diagnosis’s. And I would bet he was a Psychopath.......genetically created as such. Inherent.

So he bought the guns while mother was still alive. But it sounds like she had given up in the end of her life.

Could his mom have been afraid of NC once he acquired all the guns?? Surely she must have seen them in his room.
I'd be petrified being in that household w/ him, his brother and all those assault guns and knives.

Only answering a question as it relates to mental illness

Feb. 28, 2017, -- H.J. Res. 40, passed effectively ending the Social SecurityAdministration's requirement to enter the names of people who receive mental health benefits into the National Instant Criminal Background Check System. This is the database used by the FBI to determine who is able to purchase firearms.

If he stood to inherit $800,000 and it was in a trust with a monthly stipend, IMO, there is no way he’d have qualified for SSDI benefits based on mental health or anything else.
