<snipped for space> Cherish never stood a chance and it should not have taken her death to prevent her sisters from becoming victims too.

You are so right here. The only teeny, tiny glimmer of hope I take from this case is that her sisters are now safe. This still should not ever happen to any child, and my heart breaks for Cherish. I am however glad her sisters are now safe, as far as we've heard.

I also agree with the sentiment up-thread that if the Walmart card had been handed over it would've taken much longer to find her. Sick. The pervert probably could've had all of the kids for an extra couple of bucks. I hope Cherish's sisters live happy, healthy, and psycho-free lives from here on out.

It is heartbreaking to know that those two little girls will grow up not knowing the big sister that likely saved them from a lifetime of abuse and neglect. Will they be told how beautiful and loving she was or will they only hear about the girl that took off with a creepy, old man despite her momster having had "that talk" with her (it hurts to even type something so cruel and ridiculous)? It sickens me to look back at the ways RP has maligned her innocent daughter, even in death. Cherish's blood is on her hands just as it is DS's ...

on phone, hard to quote.... lawmakers try to close loopholes, mentions our lil darlings case.

I read that on Cherish's FB page. I think the assertion that these laws could have saved her life is likely wrong though. If it hadn't been that monster, that day it would have been another monster, another day. Perhaps it would have been one of her sisters instead but the fact is that Rayne's lack of parenting skills was bound to lead to tragedy for one or more of her children.

Meant to say, I think that closing these loopholes is wonderful and will likely save countless other children. I just feel that until CPS workers can and/or will act before tragedy occurs then mothers like Rayne will keep on putting their children at risk and allowing the worst to happen. It is great that the younger children have been removed from the home but that should have happened BEFORE Cherish was traded for nothing more than the promise of a gift card and a hamburger.

http://jacksonville.com/news/crime/...-sees-accused-killer-donald-james-smith-court

Donald James Smith, accused of the murder of Cherish Perrywinkle, had a pretrial hearing Wednesday that concluded in about a minute. Lawyers for both sides said they were continuing to work on depositions in the case, and the next pretrial was set for July 16 with a trial expected to occur in October.

But Wednesday’s hearing was notable for the appearance of Rayne Perrywinkle, who was led into the courtroom minutes before bailiffs escorted Smith in shackles. Perrywinkle appeared reluctant to look at Smith but glanced at him several times while Smith never looked at her.

One of the people who came into court with Perrywinkle was Diena Thompson, mother of 7-year-old Somer Thompson, who was abducted and murdered in Orange Park. Her killer, Jarred Harrell, was later sentenced to six life sentences in prison.
Thompson said she came to support Perrywinkle and let her know she would not be alone.
“Any mother who’s been through this needs support,” Thompson said. “I can’t even begin to describe what she must be going through.”
She said she plans to continue supporting Rayne Perrywinkle as the case comes closer to trial, Thompson said.

Really?

I guess I am glad Rayne is finding support somewhere because I have a real issue giving her mine. My POV on her actions does not allow me to give her that support. Sommer's mom lived a nightmare so I can never judge her decision. I assume she arrives at it because her POV is forever altered thanks to the scum who took her baby.

Seems to be a lot of discovery in this trial, can't wit til we get our hands on it all. I think it will be very illuminating.

I am positive the neighbors will provide some very eye opening testimony. (Think Shanyia Davis)

The Shanyia Davis case haunts me still, I think that case bothered me more than most of the others. I cant believe there are so many.

seeing that monster carry that baby into that motel made me want to be sick and I will never forget her father. Never! Same with Summer Thompsons mom Dena Never forget her either. these two parents stole my heart and made me feel their pain.

sorry for the rant!

Well, was I surprised tonight to see you-know-who in a preview for a current affair show here in Oz tonight.

Preview headlines said "Some people should never be parents (RP) .. that's my mother and it makes me feel sick (eldest daughter here in Oz) ... the mum of four who dumped one child and gave another to a predator ... now, her family's fight to rescue the youngest daughters."

I'll try to watch it and see if it says anything new.

Tonight on ACA
Mother or Monster? She dumped one child and gave another to a predator. Now, the race to rescue her youngest daughters.

"Defies belief .. mum let daughter get into van with predator and never saw her again."

Then they recapped what happened that night, and went over the arrest/court stuff.

It said Rayne abandoned daughter L about 20 years ago, when L was 5. She bought herself a one-way ticket to the US. L remembers being relieved that her mother left .. always uneasy around her .. never bonded.

L has no doubt that if her mother kept her, she would have been the first Cherish. (L very teary .. filled with regret for Cherish).

RP’s sister agreed.

Before Cherish was murdered, Cherish begged maternal grandmother to let her come and live with her in Australia. Grandmother thinks Cherish wasn’t acting ‘loved up’ to her … she thinks something was going on.

Eldest daughter L wants to adopt two little sisters .. save them from their mother. L, RP’s sister and RP’s mum will do everything in their power to get the girls here.

Rayne fighting to get kids back. The authorities are trying to place children in foster care.

Rayne will be in court this Friday to see if the children will be returned to her. L will be flying over to see if she can get custody.

(From A Current Affair tonight, Ch 9. I will post a link if one shows up a bit later. Sometimes they put one up after it has aired in every time zone.)

Thank you SA! I just know you yelled at the tele for me when RP was on :blushing:

 Ohhhhh yes ... I did!

Made me sick to see her face again (all the old what-a-wonderful-mother-I-am stuff).

Her daughter, sister and mother all look, sound and seem very normal! And none of them seem to expect anything good from Rayne ... ever.

ETA: The Current Affair episode is now up (June 18th show)... here are a couple of different links to it. I know sometimes others have problems opening some of our TV links.

BBM, That concerns me so much. Surely there is no chance she's getting the girls back, right? That is such a terrifying thought.

I'm glad that Rayne's oldest daughter is speaking up for Cherish & her little sisters and out against Rayne. The truth needs to be told.

From the Jacksonville Florida news today, Rayne's oldest daughter is trying to petition the state for custody of her surviving half-sisters. More at this link:

so frustrating.

there are days I would like to take to the streets and march on DCFS offices across the nation, burning torches in hand.
