Interesting. I wonder where he was flying off to.

'His body was found in Ft. Lauderdale on May 26, 1984 — Memorial Day weekend. He is listed on NamUs as just a number: Unidentified Person / NamUs #UP1254. According to NamUs, he was “found floating in the Intercoastal [sic] Waterway” and all parts of his body were recovered. The estimated “post-mortem interval” — the amount of time that has elapsed since a death — was only one day. The John Doe had light brown hair, brown eyes, and no facial hair. He was wearing a tan bathing suit.'

'He was believed to be about 20 years old, 5’9” tall, and 160 lbs. with brown hair and brown eyes. The Broward Medical Examiner’s Office determined the cause of death to be a drowning and noted there were “no signs of foul play.”

''Pearn has been working to understand more about the details in the Pegasus tattoo. “There was a program in Alaska that’s called Spartan Pegasus,” Pearn told Dateline. She thinks that could be a connection for identifying “Paratrooper” John Doe.
Spartan Pegasus is an airborne operation in coordination with several military branches. ''

40 years have passed and this young man remains unidentified.

Age estimates and the military type Army Jump wings tattoo seem to point to an active duty soldier. If this was the case, he would be listed as a "deserter" on a list maintained by the Army - since he would have been noted as Absent With Out Leave (AWOL) at some point, and at the 30 day mark declared a Deserter (adminisratevly).

If he had been given a discharge by the Army, his record would have been closed out and archived at the National Military Personnel Records Center (NMPRC) in St. Louis, MO.

The Army Jump School probably has a photo and his name in their record of graduates for years preceding his death.

Why couldn't he be Larry Goodman. Believed to be headed to Miami for the superbowl in 79 with a supposed collect call to his dad in 83. According to his brother, he was obsessed with anything WW2.
Interesting. If I may, where is the info about the collect call in 1983 and the WWII obsession? I didn't see that in the Charley write-up.

I keep attaching the link and it doesn't show up after posting. Here's a different one:

Thanks for attaching that article. I am not on any social media (not even Facebook ;) ) so I wouldn't have been able to see the info otherwise.
A few thoughts which, of course, are strictly my opinion:
Mr. Goodman is described as 6'-6'1" and 180 lbs whereas our UID here is 5'6" -5'10" and 162 lbs. It's a fairly wide range but even at the top end it's still 2-3 inches shorter than Mr. Goodman.
As far as the collect call goes, I am pretty skeptical that it was legitimate. Unfortunately, I have heard so many stories of families of missing persons in the 70's, 80's and 90's who received prank or crank calls like this. Which is utterly disgusting. The fact that there was "screaming" in the background leads me to believe that that is what this was. Some piece of garbage read an article about the disappearance and found the dad's number and made the call in my humble opinion.
Now, having said that, the sketch is unbelievably similar to Mr. Goodman's appearance. Also, he was last known to be headed to South Florida. The estimated age falls within range as well.
All in all.....it surely could be him.
The height is what sort of leads me away. I just think it's too big a discrepancy.

I agree with you about height and weight but my understanding is the family relationships were strained so that very may be a guess. I also looked up what bayside in Ft. Lauderdale was like in the 80s and have found that it was known as the party strip back then.
