GUILTY FL - Janiya Thomas, 11, Bradenton, Jan 2015

I was being utterly facetious and thinking about the mom who killed Stoney and her brother and hid them in the freezer. I so wish it was not the case here and now wonder if the other case motivated Janiya's mom :(

I'll never forget Stoni and her brother Stephen Berry. They were tortured by their psycho sick mother. It was one of the most horrific child abuse case I ever followed and want to forget.

"She could not always tell when she had to go to the bathroom," Racky said. "That's one of the reasons the mother was frustrated with the child and kept the child in the bathroom at her residence. That medical condition is the same one that killed Janiya's father."

That's heartbreaking.

As a parent, your first instinct -- it's not even conscious thought but the most basic instinct around -- is to protect and save your kids, mama bear-style. If a child is vulnerable, that instinct is even stronger. I don't, I just cannot, understand this.

I hope her siblings are able to find peace and healing. I hope her mother and anyone else involved rot.

I have a 13 year old son who does not use the toilet.
It becomes frustrating. The clean up, blech.

Yet I have always managed. Sometimes it's barely managed and there have been clothes I simply discard.
I assume Janiya has had medical care of some sort.
Pediatricians with whom I have worked have a genuine concern for the resiliency of myself, my son and the family as a whole. I am heartbroken this little gals Mom didn't know how to ask for help. Sounds like there was even family near by.
Hoping for a brighter future for the other kiddos in the family.

This woman can kiss the world behind because all the evidence of what she did to Janiya will be contained in that coffin freezer. An upright freezer.........wonder if it was plugged in at all.

Well this certainly wasn't the news I wanted to hear this morning :( That poor girl. And the 12 yr old? What did the mother do to him when he showed up at her job at WalMart that caused the police and CPS to be concerned? Clearly it was enough that someone took it upon themselves to call the police. THANK YOU to whoever that was, for not looking the other way, as so many do. It was that 1 call that exposed this whole sordid nightmare.

I just hope Janiya's siblings all get the counselling they're going to need to get through this.

In the above linked video of the press conference Lt. Racky describes a chest freezer about 4'x5' that the top opens up and answers a question that "yes it was on".

Body found in freezer believed to be Janiya Thomas

Police said the girl's aunt and grandmother made the discovery after seeing that she was missing. The girl's mother, Keishanna Thomas, had brought the freezer over to the house on Wednesday with another man, who police have yet to identify.
....
Prior to the discovery, Thomas was under investigation by Child Protective Services regarding a claim of child abuse by one of the children.

After investigating, case workers from the Department of Children and Families came to Thomas' home last week to take her five children into their custody, but Janiya was not there and they say Thomas refused to offer an explanation.
....
Neighbors of the Villages of Cortez, which is a gated apartment complex, say they haven't seen the little girl in weeks, even months.

Myself and many friends of mine have gi issues from anxiety and depression and other disorders. My heart is breaking for poor Janiya. Even if she had a condition where she could not control it, I am sure the stress of trying to ' not have accidents' brought on by her mom made it 100x worse.

"At that point they looked in it, saw what they thought was a body and called us," Racky said.

What they THOUGHT was a body? That makes me wonder the condition. I have a feeling it wasn't plugged in for some time. :(

ETA - Just saw a post above that the freezer was on. I am honestly a bit surprised.

Wonder why this woman didn't buy depends for her daughter to wear? or some kind of pull ups? If father did die from this condition, why no medical help?
So much can be done now medically with medications that was not available years ago.

maybe Janiya was wrapped up? and they could only guess there was a body in the freezer?

Or dismembered. :(

i have stopped saying "who does that?" there is always someone....

I'd say no one could be that cruel... But I'd be lying ...

Since joining websleuths I no longer say

" can it get any worse"

Racky said police believe they know who the man is and are currently looking for him, though they are unsure of his relationship with Keishanna Thomas.

"We should be able to talk to him today," Racky said.

[...]

Racky said he has no idea why it took over a year to get authorities involved in this case.

"Nobody told us until Friday night," Racky said. "Her mother pulled her out of school because of her medical condition ... and said she was home-schooling her in 2013."

From your link:

Keishanna Thomas is being held in the Manatee County jail on contempt of court charges after she refused to divulge her daughter's location to a judge. Racky said they have not told her about finding a body in the freezer yet, but she has continued to refuse to cooperate with police.
