what a mess. I understand her feelings but shes really got to focus on loving Kamiyah more than she hates Gloria.

It's getting hard for me to keep understanding Shanara, but I still feel for her deeply. It would seem more logical to me to give Kamiyah (I guess she changed her name back?) some space in this, however hard it would be. It would be okay for Shanara to tell Kamiyah that she's having trouble dealing with the situation, and in order to protect herself she needs to do such and such for herself (like asking K to not speak of Gloria in front of her, or whatever), while at the same time assuring K that she (S) loves her and doesn't blame her for not immediately shifting away from the person she thought all her life was her mom. I'm so glad Gloria got a hefty prison sentence. She caused this mess. I hope Shanara has or will get some help to deal with this all. It's all just heart breaking.

I totally agree. I don’t think it’s unfair to ask K to not discuss Gloria w her. But to also reassure her she wants to rebuild her bond w her.

I know, and this is just a dreadful thing to say: 'Everybody was saying I sold the baby, I gave the baby away,' she said. 'Come on now, if I thought it was going to be this hard, I could have got an abortion.

I mean, I can't even begin to imagine how the poor woman feels, she's spent years thinking her daughter was alive somewhere and dreaming of the reunion. Kamiyah seems to have managed to build a good relationship with bio-dad so it's tragic it's not the same with mum. A horrible, hideous mess. My sympathies with them all but Shanara MUST find another way of venting all this.

I feel just horrible for Shanara. It's easier for the bio dad because there was no "father" in the picture throughout Kamiyah's life so there isn't that same conflict. Shanara has to compete with the woman who kidnapped her child & destroyed a large part of her life... and that child sides with the kidnapper.

I get how Kamiyah must feel torn, but still. The entire thing is just awful. I wish the dad would do more to try to unify mom and daughter.

I agree, I wish some therapist would contact her and offer to work w her (Shanara) and Kamiyah as well! I think maybe the dad doesn't get involved because he isn't with Shanara anymore and doesn't think its his place, but it would be nice if he did try. maybe he has.... who knows.

I read it exactly like that at first too, then due to something she said further down, I think she may have meant that if she was just going to sell or give the baby away, she would have just had an abortion.

I'm sure there is another dad-who-raised-her. Hang on I'll google.

On Mother’s Day 2017, four months after Mobley learned her daughter was alive, her daughter sent two Mother’s Days cards to a Duval County jail where Williams was being held pending the outcome of her case. She didn't send one to Mobley.
Same thing this year. No card. No call. Not even a text message.
Mobley has now blocked her daughter from contacting her by cell phone. "I don’t deal with disrespect,” she said through tears. “I wish they never would have found her.”

I hope both Shanara and Kamiyah can eventually find good, patient and private counseling (no more TV counseling, please!) to start the healing they both need from all of this. This must also be a huge amount of emotions for Shanara's other children to try and sort through, too.

She might feel like she's not understood, so I can see her wanting to show her story. And the proceeds might help with paying for therapy and college and generally making the financial part of her life a little easier. The rest of it is far from easy for her, it's one less headache. Hopefully the movie producers will work closely with her and treat her experience with respect.
