Sentencing nears for Neptune Beach teen in grandmother's death
Posted Oct 21, 2019 at 4:58 PM
A Duval County Circuit judge will hear more testimony, then decide the sentence for a Neptune Beach teen who pleaded guilty to the second-degree murder of his grandmother in 2017.
A Tuesday hearing is the next-to-last step in the court case against a Neptune Beach teen who killed his grandmother in late November 2017, then buried her in the backyard, according to court records.
Logan Tyler Mott, 17, pleaded guilty Sept. 18 to second-degree murder and returned to court last week for the sentencing testimony phase in the shooting and stabbing death of 53-year-old Kristina June French.
As part of his plea agreement, Mott faces a 15- to 40-year sentence, the State Attorney’s Office said. Duval County Circuit Court Judge Bruce Anderson Jr. will soon decide what the final prison time will be after hearing testimony that included a police detective, the teen’s parents and his former school nurse.
[...]
The defense has a single witness left, a psychologist who evaluated Mott, but it is unknown when that testimony will occur. A brief status hearing is set Tuesday morning so prosecutors, defense attorneys and the judge will schedule more testimony and closing arguments. Then the judge will pronounce the sentence at a later date.
