This is an older article (no new news that I can find), but it appears as though Children/Family Protective Services is failing another one of LB's children. After grandma was awarded custody, it was determined that:

"No more visits by case workers are scheduled."

http://www.news4jax.com/news/lonna-barton-scheduled-in-court-for-custody-hearing

Let's all pray for that helpless little girl, who no longer has an advocate OR any second/third parties checking up on her. :banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::

Lauramore will have custody until the girl is 18. Bowen also ordered that Chris and Lonna Barton can have phone contact with their daughter, but any type of visit will be supervised and must be approved by the child’s therapist.

“A judge doesn't have time to review the details of this case every time it comes in front of him, so by having a therapist there who sees the child on a regular basis, the judge can have informed information on what this child needs and what's in the best interest of the child, because at the end of the day the primary issue at the core is what is in the child's best interest,” Friday said.

Maybe not oversight by a case worker but regular visits with a therapist are a good thing, they are mandated reporters so at least some objective outsider will have a view in on her going forward.

At least that is how I am choosing to look at this. Does not good to be fired up so I am looking for that half full glass here ya know?

Is it required that the sister continue seeing her therapist? I hope grandma continues to take her as she gets older and starts to understand even more of this tragedy.

Tycia, I do agree that it solves nothing to be pessimistic and frustrated. Unfortunately I have sat and watched this case unfold in an identical manner to so many others who have slipped through the cracks. For crying out loud, if the Judge admits that he doesn't have time to fully research the case, I seriously doubt that anyone has time to follow up with the alternative after-care assigned to this child. Further, for the sake of the child, imagine if the assigned therapist wasn't white? Grandma is not going to follow through with treatment. The sad fact of this matter is that aside from an outside intervention, this little girl is being denied the justice that she deserves. She has already seen too much, and will spend her lifetime coping with that. Let's face another fact here (respectfully)- It's NO SECRET that LBB was an active drug addict at the time of her child's death. There is no possible way that grandma, who had admittedly seen LBB and the children shortly before Lonzie's disappearance, was not aware of this drug addiction. She sat idly by and watched those innocent children be repeatedly returned to LBB's care, knowing that. She made a choice to not intervene, and that choice contributed to the DEATH of a baby. She is now the primary caregiver of the older sister. This is where my concern lies. Thanks for the dialogue, Tycia, you do make a good point, and I will continue to hope for the best for big sis, but I will also be hoping for an outside intervention to save her life as well. Thanks for all that you guys do as mods to facilitate respectful discussion here.

This case had no shortage of persons who IMO directly harmed or neglectfully allowed harm to come to Lonzie Barton. People of both races. By focusing on race are we not a part of the problem? Does it change what happened? Does it change the outcome for Lonzie or his sister? I understand the dissatisfaction with the placement of sissy with grandma. I have misgivings myself. But the ruling was what it was. All that is left is to honor Lonzie's memory and pray his sister has a good life, receives good care and lots of love.

The thanks button just isn't enough for this post, tlcya!

Your closing words (RBBM), especially touched my ... It behooves us all to do just that: honor Little Lonzie's memory the best way we can. That is something we can control, and what better way than to do so as positively as we can? Here at WS, our thoughts proliferate, and they will remain for the little girl left behind.

I think about that a lot, and it is the filter that keeps me from saying the first thing that comes to mind. I consider that one day she will be old enough to read here :( She (along with all children) didn't get to choose her family, in the same way she didn't ask to be born. What she deserves, IMVHO, is all the unconditional love and support in the world. I also believe she should be the conduit for the same love and support her precious brother never received, nor will he get to experience. :rose:

There's a whole lot of support out there, and yes, much of it from total strangers who have come to know this family because of the media coverage of the case. The tragic circumstances of what happened can't be changed. What we can change is how we move forward, and pay it forward from here.

I want nothing more than for her to have the best possible life. So I will keep sending prayers up for her, in the hopes that she will never have any harm come upon her. :please: The world is watching, and I absolutely believe He is watching. And if anyone deserves to be happy and healthy, it's her!

Lonna, the gift that keeps on giving. She really makes my blood boil.

Lonna Barton's fake pregnancy a legal strategy, recordings suggest

http://www.firstcoastnews.com/news/...a-legal-strategy-recordings-suggest/154674955

Oh my my my!!

Barton carried on the fiction in her letters, pointedly reminding Ebron that they are “plus one.” After learning he’s been implicating her in conversations with police, she warns, “We need to stick together Ruben. I’m doing everything you said. You hold up your end.” She adds, “I don’t want to have our baby in prison.”
...
Barton did some reading in jail – she mentions a Joel O’Steen book and the Bible (she quotes the Book of Ruth to Ebron: “where thou diest, will I die … if aught but death part thee and me”) – and considered writing. “I plan to write a book of my life mainly because I want the world to one day know my true feelings and my story.”

She also wrote out lyrics to songs by Journey (Don’t Stop Believin’), Blink 182 (“I Miss You”) and Ed Sheeran (“Thinking Out Loud”). She even wrote her own verse: “How long will they send us away,” one reads in part. “God knows I hope not to [sic] long for our babies will all be grown.”

In conversations with her cellmate, though, Lonna seemed to think she would ultimately get off. “I think I’ll get out of it anyway,” she notes. “It’s such a petty charge.”

“We need to stick together Ruben. I’m doing everything you said. You hold up your end.”

That seals it for me. Any doubt about Lonna's involvement in Lonzie's murder is erased by that statement. Disgusting. And she thinks she's gonna write an autobiography? Yeah, right - hey Lonna, how about giving Dr. Phil a call? :silly:

“Our life can only get better. This is a minor setback for a major comeback," she wrote in one letter to Ruben Ebron, who was convicted of manslaughter in her son Lonzie's death.

Lonzie's murder was a "minor setback." OMG. I wonder what Chris thinks of all this?

since her conviction wasn't violent, she most likely will go to more of a drug offender based prison (if FL system is anything like CA) either way she wont be popular. she def wont be with the featherwoods due to A. history w RE and B. involvement in the death of her blue eyed baby boy. female inmates aren't as political as the males and the gang car isn't as strong, but female inmates don't like a baby killer. most of these women are away from their own babies. probably circumstances provide they weren't stellar mothers, but also most didn't get convicted for intentionally harming their children.

Ruben's letter. I copied it exactly but I inserted blank lines between paragraphs to make it more legible. I also noted any edits, which I inserted in "[ ]" brackets and colored blue.

First I'd like to thank you for taking the time to write me. And in responding to your questions or comments I'd first like to clarify what you said about what happened [short word scratched out] and after me being released, that being "A distant haunting memory." That's far from the truth. Witnessing Lonzie die, was by far the worst experience of my life. Haunting - yes. But I doubt it will ever leave the forefront of my mind [a word scratched out and "mind" is written above it]. Everytime I see my kids, I think of Lonzie. Everytime I see a baby period - Arin (Lonzie) is who I'm thinking about. I'm pretty sure with time, it will get easier, but for now it's still painful & hard to deal with.

You also asked what's next? I'm not sure. My mind is constantly spinning but just trying to take one day at a time right now. I guess I'm adjusting to prison ok for now. Like I told my dad, this is far from "Cheers", but everybody knows my name. When someone calls my name I stare & wonder where I know them from or if I even know them at all. [scratched out word] Inmates and officers have asked lots of questions & also said what they think took place. Of course Lonna & I both know what's up & have remained quiet for obvious reasons, but somethings [sic] are better left un-said... at least for now. I did tell police that they were wasting their time trying to track my GPS, but they did not believe me. My GPS never put me south of Greenland Rd. - your question of why did it happen..."the after," I can't answer. What I can say is that, contrary to [three words scratched out] what the prosecutor said in open court on Feb. 5, Arin was given CPR, he started breathing again, had a seizure, then rapidly went downhill... I continued CPR, this time to no avail. [bottom of page 1, back --> is written on the right]

And when it comes to my relationship with Lonna - yes, I still love her. We have talked a few times since the beginning of January after Lonna got jealous of Jessica - the mother of my three kids - in late Dec. for allegedly coming to visit me, which did not happen, she told me then, "We can end this ****[WS auto edit - he wrote the whole word] right now, if you want?!" I didn't hear from her for the next 2 weeks, until they announced that she was going to testify at my trial. Testifying only to the alleged drug activity. Nothing else. But right after all that happen [sic], Lonna passed word through her cousin & said she was sorry & [scratched out word] still loves me & wants to make things work. At the time, all I could do was laugh & tell her cousin Tiff that Lonna is crazy, but surprisingly I wasn't mad. We have wrote each other, some letters getting through, some letters being confiscated. My 2 months in Baker Co. detention center was when I saw Lonna a few times a week. Officers didn't know what to think when they would escort me to rec & Lonna would see me I always get excited. And in court on Mar. 22, Lonna blowing me kisses & telling me that she loves me. [short word scratched out and "So" written above] So this is not the time for bitterness & grudges. I refuse to do my time like that. She is the one person I want to see & talk to more than anyone. I miss all my family & friends, but I miss Lonna and our [bolded and twice underlined] kids more than anything. My family can point fingers at Lonna & her family can point fingers at me - it's childish... that's not going to change a thing. Me & Lonna are adults & both covered for each other. Our families were naive & clueless. Write back anytime.

Best,
Ruben

Compare Ruben's letter to the reporter with his written letter to the court on February 5:

Judge Borello, thank you for allowing me to make this statement.

I would like to apologize to William and Wanda Ebron, my parents, and Debra and Lonzie Lauramore, Lonna's parents. You raised us better than this, you did no wrong, yet this has affected you so much and for that I am sorry. None of you deserved the public scrutiny that this brought.

I know our two families will forever be tied together and not in the way we had hoped for. Nobody dreams that this will ever happen to them or knows exactly how they would react if it does any parent want to believe ourselves...but it happened and both Lonna and I were both involved. This was a tragic accident made far worse by our horrible decision making. All we can do now is pay for the mistakes we have made and hopefully learn from them.

To Jessica; my children ... I know you all have been through far too much because of our actions and I am sorry. I regret not being able to be the partner, father, and friend you deserved.

I hope my efforts over the past four weeks and this plea today provide some measure of closure to everyone involved, including the Jacksonville and Macclenny communities.

And I apologize most of all to Lonzie Arin Ray Barton- we failed to provide you the care you needed and I failed to protect you from the harm of others. I have and will continue to ask for forgiveness for what I did and for what I failed to do. You were so young and you experienced far too much in your short life. You've touched so many lives but were taken from us too soon. Baby man, may you finally rest in peace.

Sincerely,
William Ruben Ebron, Jr.

Wow, MsM! The "thanks button" is woefully inadequate to express my gratitude for your efforts!
