I don't know, I thought maybe they routinely make some announcement that can be heard outside at the end of the school day, like The school doors will be closing in 5 minutes, or All students have now left the building, or whatever. Like a store that makes loudspeaker announcements at closing time. But I don't know.
That's kind of what I thought, a general announcement so what time would that be at? was she late? Did Jenn just wait in her vehicle for Maddi, and when she heard that no one was left in the school she left too? She didn't run inside and say "Wait my daughter didn't come out, she must be here somewhere?"

No. According to Court TV's Vinnie P. he said two different clips they were showing, thought he said another officer. I said that because I wasn't catching the trackable statement on the one clip I had seen.

I thought SS was showing that person how to do something on their phone. They were looking at a phone... weren't they? Thought SS was acting like the phone know-it-all. I'll have to watch it again. SS injected himself in strange ways when the officer was asking questions. Maddie had dirty blond hair, no scars on her entire body, confirming her last name talking over Jen about how much Maddie weighted. What a fool.
from these clips, SS never had his own phone out. in fact, JS hands him her phone when a 'vibrated' call came in. it appears one of the individuals sitting down (blue shirt) was going through Madeline's phone. why would someone other than JS be holding her phone...the officer asks for it. and then it appears he returns it to SS while outside. sounds to me the officer said 'here's her phone'.

if someone else has a take on this, I might be misinterpreting the exchange inside when the officer asked for the phone and when it was handed back to SS outside (while SS points out BS locations as to Madeline's route toward the school).

Just a guess:

Phone call: I'm here to pick up, Maddie, but she hasn't come out.

School: I'll use the P.A. "Maddie, if you're in the building, your ride/mom is waiting for you". (That person may not have had info that Maddie hadn't even been in school that day, so just a courtesy announcement. Assuming Maddie was lollygagging.)

Why JS didn't go in, I'll never understand that!

JMO
well that would make the most sense, I thought at first it was an announcement for maddi to come to the office, but then I realized she didnt go in, I guess she could have called the school, especially if she knew Maddi didn't have a cell. ( and she likely had maddis cell with her , which is also weird). Just all of this is so unusual.

I noticed in one of the body cam videos what looks to be the outline of his phone in his pocket. Early in the video. MOO

I saw the officer hand the phone back to SS but I didn't know whose phone it was, I assumed it was his ? BUT wouldn't that be interesting if SS brought maddi's phone to Jenn? Maybe it was Maddie's phone that the cop handed back to him, the next day she said the cops had maddis phone now so?

Did Jenn try maddis cell after school ? SS heard it ring, he would call Jenn back to say , Madi left her phone here and hes the one who brought it AFTER he found out she was missing. doubtful, Instead, he said I tidied up " and thats when we got the call"
is it odd that jenn had maddis phone before she knew Maddi was missing?

fishy, someone make it make sense.

I could hear SS say church....it seems like he was showing a map. the person seems to be a young individual, not one of the adults (face blurred out). and...it wasnt HIS phone. not one adult in that room interacted with him or JS. other than the shout outs about the laptop, instagram. he never took his phone out and it looks like it is in his front pants pocket.

"I went to pick her up from school today, and she never came out, They announced it over the speaker and I'm just like maybe she walked here because sometimes she'll walk here to this office, came here... nothing..., so I went back to the school, they were closed, I got an email from the school saying she was absent, but I also messaged her teacher and he looked at her entire attendance today and saw that she was completely not at school today either, so she never made it. "
What kind of announcement would the school have made?
and what did it have to do with Maddi?
announcement? she did not speak to anyone inside of the school so how could they announce anything at the time she came for pickup. she didnt see her, she left and went to her mother's business. she did not call 911 yet, well, technically, she never made any of the calls. its baffling why she didnt go inside the school when the crowd thinned out, since it was unusual for Madeline to not be ready for pickup.

bingo, so why did she even say it. Seems she may have picked up a few tricks from SS. about how shape a story/ to convince people of things with the little add ons

I wonder if Jenn tried maddis cell, if not, that might be telling. I guess its possible she noticed she left it behind and just brought it with her but that would be unusual, IMO
She wasn't even home when SS called her to profusely apologize for missing the pick-up.
This is the crazy-making game.

Over 1000 kids go to this middle school. They would not just make an announcement, looking for a child if she didn’t show to the line. Based on teaching in similar schools. They may have made an announcement that stated all children have been released.

Something that bothered me too is why she didn’t search bathrooms.
I could see a girl getting her period with a mess and barricading herself into a stall morified. No phone and she could sit there crying. Mom didn’t know at that time she didnt show to school . I would assume my kid was somewhere on campus before leaving. ETA, if she had an unexpected period on the way to school I could see her not showing to first period and sitting there all day. Stranger things have happened!!

Also it’s a 16 minute walk to the grandmother’s office, wouldn’t js see ms on the sidewalk hypothetically?

ETA: it’s problematic to me that she didn’t try to enter the school. Was she frantically calling her at that point? When did she realize she left the phone behind?
This is the clue of the involvement to me, her actions with the school and the phone.

all we know from JS's 2 media interviews, SHE EMAILED one of Madeline's teachers who responded via email that she wasnt in school all day. she never said she called the school. in the other interview she says she spoke to the principal (which we hear she got the call on the newly released bodycam) and says in her media interview, the principal offered all of their resources to her, were checking cameras. IMO, they would have checked her school issued laptop as part of their assistance.

100% agree, she didnt call the school. or go in.

It's also weird to me, how JS says "Sometimes MS walks here", meaning grandmother's office.

I mean, this is a developmentally normal thing for a 13 year-old to DO, but in the context of the picture JS and SS and even grandmother have painted of MS, it stands out to me. MS is so afraid of everything, doesn't know her address, doesn't know where her friends live, can't sleep alone, but "some days" she just randomly sets off for grandmother's work? Without telling anyone?

That seems about as likely to me as her wanting to be dropped off extremely early to "hang out" and walk to school.

Which is it?

I would expect everyone really to be a lot more frantic about MS being missing in the bodycam video, given she has been described by the adults in her life as pretty dependent/young for her age. They should all KNOW she wasn't hanging out with friends or off at a mall or riding around in cars with older kids or any of the numerous possibilities a 13 year-old COULD possibly be up to.

Regarding the announcement. I’m pretty sure it would have gone like this:

The other parents and students are gone but Jen is still there waiting. There are going to be teachers outside monitoring pick up. If Jen is the only one left one of them will say “who are you here for?” She says Madeline Soto. The teacher on duty likely has like a walkie talkie thing and can just tell the office “Madeline Soto’s mom is here to pick her up”. Then the office just goes “Madeline Soto, please report to the pickup area” over the PA.

They don’t check the attendance first because obviously her mom thinks she’s there at school. They assume she’s being a slowpoke, not that she’s missing. (And as someone with ADHD, I can say maybe she tended to be a slowpoke or get distracted). The teachers on pickup duty make sure all the kids have left and then report an “all clear” before they can be off the clock for the day.

After the announcement and still no Maddie and probably an “all clear” message from the inside of the school, Jen knows she isn’t there and goes to the next spot she thinks she might be.

One other thing: in the media interview, I could have sworn SS and/or JS told the reporters they had "checked places MS could have been, including some comic stores" and things like that. IF this searching happened, I would think it took place before the body cam video ?

So....again, really weirdly mixed signals and information in general (lies?),IMO from the adults.

Remember, SS was so out of his mind that entire evening.... @@

This makes sense, especially if JS had the same casual sort of response she has with LE in the body cam video. She may have even said something like "Well, maybe she walked to my mom's office. See ya...."

If she had grabbed Maddies phone, then went to the school and it was then that she realized she was missing;
Then, yes. This is odd. If her leaving her phone all of the time at home was so normal..? I just dont understand why she would grab it for her, as if Maddie truly needed her phone during the ___(x amt of time) drive home.
