A gun was recovered at the restaurant. Police are interviewing a person about what they know about the gun.

Tampa Police Chief Brian Dugan said in a news conference that he is “optimistic” the incident is connected to the recent murders in Seminole Heights.
“We have recovered other firearms before, so we will see,” Dugan said.
“We’re going to go through this. We’re in it for the long haul. Let’s see where this leads.”
Dugan said police believe the person with the firearm was driving that car.

Can someone recap the info for those of us who aren’t able to watch press conference at work right now 

A lot of "we've been down this road before" comments, so don't get your hopes up. May possibly be related, they can't say anything for sure right now. In regards the POI: "They've been taken in for questioning."

Yea I guess I am going to stay cautiously optimistic like the police chief.

It sounds like a tip was called in about the person which prompted LE to arrive and find him and the gun. The fact that the Seminole incidents was even mentioned in possible relation to this is very interesting though.

I hope the original tip that was called in doesnt turn out to be a false tip just to get back at someone. Im hoping it was a legitimate tip with the person believing the person really could be the seminole area killer.

It will be awhile now before LE is able to do balistics on the gun and compare it to whatever was found at the scene of the shootings. If they ended up getting shell casings at the other killing scenes then it should be fairly easy to tell if the gun was used in the shootings. I have heard they can do that sort of balistics check in a couple hours or less if they have casings to match against.

If they have no casings then they will likely have to try to match the projectile markings against slugs pulled from the bodies. That is a much tougher comparison to do because of the usual deformity of the lead slugs upon impact with human bones and tissue.

Whoa...just saw this. I hope this is it !

Wonder what was in the bag....and who is the employee that this person would tell him to wait till he's "on the plane and gone"

Summary from interview with witness from McDonalds:

POI was in the McDonald’s, dropped off a bag to an employee and said “don’t report anything until I am on the plane and gone”. POI left then scene and then returned before someone called to notify police.

Kudos to the news crews for trying to do their best to get interviews with bystanders and witnesses. It is a little humerous to listen to the witness and then listen to the news person trying to restate what was said.

It is just like the game telephone we played in grade school and how the story changes with each person relaying the heresay. LOL

But good job to the news crews for being there and trying to get the scoop. I would have liked to heard from the first gentleman that was cutoff by the other female. I think he was actually inside when it all went down.

Agreed. Especially nice to have the walk around of the area, get a sense of the traffic, layout, and all. Great sense of the inside the place as LE did their thing, from the mom who was there. Their approach seemed cool, calm, collected and precise. LE would have to rule out the whole thing being a set up for attention too. Remember in the Chelsea Bruck case there were false reports that were catered to fit and took some time to rule out. I hope not, but you never know.

Yes FindHG, I agree. LE did a really good job in keeping things as calm as they did. It could have easily turned into more chaos if LE had not acted so cool and collected.

Im impressed how quick the police chief got there on the scene. I really like this police chief. I think their community has a good police chief.

If it isn't the suspect, he does a real good job of looking like him from all the three closest angles I could compare to the screen shots. And he does look caught and not indignant, then that jacket he had on, the sleeves, the buttons or clips, similar style to some of the shots. The curve of his face from his jaw, chin and lips, dead on to the some of the shots, best I can tell, cheek bone too. And the ear too. But you know sometimes if you say a word over and over again it starts sounding strange and loses its meaning, it's the same with these images too, after a while, you lose perspective on them.

TAMPA — An Ybor City McDonald’s employee left work Tuesday afternoon to go to an Amscot but first handed a gun to a manager, a coworker said.

When the employee returned, Tampa police were waiting. They took him to headquarters to ask about the gun and were soon proclaiming optimism about the ongoing hunt for the Seminole Heights serial killer.

"We have the person down at headquarters and we are talking to them now," Police Chief Brian Dugan said at a hastily called news conference. "They are not under arrest and they are not in custody."

But, he added, "Yes, I believe this has to do with Seminole Heights."

Officers blocked off a red Ford Mustang, with the license plate AJB ---, parked near the McDonald’s.

Hillsborough County court records show that two people have had traffic tickets while driving that vehicle: H D, and H E D, 24.
GR, who has worked at the McDonald’s for four years, said the employee police took in for questioning is in his 20s, was driving the red car, possibly his father’s car. He has worked at the restaurant for just four months.

R said this man walked into the restaurant wearing his McDonald’s uniform and gave the manager a loaded 9mm handgun and asked him to hold it for him. Then the man walked to Amscot to get a payday loan, R said. She does not know if he was working that day.

The manager didn’t know what to do with the gun. R said she huddled with the manager and said she told him to alert an officer inside the restaurant. A female officer was sitting there doing paperwork

A pretty good summary of the events in the news video at this link below

Turns out the person worked there recently and an employee had noticed he looked like the killer for awhile now and was odd.

Not sure why this person would hand the manager the gun when he could have just went to his car to put it there. Its a really strange series of events.

A quick search tells you this person was a graduate of St. Johns University and was involved in athletic events including working for St. John U athletics and the New York Mets.

Was working at a medical academy in Tampa from Jan-May 2017.

Interesting. St Johns University is in New York City and lots of new yorkers end up moving to Florida.

Even though there is nothing confirmed yet by LE about the person there are a couple things that seem to tie in closely to what a lot of us thought about the Seminole killer. His young age and a tie to some athletic experience seems to match so far.

I am really hoping LE is able to provide us an update soon. The good news is they have the gun so even if the person decides to not speak further then LE may still be able to match him up by gun balistics analysis.

And like someone said they should be serving a search warrant soon at his house to see if they can find the exact clothes he may have been seen wearing on the video.

Waiting patiently for further updates from LE.
