“The Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) of Florida has dropped a records request it had filed with the St. Lucie County sheriff’s office following a meeting with St. Lucie County Sheriff Ken Mascara on Saturday.

CAIR sought information regarding the Sheriff’s Office security detail assignments after the Sheriff’s Office had denied a request by the Fort Pierce Islamic Center for extra protection following alleged threats to the center.”

Its so much better when the involved parties just sit down and talk, imo.

This is kind of interesting, although I am not sure the FBI was accurate about why he was washing. It could have just been regular prayer time ritual. Or, he could have suffered from some obsessive compulsive disorder.

Chief Mina asking for Department of Justice inquiry into Pulse shooting

Orlando Sentinel

http://www.orlandosentinel.com/news...e-shooting-mina-interview-20160708-story.html

“Chief John Mina has asked the U.S. Department of Justice to assess the Orlando Police Department's response to the Pulse nightclub shooting.

In an interview with the Sentinel on Friday, Mina said he made the decision after talking with other chiefs around the nation who said it's important to have an outside agency look into the response.

One of the questions that will be part of the Justice Department review: When did the gunman stop shooting inside the club?

The FBI and Orlando police have maintained the gunman stopped shooting at 2:18 a.m. But some survivors and dispatch reports from other police agencies indicate that shots were heard up to 16 minutes later.

“ORLANDO, Fla. - One month after the Pulse massacre, Orlando Fire Chief Roderick Williams is reflecting how the horrific event changed his department.”

*

“Williams said that one of his firefighters sprung into action, not only as a public servant, but as a father. The firefighter received a call from his daughter, who was inside Pulse during the shooting.

"She was hysterical, like you can imagine. He finally got her to calm down, enough to where she could tell him where she was. He got dressed, jumped in his uniform and came down to the scene," said Williams. The firefighter's daughter was not injured in the shooting.

Williams said his firefighter began to help treat the wounded, something that makes him especially proud of his staff.

"I'm proud. I think that's what it's all about. Service," said Williams.”

“ORLANDO, Fla. - Pulse nightclub shooting survivor Norman Casiano, 26, is trying to get used to his new normal.

"I can't sleep unless my legs are in an arched position because of the nerve," he said.

The Gay and Lesbian Community Center donated a hospital bed to make him more comfortable at home, and right now he uses a walker to help him get around.

"It feels like it's been a year, not a month, and it's been a whirlwind of different emotions and feelings," he told News 6's Louis Bolden.

Casiano was shot twice at Pulse nightclub. One bullet fractured his pelvis the other his tailbone

One month after the shooting, he says going out in public is still difficult, especially if it's loud and there is a crowd like there was that night.

"So I guess that's just like a trigger," he said. "And my brain automatically freezes and it's like, 'Oh my God, Oh my God, Oh my God,' and my chest gets really tight," he said.

“People have donated more than $17 million to the One Orlando fund, but not a dime of that money has made it to the victims yet, and it won't for months.”

“Tuesday marks 30 days since the final death toll was confirmed by Mayor Buddy Dyer that Sunday afternoon - 49 lives silenced.

“Honestly, we knew it was much more than 20 before that (press briefing), but we didn’t want to put out an inaccurate number," Mina said. "We knew people would be shocked by that and devastated.”

During an exclusive interview with News 6, Mina admitted his toughest decision was “authorizing the explosive breach into the club” and that, to this day, he has not entered the Pulse.

“I didn’t want the images of that crime scene to cloud my judgment," Mina said.

Still he said he will be entering the building “within the week.”

The FBI investigated the Orlando mass shooter for 10 months — and found nothing. Here's why
The Los Angeles Times

http://www.latimes.com/nation/la-na-fbi-investigation-mateen-20160712-snap-story.html

“The veteran FBI agent and a local sheriff’s deputy took no chances when they got a credible tip about a potential terrorist.

In a joint operation, they ran his name through a maze of federal criminal and terrorism databases and scrutinized his telephone records for suspicious contacts.

Without a warrant, they couldn’t read his emails or listen to his calls. But they watched him from unmarked vehicles to track his daily routine and to see whom he met.

They deployed two confidential informants more than a dozen times to secretly record his conversations. They interviewed him twice and convinced him to provide a written statement — in which he admitted he previously had lied to agents.”

*

“Today, one of an agent’s first investigative steps is to check a suspect’s social media, especially in light of the Islamic State’s aggressive recruitment efforts on Facebook, Twitter and other digital networks and apps.

In Mateen’s case, it wouldn’t have changed the outcome. The post-shooting review determined his social media accounts contained no ties to terrorist groups.

He did not post radical statements until the night of the shooting, and then just to a group of friends, not the public, according to a second FBI official, who also spoke on condition of anonymity to describe the investigation.”

This is a very interesting article. Lots to learn and ponder.

This is a sad state of affairs. Keep your eye on The Daily Mail or whover else might have the first photos inside the nightclub.

“Kevin Greene, a friend of the Pomas, who own Pulse, was visibly angry.

“You can’t have that. I’ll make sure that no one gets into that building," said Greene, who was at the club as workers were repairing the lock on the front door.

Greene told News 6 reporter Mike Holfeld that the door was kicked in. Greene said he thinks someone in the media was behind it.“

Weeks after Pulse rampage, medical examiner faces his trauma

ORLANDO (AP) — “The flashback hit nearly three weeks after Joshua Stephany and his staff carried dozens of bodies in bags out of the Pulse nightclub in Orlando.

The Orange County chief medical examiner thought he was ready to return to normal life, to socialize, to have dinner in public for the first time since the June 12 rampage that left 49 victims and the shooter dead. But when he met his friends, the restaurant's lights and sounds brought back images of the carnage at Pulse — traumatic scenes even for a man who constantly works around death.

"When you see people drinking at a bar, you get a flashback ... you know the scene where there's drinks on the bar, a tip jar, there's receipts, there's hors d'oeuvres, food," he said. "And then ... take all those people away."

Stephany, 41, and his staff are still coming to terms with the work they did that night. Stephany walked into a nightclub where drinks were still on the bar, tabs unpaid. But the walls were pockmarked by bullet holes and the floor littered with bodies.”

Just so very very sad, to me.

This is interesting:

Mateen admitted to the informants that he had claimed terrorist ties at work. But he said he had been joking, trying to scare co-workers who had bullied him for being a Muslim.
