Even more details of the fraud case coming out. I wish we could get our hands on the full affidavit.

Man’s insurance fraud scheme led investigators to Celebration home where family was found slain, court records say

The joint investigation by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of Inspector General and the FBI found Todt raked in more than $130,000 from fraudulent bills he sent to insurers, including Medicaid, Cigna and Anthem Blue Cross Clue Shield, according to the affidavit.
...
The fraudulent billings were recorded as early as 2015, through mid-2019.

The affidavit also found that, from January 2015 to June 2018, "Todt and Family Physical Therapy have taken loans or advances from over 20 commercial lenders to fund their business,” the warrant said.

The affidavit said Todt borrowed from commercial investors that provide short-term loans or advances to borrowers in need of immediate cash, against the accounts receivable of the borrower’s business. The lenders then obtain automated payments from the borrower’s bank.

In the month of August 2017 alone, Todt’s LLC transferred more than $99,000 in repayments to eight such companies, including Quick Fix Capital and On Deck Capital, agents found.
...
Agents said they asked Todt to contact an attorney and then reach back out to them. The following day, Nov. 22, Todt said he was working on getting an attorney, and told agents he would return to Connecticut Dec. 8.

“When the agents did not hear back from Todt or an attorney in November, they contacted him again on Dec. 4," the affidavit said. "During this conversation, Todt again maintained that he was in the process of retaining an attorney and that he was scheduled to meet with the attorney the following week in Connecticut.”
...
Employees at Family Physical Therapy told investigators later in December that their paychecks started to bounce and eventually they stopped being paid completely, the affidavit said. Federal agents did not hear from Todt the rest of the month so, on Jan. 7, they contacted one of his relatives.

“This relative stated that she too was having a hard time maintaining contact with Todt and that she was worried about him because he was not communicating with her or his family as he usually would," the affidavit said.

She had become so concerned that she contacted the Osceola Sheriff’s Office Dec. 29 for a welfare check. Deputies “reported that they could not locate Todt and that the house he was thought to be living in was boarded up," the affidavit said.

Family members also told federal agents they were “all very concerned about Todt’s state of mind.”

Is it possible that Megan knew about the fraud and debt and was trying to leave him? Maybe the car was packed because she was trying to leave with a the kids on the 15th instead of going on a vacation like the neighbors assumed. Based on his Facebook where he seemed to really adore his wife and family, could he have been fueled by a jealous rage if she tried to leave? Like everything was just shattering and that was the last straw? Just a thought I had.
Interesting thought. Could very well be....but not sure we will ever know.

Interesting how this whole thing played out IMO

who can predict this? It happens over and over and all we seem to be able to do is incarcerate the killers and here in FL - put them to death IMO
I’m so sick of this waste of beautiful potential

Seriously. It's awful. I hate these cases. Beautiful families that deserved to live and some coward decides slaughtering them is the solution to his issues?

I've read in one of the articles from that time that he overheard it. He was very young (around 4-5 IIRC).

WOW! So this is different than the False Claims Act investigation, I think.

It is - from the article in the quote below this:

This is an EXCELLENT article. He folded immediately in this case according to the affidavit. I hope he does the same in this case.

I think the Powell comparison is spot on. I'm almost scared about what we're going to find out about the home-life of those kiddos.

I still think he knew the walls were closing in and killed them all before they could know anything. According to the Health Fraud affidavit, he knew this arrest was coming, he had to know the eviction was coming, and the debt was crippling.

So he causes all the problems and decides to kill his innocent family, instead of himself. How does that solve anything? It's just evil.

It seems to follow the classic family annihilator pattern though of shame and narcissism. I don;t know what these buffoons think is going to happen next though.

That's what I don't understand. Your immediate family is gone, but you are still here with this legacy. Evil is the only explanation. The whole world will know you by this act. Unless he saw his father walk free and thought he could somehow get away with this?

So, professionally I've seen a company be bled dry by the types of loans that he took out on his business. They're essentially payday loans for businesses with ALL the implications of that characterization. But, I still don't understand why he wouldn't just declare bankruptcy once this was all over. Adding murder to the mix just isn't rational.

I’m thinking he was in the house with decomposing bodies for quite some time and it absorbs into your skin? No power to shower ? It was cut off IIRC

That's what I thought and then deleted. He had opportunities to shower after being arrested. I wonder how long it takes to wash off. Surely he had to shower? Jmo

"Why couldn't he have just asked me for a divorce?"

The ever-present question in these case.
BBM
Unfortunately, it boils down to $$. A divorce can cost a LOT of money..... alimony, child support and lawyers. If these losers kill their spouses and get away with it, they have it all. They will risk their own freedom not to lose a cent of "their" money. Very sick people. And the sickest of all will kill their children too :(

I'm a teacher, and I live about 20 miles from Celebration. I pay $2,200 a month. It's a lot for us. But we get by. I can't imagine that a guy who owns his own physical therapy business would struggle to pay $4,000 in rent. But I know there's more to his finances. And that's exactly what I'm interested in.

Why did he need all of these loans? What was he doing with his money? I am guessing that he had been living a double life. First, he moved his family away from Connecticut despite continuing to run, apparently, multiple clinics there. That seems to suggest a need to put some distance between two lives.

I suspect that he was siphoning cash out of his business and personal finances to fund living expenses for a girlfriend in Connecticut.

Another possibility is that he was an addicted gambler. It said that he took trips. I wonder if he was going to casinos. Gamblers have been known to dig themselves deeper holes by trying to win themselves out of debt.

It's painful to know that a family was hurting so close by. Obviously, I would have sacrificed all of our Christmas spending to help out a family in crisis. In fact, I've talked in the past about how we don't really need anything and should spend our money to help people who are more needy. I almost did it this year, but I thought my kids would protest. It turns out that I didn't spend much on them but got some things they like, and they were very happy. So I think I'm going to give it a shot next year. I just need to find a way to identify a family in need.

It's sad that so many people are secretive about their financial problems. Everyone deals with something. One bright spot in this whole thing is when I read that the sheriff said that there's help out there for people who are struggling with life. That message can't be sent loud enough.

Maybe if Tony Todt's confession is full of self-serving lies, the manner and cause of deaths will shed more light on his mindset.

I wonder if he possibly had life insurance policies on Megan and/or the children and was caught before he could figure out how to capitalize on them without incriminating himself? Just a passing thought.

On the money subject...many years ago I lived near Colchester in Norwich for about a year. There are two VERY large casinos in that area; Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods. It is possible that he was gambling when he was home. We still don't know exactly where he stayed when he traveled back to the area (I've heard some rumors, but nothing in MSM yet).

It's usually drugs, sex, or gambling that cause major financial issues. I think you hit the nail on the head. Jmo

It is a yucky thought that’s for sure but that’s probably what it was.
If the power to the house was shut off then the hot water heater probably wouldn’t kick on if he tried to take a warm shower.

Compare that to the treatment that Kelsey Berreth's killer got? I couldn't believe it. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that the Sheriff personally called each reporter to be there, LOL!

Possibly!

I'm wondering just how many hours a week he really worked? Was he angry at his wife for deciding to leave the business, relocate to Florida and spend her time homeschooling their children?
I think so.
However, I don't think she would have done all that if she really knew what was going on with the business.
With all the phony income from his fake billings, she must have thought that they were financially okay, and that he was working his butt of for their family.
When nothing could be further from the truth.
I'm just not going to be happy to hear how he killed them.
I am guessing similar to Chris Watts.
